Took my car in for an oil change and walked another mile while it was being serviced. Glad I made it back before the rain started!
The kale recipe I have been making once or twice a week is a saute. My son who normally does not like raw kale asked for second helpings of this tonight!
Tear, wash and massage a bunch of kale.
In a non stick skillet, melt 1-2 T butter or butter/olive oil mixture. Add 1/2 sliced white onion and cook till almost carmelized. Cut a raw sweet potato (with skin) into 1/2 inch slices and then half or quarter those. Add to onion. Brown. Throw in the kale. Saute. When the kale has cooked down some (cooked, not killed!) add a splash of balsemic vinegar. Toss. Sprinkle mixture with 1 tsp. brown sugar. Toss for one minute, then serve!!!
Also good to take just one slice of chopped raw bacon and brown that at the beginning. Sub a little of that bacon fat for the butter. Add the bacon back in when you add the kale.
I can eat buckets of this!

Seriously, what does this mean?
Conquered the hills again - with my two heavy totes… I used to carry the weight of these totes on my body - unimaginable!
Abasket, I like your kale meal idea. The prof today mentioned cake in one of his hypothetical examples… I have never, ever wanted a slice of chocolate cake so badly! Now, after reading your kale recipe, I crave it! Thank you for curing my cake cravings.
My girls are coming home tonight and I will be grilling chicken shawarma - and probably making the kale again!
Massaging kale. I too thought the same thing when I heard it - what?! But you know, kale can be “tough” - that’s why I’m not always a fan of raw kale. I take the kale off the stalk, lightly rinse it, tear it in a large bowl and then just…massage it - almost like kneading bread dough - somehow it “softens” it up. It makes a difference!

My legs are so sore. I had a workout with my trainer yesterday and also did a 6.2 mile run. I think the combination of the leg presses and the accumulation of a lot of miles of running lately is what has me so sore. Today will be a rest day for sure, although I’ll get plenty of walking in. Tomorrow’s long run is a shorter one, the plan calls for 14 miles. I had been thinking about increasing it to 16 or so, but now with being so sore I will probably just stick to 14.
BunsenBurner-I liked that article, but I’m still thinking about those little mice running 11 km per day on a running wheel. That’s a lot of running for a little mouse!
abasket-your meals always sound wonderful. I would like to live at your house.
MOWC-good luck with your half tomorrow!
Gorgeous sunrise going on right now in San Diego. I’m enjoying it from the breakfast table, but I wish I was out running with it this am! Sadly, it will be 99 degrees later.
Just ran 4+ miles. I’ll be doing a ton of walking (in NYC) over the next 4 days, so that’ll be my exercise.
Good luck, fireandrain. Hope your walking will be productive.
Have fun in NYC! Your hill work sounds tough, Bunsen!
I wish I could run up those hills, MOfWC! But I am becoming pretty good at speedwalking and hauling 20 lb worth of tablets and printed material up and down them!
Good luck tomorrow! Have a fun race.
@abasket Here’s another great kale recipe:

I’m going to try your recipe this weekend.
Two mile walk today–it was too much for the new puppy. I ended up carrying her for the last mile, which was fine because she’s 6 pounds (kind of like a weight).
Looks delicous Bromfield - everything tastes better with Gorgonzola!
Thanks for the recipe @abasket. Good luck to all of the runners competing this fall.
Time to get out there & beat the heat. The sun’s not up yet & it’s in the 70’s. Hoping for 7 miles but I don’t think my hips will stand for that.
I finally had a great run this morning! Low 50s when we started, little breezy, but a bit over 7 easy miles. Pace was nothing to write home about, but a good run with good friends. Can’t beat that.
Good for you sabaray! I did my 7 miles, but walked some of the 5th, and most of the 7th. Still, feeling good! I’m doing a 10k in 2 weeks, so I think I’ll let myself take it a little easier until then.
Nice job, Gertrude! Nothing wrong with walk breaks. Let your body tell you what it feels like!
The floodgates up in the skies finally opened!! It has been pouring relentlessly.
the forecast says it will get better tomorrow, so fingers crossed.
2:07 plus for age group win in the half marathon! I really pushed it and didn’t look at my splits or HR. I saw a couple of them accidentally, but really had no idea how I was doing. It felt hard and I really did as well as I could have. It was 58-60 and humid. I wore a short sleeved tech shirt over my Nuu-Muu dress and got too hot by mile 5 so I had the shirt around my neck. I finally put it in the back pocket of the Nuu-Muu. I was glad to finish! My daughter blew up at about mile 7 and did not make her goal of a sub 2 PR, but ran 2:03 for a very solid time. I was racing a woman for about 7 miles who I thought might be in my age group (you hate to ask in case they are 10 years younger or something) but I finally got away from her. Did I mention that this felt hard? I’m happy with the time, since I ran 2:15 in June (much harder course then and hotter) and haven’t run 2:07 since 2013. I’ll take it!
The shirts are not pretty. They are black and very boring.
We went to Waffle House for breakfast afterwards.
