@CountingDown, you were in my neck of the woods! I wish I’d known! If you come this way again, let me know. I’ll hike with you!

7 slow and painful miles this am; hard to get going, but they’re done. Beautiful morning, cool and crisp.

I had a busy weekend and wasn’t online, so there are so many terrific posts to catch up on! It sounds as if everyone is doing really well! Saturday was a 16.6 mile run and it went really well. Our daughter flew home to be a bridesmaid in a friend’s wedding - it was a beautiful fall day and I was glad to have earned those calories from the run because the food was fabulous at the reception! Tonight will be a 5 mile run.

MOWC-congrats on the age group win and the great time! Really interesting info about the times versus your runner-up. I think the mental aspect of distance running is really interesting.

abasket-I’m glad you enjoyed the fun times with your daughters at home! Nothing beats having the kids come home!

BunsenBurner-I hope your leg is doing better, your hilly walk will let you know for sure.

sabaray-I’m glad you had a good run with good friends. That sounds wonderful.

CountingDown-your hiking sounds gorgeous! Do you think your husband is motivated to try to get in better shape to be able to hike further in the future?

Thanks, all. C3Baker- sounds like a good weekend all the way around.

3 miles this morning for Day 100 of the current SS (stupid streak). It is staying dark later in the mornings and hard to get out there, but I did. Legs are tired from the race but I’m not sore, which is surprising. My daughter is really sore. I wonder if my Hokas make the difference there?

We were talking this weekend about how it’s time to change the “after work” exercise routine due to the earlier darkness. I don’t like doing dinner early so the new routine will probably include a light snack after work, and then exercise and pup exercise before dark, THEN hole out inside after 7ish to make a light dinner.

Happy Monday everyone

abasket, how fun to have both of your D’s home for a weekend. We’ll be waiting until Christmas to have our nest fully populated again :frowning:

CountingDown, your hike through the colorful Shenandoah NP sounds gorgeous and something my husband and I would enjoy. I can see a hint of yellow in the bald cypress leaves, but so far that’s all the fall color here.

Hope the pain eases up, sabaray. Nice mileage, C3B and lucky you too for getting a daughter visit! Glad you could keep up the streak after the race this weekend and that there’s no pain, MoWC.

We had friends visiting so last night I cooked up a salmon, caesar salad, little golden potatoes, roasted butternut squash, and a yummy onion herb bread. I’m blaming the last item for pushing me to the too full feeling. I ran 4.1 outside this morning to compensate. Beautiful though at 70 degrees.

BB how’s your leg(s) today???

70 degrees probably feels great to you PlantMom! I think I would tire of the heat all the time! (but, do dread the cold!)

Thanks for asking, abasket! It got sore again by the time I went to bed, but is getting better. Some weird, freak muscle tear, I suspect, so I will be taking it easy for the next couple of days. Otherwise, I am in good spirits - the sun is out, and the leaves are gorgeous.

Loved reading about everyone’s weekends!

I hope it heals up soon!

Thanks, MOfWC!

Finished the last pieces of khachapuri for breakfast today. In case you were wondering what it is…

I noticed a ton of eggplant recipes on that site! Yummm…

That looks absolutely amazing. And I was doing so well on my low carb intake. There has to be some holiday I can prepare and serve that for, guilt free. It doesn’t look terribly complicated to prepare, either. Please someone, find a holiday for me!

BB, I hope the muscle heals quickly! I looked up this khachapuri of which you posted the other day. It looks so good, to say the least–worth a few extra workouts

I just saw a posting about some admirable women practicing what idad would call geezer fitness. I hope I can be as flexible as the 97 yo yoga instructor, or able to climb Kilimanjaro at 85yo, or more practically, just to get regular exercise at age 93!

That looks SO good. I love bread and cheese- what a perfect combination. I’m going to send the recipe to my daughter.

3.5 miles on the dreadmill and weight machines for back and chest. No calf pain! Yay!
Making sweet Italian turkey sausage, sweet peppers and onions in tomato sauce over spaghetti squash for dinner. Comfort food as the temps went from a sunny 82 yesterday to a gray mid 50’s and windy today. Kind of a depressing day .

sabaray - in my household, that holiday is Thanksgiving. Anything goes that day, including mashed potatoes &gravy, the mac & cheese made with bacon, gruyere & heavy whipping cream, and my daughter’s chocolate mousse cake.

I’m coming to your house, Gertrude! My family will have to fend for themselves this year. I’ll bring Bunsen’s bread!

Perfect - I will line up a half-marathon we can run the next day to burn some of it off!

I’m running a 5k this weekend. Had a short run on the schedule today and it was awful, just awful.

I don’t think I’m coming down with anything but there is a front coming through and I am not feeling great, with a monster headache. I also didn’t sleep well last night and was the nocturnal wonderer.

Hoping it’s just a bump in the road and everything goes well on Saturday. Does anyone else get nervous about a stupid 5k. I’m going to run it with my D so I don’t want to disappoint her. Cuz I’m old and slow.

Deb, lack of sleep will do that to you! So fingers crossed it was just a temporary, one time thing.

I always get nervous before races. I know that I will not win any medals, but still get anxious about not letting myself down. Try to get your mind off the racing a bit - a “carboload” dinner the night prior helps ease the mind! Of course, no need to load up on any carbs for just a 5k (or even a marathon!), but getting together with your fellow team or supporters and having a slow meal does help to ease the internal tension. I am sure your D is simply happy that her mom is able to run, no matter how fast or slow.

Not only do I get nervous, I really think I have some sort of mental illness with respect to racing. I’ve mentioned this before here. Even if I don’t care at ALL about my time (which I generally don’t anymore), I feel like I’m going into major surgery at the very thought of the race the entire week before. I am thrilled at the end, and do mainly OK during, but it’s always a challenge to even get myself to the starting line. I think it is because I race really hard and I know it will hurt! “Nervous” does not even begin to describe my insanity!

I wish DH would care about exercise, but he hasn’t done it in the almost 32 years we’ve been married, and if his diabetes and my cardiac arrest didn’t scare the $#&@ out of him into getting more active, nothing will. I’m resigned at this point. He’s an adult and he doesn’t want to change.
