I don’t think the mid-range or short runs matter as far as missing a week. What is the long run for this week? If it is a shorter run, I might go ahead and do the 17- or maybe 15 or 16.
The schedule calls for a 4 x 1 mile “speed” workout. Which of course sounds more do-able than 17 miles
I would do the long run and skip the speed work.
Ok, 17 miles it is!
Go for the 17 miles!
Good for you on making the short run, blankmind, and good luck with the 17 miles. Impressive!
Nice, MoWC. Good finds with the shopping. And your daughter is an angel! About the shopping, I would say that by saving 20 percent, you’ve actually made money
Interesting article on Lululemon, fireandrain. A lot of kumbaya, indeed.
Channeling Sabaray here. I was going to run this morning when H left at 6 AM to go to the office for a few hours, but I fell back asleep! Obviously I need a headlamp pointing at me to wake me up! After husband came home, we ended up taking a later morning bike ride and small hike instead. It was about 80 degrees and breezy, but the moving warm air felt pretty good.
Carb fix: We had bananas ripen en masse. Most had to be frozen, but I made a pretty good whole wheat banana bread with walnuts using honey and olive oil. I also made a mixed nut butter in the Vitamix–half peanuts, half fancy mixed nuts heavy on the cashews and hazelnuts. The not-too-sweet bread spread with the nut butter is a pretty tasty breakfast combination.
Yum!
I’d be happy to come by your house to get you for a run, PlantMom, if there’s breakfast after! I would love to be able to cook with some of you - I think we could put together some fabulous meals.
I haven’t been too bad today - cheddar thyme scone, Greek yogurt with honey, berries and banana - and now some popcorn - after a really bad week which included coffee cake.
A lot of it.
De-planted the dead tomato garden and helped Mr. scrape moss/pine needless off the long driveway. Our neighbors are not that much into yardwork, and if it weren’t for our efforts, the driveway would look like a complete mess. Also ripped some more of the neighbor’s ivy that trespassed into our yard.
Came home and did weights and goblet squats to round out the muscle work.
It’s a sad day when the garden comes out - bye bye tomatoes!!!
Plantmom, that sounds like fantastic bread made even better by the nut butter! I’m a big fan of nut crunch in lots of things - crunchy PB, nuts in my bread, waffles, oatmeal, yogurt…
It’s amazing how bad science can produce nonsensical results.

What a good find, Michael. Smoking and weight history matter.
Did my first 10K this morning! I did my run/walk ratio for most of the race & ran out the last mile for a 1:07 finish. Feeling great!! It was an 80’s themed race & for some reason one person was dressed as a banana. I thought of MOWC & the sonic hot dog & decided I would beat the banana at any cost. Nailed it!
Brilliant find on the weight and smoking!
There aren’t too many days (fortunately) when I truly don’t think I can stand to run. Today was one of them. It’s gloomy, a little drizzly, I tanked my legs yesterday and I’m just mentally and emotionally shot right now. I delayed the run and ate breakfast and finally figured out a way to stand it.
One of the good things about being invested in a streak is that you know you only have to do 1 mile to keep it going, and even on the worst days I can make myself do a mile. I couldn’t stand the thought of any of my regular routes today, so I drove my car about a mile to our community clubhouse, parked there, and did parts of a route I used to run when we lived in our other house. I also went into a new development across the road that is just being built. I like to run in new housing developments (as long as the roads are not too chewed up) because there are always portolets, no traffic and you can see the nice pretty new houses. Anyway- I mixed it up and enjoyed seeing some of my old route and managed to eke out 4 miles. Needless to say, I feel better all the way around having done the run. Done! (( also couldn’t face being the least bit chilly and way overdressed for the 58 degrees.)
Way to go, Gertrude! Yay on beating the banana!
Yay, Gertrude! Congrats!! That banana had no chance against your determination!
Gertrude that’s a great time, especially with run/walk!
MoWC, good job getting out there. It’s really hard some days.
So I went out for my 17 miles, and I felt good, I could tell it was going to be no problem to do 17. Around 6 miles, my knee started to hurt. I kept going, tried run/walk, but it was painful. I had to head home and ended up with 11 miles.
It’s a weird pain, more like a sharp nerve pain, and I feel like it’s coming from my hip/sciatica, but the knee is where it hurts. When I got home I foam rolled my whole leg and hip, and magically the pain is gone, except when I walk down stairs. Think I’m going to book an appointment with my chiro and see what’s going on. I’m so disappointed I didn’t get my 17 miles.
Ouch, blankmind.
There are all sorta nerves around the spine that can send signals down your leg… Have you had issues with sciatica for a while? I would find a sports doc specializing in spine care and get it checked out. That said, you made a smart decision cutting down your run.
Sorry, blankmind. I hope it is termporary and can be figured out.
I haven’t had issues for years Bunsen. But this last week in the hospital was rough on my back
Hope it will go away soon. Fingers crossed.
