Phew. Done with my 35 (feet on the bed) pushups and weights routine. I feel like I did not waste the weekend.
Chilly 5.5 miles this morning, felt good. Mr. Sabaray and I took a short drive yesterday to hit Whole Foods. I also indulged in a donut - made to order, right in front of you - best thing ever! Having one really good donut seems to curb my urge for 5 or 6 of the grocery store variety.
Speaking of donuts…(is that the true weakness for many of us?!) - I too indulged with some deluxe donut “holes” on Friday and a whole glazed, fried, apple filled one on Saturday. Overall, I didn’t eat a large quantity of badness the last few days, but what I did eat was not good (for you!)!!! Donut and stuffed ravioli on Saturday. Yesterday, a plate of carnita nachos at a Mexican restaurant (the small order mind you but with all the yummy queso and all on top!) and a Trader Joe “inside out” carrot cake cookie - picture two carrot cake cookies sandwiched with cream cheese frosting in the middle. So only my food consumption for the day was whole milk yogurt with cherries and an egg for breakfast + a chai latte, the nachos and the inside out carrot cake cookie. Not a terrible quantity, BUT not so good choices!!
So, I declare a clean(er) eating week. This morning repeated the breakfast yesterday + a clementine. My lunch bag has a salad with lots of veggies and some leftover stir-fried kale and other veggies.
Anyone need to join me in a better eating week??
Great idea, abasket! My house is well stocked for a clean eating week. I am naming you my accountability partner.
Sounds good.
Want to meet at the local coffee shop for a latte and scone - oops!!!
I’ll join you at the clean eating week strategy meeting!
This weekend was not too bad, but I hit the bag of dried mangoes.
My daughter baked cookies & left half a giant bag of chocolate chips. It’s just so easy to grab a few every time I pass that cabinet. OK, now I’m motivated to “ignore” them. If only they didn’t call to me so loud…
Just returned from an off campus meeting. Knew I had a mini Snickers bar in my purse that I picked from a sample table at Costco. Went to reach in to get it but said, “nope! You have a deal with Sabaray!!” - it’s the little things right - the little things that can add up - the small Snickers bar, the few chocolate chips…
Have you seen those commercials where the guy is wearing a football helmet that apparently has headphones inside that receive instructions from his “life coach” ? When he looks at fried food, he hears “NO!” your post reminded me of that commercial. ![]()
Good for you guys! I’m going to a work event (3 day meeting) so clean eating will not happen this week. Followed by a trip up to VA for my father’s memorial service.
Donuts are a weakness of mine, for sure. I really like GOOD donuts. Fortunately, unlike when I lived in Dallas, I have to go out of my way to acquire a donut here in TN. In Dallas there was a good independent donut shop about every mile. Here we have Dunkin, Krispy Kreme and 1 independent that is way far from me.
DH asked me to make lasagna for his bachelor father and brother this weekend…and another pan for him. Yikes, it’s hard to pass that up…and I didn’t…
Going to have to peddle extra hard this week after lasagna and a several course meal with wines we had this weekend with friends.
Oh well, it happens.
I’m in!
So far:
- Breakfast: 2 eggs, half of a Thomas bagel (carbs, but just 125 calories of them), large cup of watermelon, large mug of unsweetened coffee with 2% milk.
- Lunch: small cup of lentil and steak soup, one container of Chobani cherry yogurt, cup of strawberries, cup of blueberries, cup of coffee and water.
Doing good here! I think.
Lookin good BB!
I’m more of a vegetable eater than a fruit eater but have to say already missing the summer peaches, watermelon (good watermelon) etc. Apples and blackberries are the current top picks. I did pick up a bag of frozen cherries at Costco - they are my favorite fruit (besides fresh peaches) to put in my whole milk plain yogurt.
I think I did okay today:
- Breakfast: whole milk Fage yogurt, drizzle of raw honey, raspberries, blackberries and banana; coffee with whole milk
- Lunch: homemade chicken salsa soup (chicken, Rotel tomatoes, salsa, black beans)
- Dinner: grass-fed grilled hamburger patty, organic slaw with peanut sesame dressing
Lots of water. I can already see I need to add more vegetables.
This is pretty much my standard daily diet with variation depending on what’s in the fridge - I stuck to this (but added a handful of peanut M&M’s - hangs head in shame!)
Breakfast - oatmeal with chopped apples
Mid-morning - Greek yogurt with berries & muesli
Lunch - Salad with chopped hardboiled egg; honey roasted almonds for dessert
Mid-afternoon - Black bean soup, orange slices with tea
Dinner will be mushroom ravioli & roasted asparagus.
I really struggle with what I call “the nibbles” which as abasket described, can really add up over the course of the day! A few M&M’s here, a few chocolate chips there, a bunch of tasting while I cook dinner. Not sure how to conquer that.
Tie your hands behind your back and let someone else cook?!
3.5 mile run. One more walk for the pup tonight. Good job on the eating folks. I still have to have some dinner - my future DIL brought me homecooked Lebanese food from a church event yesterday - so I’ll be having some green beans/rice, grape leaves and there is some cooked kibbe …I’m not sure how that last item will work for me!!!
Do you keep a food diary, Gertrude? When I was really trying to lose I would track my diet daily. Now I just do it when I need the accountability. Sometimes that can make you more mindful of your eating.
I sort of keep a food diary on My Fitness Pal, but I get bored with it very quickly & neglect it. Alright, I will complete it for today & commit to tomorrow as well!
You know what would be good? A calorie tracking app with an image recognition built in! Since we all have our phones literally glued to our hands, the app user can grab her smartphone and snap a photo of a snack about to be consumed, and if the app recognizes it as junk (or if the user already had too many calories for the day), the app will play MC Hammer “can’t touch this!” song - LOUDLY. Seriously, I would drop even the tastiest morsel if I hear MC Hammer…
