Diet/Exercise/Health/Wellness Support Thread

Finished 90 minutes of vinyasa yoga today (warm room), which felt great since it was 42 degrees when I left the house at 7:30 this am.

4 miles in the gym today. My right calf was so so tight and was really hurting. Not a cramp but shooting pain. I had to decrease speed to get comfortable and finish. Icing now.

My fitness goals are to have daily workouts to decrease weight, triglycerides and glucose levels.

sabaray- I take short steps and try not to have my chin on my chest. It is easy to be looking down at your feet and you can really constrict your air flow. You don’t want to look at the top of the hill, either, but maybe about 10 yards ahead. I think effort level is important. Clearly, you will breathe harder than on flat/downhill, but you don’t want to have to stop at the top to gasp for air, as iDad would say.

Got my 3 miles in & made it to work on time. It’s going to be tough to get those morning runs in until time changes.

@bromfield - warm yoga on a cold morning - sounds wonderful!

Stumbled on another interesting article about cues that assist in making behavioral changes to prevent over eating.

Arg! I don’t see where working people are going to find that much time. It’s all I can do to get 30 minutes in, daily :frowning:

The key is to add high intensity interval training to your routine. The studies cited in the report were based on 30 minutes a day of moderate activity. 150 minutes a week would be 30 minutes 5X week. Instead of increasing your time commitment, stick with 30 minutes a day if that’s all the time you have but incorporate progressive high intensity interval training during that 30 minutes. Better yet, do cardio like that 3x/wk and circuit weight training 2x/wk for 30 minutes each. The circuit training will give you the benefit of resistance training to maintain or grow lean muscle mass and because its done as a circuit, will also raise your heart rate for the 30 minutes if done correctly…

Gotta love October days when the thermometer reaches near 70! Was a nice wife and cut the grass for my H - so a little less than an hour pushing the lawnmower and then a 3 mile run afterwards. Earned my shower tonight!!!

It was 84 when I ran after work! Last week it was rainy and gloomy. I think the weather for my Saturday half should be ok.

My daughter had such an incredible day today. I can’t help but slip into proud daddy mode and this is the most appreciative audience I can think of …

Damn, the site glitched and blew out my entire post!!! I had posted about her day today where she had her Lululemon photoshoot and also organized, staged and ran a major spinning event in the city in partnership with Comcast and Be Well Philly (the fitness division of Philadelphia Magazine) that was held outdoors on the plaza of the Comcast Building, that she had conceived of and pitched to Be Well Philly. Oh well, technology!

Be proud! That is awesome!

Wow, that’s tremendous Michael! You must be very proud of your daughter!

Kudos to your D, MNK!

18 holes of golf, walking, yesterday. Started out on the cold side, but warmed up nicely in the sun. Trees on the course are starting to turn – gotta love fall in New England! This was our final Ladies Day of the season – I won $25.00 for one of the various season-long competitions. All prizes are given as credits in the Pro Shop – I earned enough over the summer to get an electronic golf gadget I’ve been lusting after.

So cool MK!!! Seeing our kids succeed even beats our own successes!

Michael, that’s terrific! How exciting. CBB, congrats on a good season!

Easy 5k this morning by myself; too tired to tackle the hill. My Oiselle shorts finally arrived yesterday - I got the distance shorts, which I like, and the long Roga, which I do not care for as much. I think I’m firmly in the Lululemon camp.

Did my 55 minutes this morning and then some foam rolling.

How awesome Michael! Sounds like she has a great career! Congrats!

sabaray- I never tried the long Roga, but I’m glad to hear your feedback. I always thought the longer legs looked like an afterthought!

MNK, awesome! I gave your post a “like” even before you got all of the details out. “Knowing” your D from your posts, I knew you had good reasons to be proud!

Sabaray, thanks for the shorts feedback! I liked the Flyte tank a lot. It is stretchy, airy, and the orange is perfect for the “pumpkin days” of October. It rains today, so the waterproof tank might come handy - if Mr. changes his flight and comes home at a reasonable time; otherwise, I will be fishing him out of the airport at 9 pm!

Whew! Long workout today. 8.5 miles on recumbent bike, 2 miles on dreadmill and weight machines. Heading to the shower to get rid of the wet plastered hair and dripping shirt.

Looking forward to making a vegetarian black bean and sweet potato chili in the crockpot for dinner! Yum!
