Diet/Exercise/Health/Wellness Support Thread

I needed something to lift my spirits today, and since we’re supposed to have a very rainy winter I figured I might as well get myself a nice jacket for running in the rain

I have a couple of lulu jackets (just a couple, lol). I think they are well worth the money I’ve paid for them as I have worn them to death.

Super cute jackets MOWC and BB!

While I posted in response to your Facebook post, MOWC, it’s more personal here among our community of supporters. I am so sorry to hear of the passing of your father. Please accept my heartfelt condolences.

Hi all - having a nutty week & not able to check in much, but hugs to blankmind, MOWC and sabaray. Hoping for a restorative weekend for all.

So sorry, MOfWC.

Been out all day driving around getting last minute shopping and other stuff done with the kiddo. Not a whole lot of exercise, but also not a whole lot of food either! I just came out of my local Lulu. They did not have those jackets!! I do need one. Badly. The teal is amazing.

Thanks, Michael.

Maybe I should sleep in the jacket to cheer me up!

Heartfelt condolences to Blankmind and MOWC. Sabaray, I hope your wrist is feeling better.

I’m still reading and exercising, if rarely posting. It’s getting cooler, cap and gloves weather here this afternoon.

Enjoy “seeing” you when you are here Deb T!!! Reading and exercising - two of my favorite things! (and maybe a hot cup of something with that read!!!)

It’s good to see you here, Deborah. I’ve missed seeing your posts–hope all is well.

Thanks for the push up tips, Michael. Next time I’m at the gym I’ll give it a try on the bar. I’ve always had weak wrists and ankles so anything I can do to give them a break is helpful.

I took a little walk in the woods. Beautiful, breezy afternoon for it. Not much exercise, except for my camera snapping muscles, but it was an excellent way to clear my brain. My husband and I walked a brisk two miles this evening and then went out for some Korean bbq.

I want to wear a pretty lulu jacket! Alas, I am definitely enjoying my new skirts.

Ran 3 miles earlier. Not the best run ever. I think I am giving up on the shoes I was wearing - a pair of Adidas I bought in the summer. They look great! But they don’t feel great. No cushy feel – kind of feel like I have hard clodhoppers on when I wear them. I have another pair of Nikes ready to enter the line up in the closet. Time to pull them out.

Did a Parallettes workout tonight followed by 3 sets of weighted chin ups, 3 sets of weighted dips and 3 sets of dumbbell curls. Time to curl up in bed and whimper.

I struggled through a 13.2 mile run this morning. The training plan called for 13 miles and I was kind of hoping to get 15 miles in, but I was ready to quit when I did. It’s just hard for me to run long distances here in Shanghai. The marathon is two weeks from today so at this point I guess I’m just sticking with the training plan.

I just ordered the Lulu jacket! I have been looking everywhere for a good running rain jacket and haven’t been able to find one I like. And then miraculously MOWC posts that link! (Might not qualify as a true Miracle, but it seems that way to me!) I am crossing my fingers that I guessed appropriately on the size, but I think there should be enough time to order a different one if I need to. I really want a good rain jacket to have in case of bad weather for the marathon.

MOWC-sorry to hear about your Dad. It’s always tough, even if it is somewhat expected.

BunsenBurner-glad you are enjoying the time with your kiddo. It sounds as if she isn’t home often and I know how precious the time is when nomadic kids make an appearance.

Enjoy your weekend!

C3Baker, I am in awe. Running on the other side of the planet! You really need to get your legs some rest now! No more runs longer than 8 miles, please.

Kiddo got a new haircut which make her look like Taylor Swift - at least in photos! I convinced her to go to the other Lulu store and check if they had the jacket. She convinced me that she needed a Lulu hoodie and a pair of yoga pants, but we did not find the jacket. Oh, well. There is always online ordering.

Abasket- I have wanted to like Adidas shoes but just haven’t been able to.

I wear 4 or 6 in Lulu and got the jacket in 6 for layering, but the 4 would probably have worked, too.

C3B- thanks. Time for you to rest up!

Well, made it out this morning, got in 7.1 miles, very moderate pace. Headlamp is great - everyone in the group appreciated it when we ran through our dark park. Big sports day here so we saw lots of students headed for the stadium…some of who never seemed to make it home last night!

Okay, I need that jacket. A pair of wunder unders was a casualty last week so I need to order some more anyway. Might as well save on shipping. Or at least that’s what we’ll tell Mr. Sabaray.

I’m going to have stop reading this thread - you all are tempting me to go out and buy jackets!!!

That’s a very nice run Sabaray and I’m surprised you were the only one in the group with a headlamp! Bet they will all be buying one now!

CB3B - agree with the others - tamper down that mileage ! Your marathon is coming soon!

Speaking of marathons saw this posted elsewhere - kind of comical:

So sorry to hear about your Dad, MOWC. Losing a parent is always difficult.

C3–I think it’s so great that you keep up your training while traveling!

Driving back to vacation place to close up for the season. My plan is to get there in time for yoga class and do all the heavy lifting tomorrow.

So sorry about your dad, MoWC.

Here’s another article about Lululemon: http://www.nytimes.com/2015/10/25/fashion/lululemons-kumbaya-capitalism.html?hp&action=click&pgtype=Homepage&module=mini-moth&region=top-stories-below&WT.nav=top-stories-below&_r=0

Went on a short run yesterday. I’ve been vacillating about running in the local Halloween 5K on Sunday, but there is rain in the forecast, I’m trying to get over a cold, so I’m wimping out. There’s always next year! The whole family is going to do the local Thanksgiving Turkey Trot 5K.

LOL, abasket. But why would anyone ever run a marathon without talking about it?

Glad you liked the headlamp, sabaray. They really are great. I tried Knuckle Lights at one point, which is a great concept. They just fit over your knuckles. However, battery life was horrible and they would die without warning while you were in the middle of a dark course. Um, no.

My 8.3 mile “group” run this morning wasn’t great. There were about 20 plus runners, and I was absolutely the slowest. I mean- couldn’t even see them after about 1 1/2 miles. Fortunately, my daughter was the next slowest and knew the course. I stayed close to her and even with her until the last 40 minutes or so when she had an assignment from her coach requiring her to run faster. It was very humid and warm- about 68-73 degrees while we were out there. Some of the roads had more traffic than I like, but others were gorgeous. I just felt tired and did not have a good run, but I made it. It was one of those days where slowing down didn’t help- there was just NO comfortable pace for me. They gave us a 20% discount at the store (Nashville Running Company) for showing up, so I bought some Oiselle capris and some cute cropped tights from a company called Craft that will be good under my Nuu-Muus. I mean, how can you NOT shop when they are giving you 20% off! They also had bagels for us at the end.

Ran 4.2 miles, with more walking than I wanted. I made the mistake of wearing long sleeves.

I could use some advice from you pros on revising my training plan. I missed a whole week, including a 17 miler. Should I just continue on the plan and ignore last week, or should I restart at last week’s mileage? Or does it really matter?
