Mr. B likes his Perfect Push-up things, because with them, his wrists do not hurt.
Another thing that can be done for those that are new to push-ups is to use the bar on a Smith machine at your gym for an assist. Resistance/load can be adjusted by a combination of adjusting the height of the bar and by varying the distance of you feet from the bar (both of which impact on body angle). Use the bar height as gross adjustments to the load range and foot position as finer load adjustments at each stage of the bar height as you progress from a near verticle body position to a more horizontal one. Resist the temptation to wrap your thumb under the bar as that will promote flexing your wrist. Instead, curl your thumb over the bar, resting on the heel of the palm of your hands. Keep your wrists stacked (straight). This hand position may feel strange at first but trust me, you won’t lose your grip and fall off the bar :).
After I finished a 3 mile run this morning I got a call from my half-brother that our father passed away in his sleep. He was 90. I thought we had a little more time- but knew it wasn’t much. It’s always sad, but I know it was time.
We have had unbelievably great weather this week- sunny and warm with cool mornings. It’s about to end and get rainy, but it’s been nice! I’m doing a group run tomorrow morning in a different part of town (I want a change of scenery) and I suspect I will be way at the back, but that’s OK.
So very sorry about your father, MOWC. The fact he lived to be 90 bodes well for your long life!
I know I’ll be way at the back tomorrow, but I’m okay with that. I’m just glad that I feel like running again. I also hope that my headlamp arrives early enough today but I can figure it all out before morning rolls around. My hand is still really sore, my knee looks ick and I have a bruised area on my other calf from an excited sabapup. I wonder if the Walking Dead is casting? I wouldn’t need much makeup!
The headlamps are blessedly easy. Fortunately…
MoWC, I’m very sorry to hear about your father.
Went for a run this morning, made it three miles. I’m back home after getting my dad settled in an acute therapy facility. What an emotional roller coaster this past week has been. So much sad news.
Very sorry about your dad, MOWC. I remember he married recently
In a recent attempt to liven up my cooking, I purchased Dr. Weil’s new cookbook, “Fast Food, Good Food” which offers recipes that adhere to his anti-inflammatory diet guidelines. The diet is not intended for weight loss rather health improvement and overall wellness. Unlike other “diet” cookbooks, it seems most of the ingredients called for are ones I already have on hand. Looking forward to trying some of these out this weekend.
MOWC, very sad about your father. It’s always sad when you lose a parent even when they’ve lived a long life.
4 mile run yesterday, 3 mile trail walk today.
Just read your post blankmind, what a week it’s been is right. Sorry about your dad also, that is very hard.
Sorry to hear about your dad, MoWC.
I do pushups on the end of my fists because it hurts to bend my wrists back that far. Just keep your thumb more out to the side than wrapped over you fore- and middle fingers, as this stabilizes the metacarpals.
MOWC, so sorry to hear about your dad. May his memories be a comfort to you.
Thanks, all. I do have a “new” stepmother (almost 2 years now) and we will figure out where she will want to go next. I had planned to go up to northern VA next weekend anyway and we are trying to pull together a memorial service, although my priest daughter will probably not be able to attend on this short of notice.
Sorry for your loss, MOWC.
I’m sorry for your loss, MoWC.
Thanks, everyone.
Garmin has announced the 630, 230 and 235 ( I think I have that right). I’m thinking I want the 235 for Christmas. It comes in a pretty blue and has the HR sensor on the watch like the Mio technology, except this is new technology from Garmin. I hope it works well. DCRainmaker did a preliminary review, but didn’t spend a lot of time with the watches yet, but they sound fantastic. I think the 235 is about $300. I love my 220, but it will be nice not to have to wear the HR band on my wrist separately, and the new series of watches has 4 sections on each screen unlike the 220 with has 3. http://www.dcrainmaker.com/2015/10/garmin-fr230-fr235-fr630.html
I got a new Lulu jacket for cooler and/or damper weather. I think Bunsen needs one. I got the teal print and it is gorgeous. I will wear it to work, too. http://shop.lululemon.com/products/clothes-accessories/jackets-and-hoodies-jackets/Go-The-Distance-Jacket?cc=20561&skuId=3633574&catId=jackets-and-hoodies-jackets
That jacket has “me” written all over it - LOVE.IT.
@MomofWildChild So sorry to hear about the loss of your beloved father.

MoWC, I just bought that same jacket today! Except I got the pink one because most of my bottoms are prints. My store didn’t have that green or I might’ve gotten that one instead.
I’ve been eyeing that jacket too but just can’t justify it. I got something called “The Best Vest” jacket during the warehouse sale that should serve me well for the fall months.
Headlamp arrived, I managed to get the batteries in, know how to turn it on and off and it’s now charging. Seems very light and not annoying on top of a cap. I’ll give you the full verdict tomorrow, abasket.
Sabadog and Sabapup agreed to go on a walk with me where we met up with our friends the neighborhood golden retriever duo and their mom. Beautiful evening for some romps.
I’m glad we all like it! I ordered the green online. I would love to have it in pink, too, but I’ll hold off. It is really nice!
