<:-P Party time!!! Congrats, MOfWC! Awesome place and awesome time!

Great job, MoWC! Congrats! sabaray and Gertrude, your 7 good miles are encouraging me to rise from the desk…My husband and I set out for a walk this afternoon, but a cloud burst–downpour–cut our outing short. We shall try again soon. I did the 3.1 mile run and upper body weight work yesterday at the gym. It was warm and humid, even inside, so it was kind of joyless. I listened to a Fresh Air podcast (author interview) and watched the New Zealand scenery on the treadmill, but still felt like a chore.

Good job, sabaray and Gertrude.

I’m enjoying following the Ironman World Championships (Kona) from home this year and glad not to have a horse in the race. Disappointed that Rinny (3 time women’s champ) had to drop out of the bike with a sore back. She was hit by a car while training this week in Kona (on her bike). She thought she was OK and the bike was OK, but apparently it took a toll. I feel so badly for her, although she wasn’t favored to win this year.

Good job, everyone! No running for me today unless I decide to give my treadmill a workout. It is pouring cats and dogs and every other creature imaginable. This rain and wind mean no steak for dinner either. :frowning: But there is always Sunday!

Congrats on your win MoWC!

Ate a large piece of freshly baked khachapuri for dinner… Sigh. It was heavenly. To rid my body of the unwanted calories, I need to run a full marathon tomorrow!

I actually know what that is, BB. You made it or where did you get it?

A local Euro deli place where I get my rye bread apparently sells them every Saturday. Note to self: never go there on a Saturday.

That’s a great time MoWC!

I made it through 5 miles on a hotel treadmill. I didn’t want to run in the dark in unknown territory.

Thanks, blankmind. In 2009 I ran 1:54 on that course, which shows you how aging has taken a toll, but I’m happy with it!

3.2 miles today on tired (but not very sore- may get worse) legs for a 35 1/2 mile week.

I learned something yesterday. At about 10 miles I was running near a group of runners (one of whom I knew) and she was coaching another runner by saying “strong to the end, strong to the end.” This is sort of important because at 10 miles of a half marathon (and 11 and 12) all you want is to slow down and not hurt anymore. I listened to this and fought to keep my pace and push through to the finish line. With chip timing you really don’t know how you are doing in your age group, but according to the results I was 3rd at what they call the half (mat was actually at 6 1/4), 2nd at what they call the turnaround (mat was a little after 9 but it was a loop add-on) and the person was actually 2 minutes ahead of me at both those mat check points. This was a different runner from the one running near me who I wound up beating by 5 minutes. I wound up winning the age group by about 2 minutes, which means I gained 4 minutes on the next person in the last 4 miles. That’s pretty unusual and I’m glad I kept pushing.

I hope the treadmill was decent, blankmind. Was the ceiling low? I hate that!

Ran my 8 miles, which was not the happiest run, unfortunately, because my right leg started cramping up badly around mile 6. So I hobbled the last two miles to finish the run in slightly under 1 hr 5 min. Gorgeous weather definitely helped - colorful leaves, blue skies, light wind, and plenty of sunshine. The air felt refreshing, crisp, and delicious, like freshly pressed apple cider!

I wore my orange Oiselle tank and chose the red Brooks with silver logo accents. The spotted CW-X tights perfectly tied my wardrobe pieces into one smashing ensemble. Lol.

Very stylish! Hope your leg is ok!

I hope it is just a mild sprain. Damn hamstring.

Helped Mr. B fill the yard waste can with some branches and weeds. Did free weights and decided to soak my leg in a warm Epsom salt bath. Somehow, the rest of my body ended up in the tub, too! Mr. brought me a glass of wine… I think the muscle is doing better after this therapeutic intervention.

MOWC, congratulations on your great race results! The comment made to you really resonated with me. On the 4th day of my Habitat for Humanity Ride this past June, I was toast. A crispy critter. Fried. The amount of hills we had done the previous 3 days had just wiped me. Every roller on day 4 just destroyed my ability to keep the pace with the group I was with. I came very close to dropping back to a slower group. One of my lady racer friends was riding with me and said “Stop thinking about your weaknesses, stop thinking about your pain. Instead think about your strengths and how you can capitalize on them to get through the tough spots. Strategize from strength, not from your weakness.” She was right. I was able to complete the ride with my group. I may have fallen off the wheel of the rider in front of me on a roller but I would find the way to get back on on the downhill or the flat that followed. Interesting lesson in the psychology of performance.

That’s good, Michael. We need to keep battling back- in sports and in life.

MNK, it is absolutely true that a large chunk of our performance is mental! If during my runs I set a goal to reach a certain marker by a certain time, as soon as I make this goal, I begin to set a new goal; otherwise, my body decides that it did what it was asked to do and tries to slack off.

Congrats to all the miles completed this weekend in a race or just for your own leisure!

Special congrats to MOWC for the win! That had to feel great! My S and his fiance are in Nashville for the weekend and loving your town.

D1 brought D2 home for the weekend and fall break. Lots of fun with both of them weekend - including some light exercise. D2 is still home (yeah!) till Tuesday afternoon when I drive her back to school - but I did take some time out this evening to log a few miles myself - to combat all the delicious food we ate this weekend!

Hiked 11k+/day in Shenandoah National Park over the past five days! The leaves went from green to spectacular between Wednesday and Friday. We did several short hikes a day. I’m in better shape than DH, who didn’t want to do anything over two miles, so the 3-4 milers I had planned didn’t happen. Wish he had been more involved in the planning instead of leaving it to me and then not liking what I had in mind!

I’m hoping this gives me the kick in the pants I need to get serious about the exercise side of things again.

Did aerobic wattage base ride indoors on Saturday. Have one more to do in order to finish this phase of my indoor wattage training and move on to the next. Did 50 mile outdoor ride today. The weather was glorious!

Am well into phase 2 of the Parallettes training. It is incredibly core intensive to have the strength to hold shoulder stands, L-Sits and swinging into set up positions for those moves. Gotta feeling it’s going to be a very tough phase.
