Nobody is going to get between me and my leftovers!!! (unless I’m going back to a hotel with no refrigeration!)

PlantMom, that sounds like a LOVELY place to run! For me it matters so much to have new/favorite places to take a run. I can do it anywhere - make any place work - but to do it in a favorite or new pretty spot - priceless!

Congratulations on your daughter’s new job sabaray. Hope the negotiations went smoothly.

Michael, right now I am thinking she didn’t ask for enough money, but it’s a substantial raise and a very good opportunity with a growing company. I think she was afraid of pricing herself out of the job, but I’m glad she listened and asked for what she was worth. I just want her to be happy and her current position was, shall we say, interfering with that.

Sounds like everyone has been having great workouts! Congrats, abasket, on your 5k pacing! PlantMom, I am envious! My neighborhood isn’t nearly that exciting.

My headlamp is a Black Diamond Revolt. It is rechargeable and is 90 lumens max. 66meters and the tilt is adjustable. It is high end, according to engineer H.

Our nomadic kid is here for a couple of days before she goes back to finish her studies, so my exercise plans are shot until the weekend. I don’t mind!

Lifting weights might make you brainier:

75 degrees on October 21st? No complaining here! Really had to take advantage of the warmer weather to do some yard work tonight - did that, washed my car and got a short run in. The weather was the type that dreams are made of!!!

I have been super busy and so not online for a few days - wow, so many posts to catch up on! Our son’s wedding was wonderful! The whole weekend was so much fun. The actual wedding ceremony itself was beautiful - the minister did an amazing job. The reception was a blast - those guys really know how to throw a party! Anyway, after the Sunday evening wedding we drove home on Monday then first thing Tuesday morning I was on a plane headed here to Shanghai. Busy times! I have managed to stay on track with my training plan - got a 6.2 mile run in on Saturday in St. Louis, a 5.2 mile run in at home on Monday, and a 6.2 mile run last night (Wednesday night) after I arrived. I have found that a good run after the flight really seems to help with jetlag. Tonight will be another 6 mile run.

blankmind-so very sorry to hear about your Dad’s stroke. I hope things are going OK.

MOWC-congrats on the half marathon! You and your son both did great!

sabaray-ouch, so sorry to hear about your injury. It certainly sounds as if a rest week is in order. Congrats to your daughter on the new job and it’s great that you were able to help her with the negotiations. I think this is really hard for young people because they just don’t have enough experience to know what they should be able to negotiate and how to do it.

abasket-how awesome that your daughter cheered on the marathoners! My husband and I ran the Columbus Half Marathon in 2012 for our very first half. They really do a nice job with that race.

BunsenBurner-how fun that your daughter is home for a few days! Enjoy your time with her!

Congrats again to your son, his happy partner, and his proud parents!

Kid did very well today! She biked to the town center, got a new sim card for her phone, and resisted wine tasting and happy hour at the local Starbucks. She said she had a newly found appreciation for my hilly marathon after biking up our hilly road! My only exercise was walking 2 miles to and from the commuter bus stop. I really should get off my butt and pump some iron now!

C3Baker- it all sounds like it went perfectly. I don’t know how you keep up your training with all that international travel. Time zone changes do me in!

Fun weekend, C3Baker - I know I couldn’t keep up with your schedule. Don’t forget to rest!

Headlamp is on the way. The ReVolt is actually cheaper and lighter than the other models I was considering, so that’s a win. Zappos of all places had it, so it will be here tomorrow in time for a run this weekend.

Great, sabaray! I put mine on the single beam and not the one with the two beams on the side of the single. That seems brightest to me. I tilt it one or two clicks down so it is shining about 4 feet in front of me. I have really bad night vision (worse since my surgery) and this gives me complete confidence for night running.

4.1 miles before work. It got light enough to turn off the headlamp at about 2 miles, but I left it on until 3 just for visibility.

My night vision is very, very poor, so your recommendation was the tipping point for me. I need all the help I can get!

Let us know how that headlight works for you Sabaray - actually had one out last night for a later evening pup walk - and ended up handing it off to my H who was doing some late evening yard work - but, the one we have is older and HEAVY. Lightweight would be good!

Trainer workout for me today. She had me do “real” pushups. I usually do modified pushups on my knees and wasn’t sure I could do them on my toes, but I surprised myself by doing 15.

Yay, Bromfield! You really have no idea what you can do unless you actually try it. Congrats.

Wow, Bromfield! Nice work!

Congrats again, C3Baker!

Good for you, Bromfield. I dread push-ups of all types. They’re too hard on my wrists.

I had a good workout today, one that wasn’t particularly taxing but left me feeling energized. I went to the gym, ran two miles at a leisurely pace, and then went through the weight circuit–all while listening to a podcast. Walked another two tonight with DH. But… I explain my lasting feeling of well-being not solely as a result of my exercise, but also from getting a plumber here this morning to remove blockage in the kitchen sink drain line using a hydrojetting technique (basically a power washing snake-like tool). Exorcising the glug of the slow drain and exercising–empowering

Last night I ran 6.3 miles at a somewhat slower pace. Looking forward to a rest day today.

Bromfield-great job on the push-ups!

Great accomplishment Bromfield! Push-ups are tough but a great whole body exercise when done in a full plank like you did.

PlantMom, have you ever tried push-ups on push-up bars? While often used to increase the load factor by enabling you to descend deeper into the movement, they can be used to alleviate stress on your wrists while not increasing the load by going deeper. On the bars, instead of flexing or bending your wrists, keep your hands stacked in alignment with your wrist and forearm. Stacking your joints can be a very effective technique to eliminate joint stresses.
