Diet/Exercise/Health/Wellness Support Thread

Mr. Sabaray also had a doctor’s appointment yesterday. :frowning: He is now on a statin and blood pressure medication. He walked the dogs solo while I fixed breakfast, something he is prone to skipping. I think he got his reality check. Our doc is really great - no lecture, just a welcome back and let’s start over. He’ll have blood work in 5 weeks, recheck in 6.

Dismal weather this morning. Good job on the double yoga, FallGirl!

Oh my goodness, you are all such healthy eaters.

Last night was a 6.6 mile run and tonight was a 3.7 mile run. Tomorrow afternoon I am headed home. Yay!

From today’s NYT. Exercise is good for our cells.

Keep up the activity!

Good find, PlantMom. Hope to see more of their study results published.

A link below the article led me to this one. Those Sonic hot dogs and bananas do make us faster! Never underestimate the mental component of racing.

Blankmind, fingers crossed for your knee.

Beware of the “It’s National Chocolate Day!” thread.

Lunchtime spin class today. My ears are kind of stuff and I feel fine but TIRED today - not my most stellar class but I sweated my way through.

Typical breakfast: soft poached egg, cottage cheese w/frozen cherries and a sprinkle of almonds and granola.
Lunch is another small amount of pasta with LOTS of marinara and mushrooms and some fresh mozzarella melted on top. A honeycrisp apple with some crunchy natural PB!

No chocolate - YET.

Ran up the hill to be on time! Only to find out that the others weren’t.

Breakfast: 2 egg scramble with a dash of cheese, cup of strawberries, coffee with 2% milk.

Lunch (packed and ready!): beef Stroganoff with leftover buckwheat pilaf (OMG, that small pack made a ton of it!), cucumber slices, and strawberries.

Just a heads up that I will be having a scoop of peanut butter chocolate chip ice cream at home tonight - after all, it’s National Chocolate Day! One scoop.

One of my homespun ideas for dinner. A typical dinner when I’m home alone. Slice an uncooked smallish sweet potato into thin “french fries”. Toss with olive oil, salt and pepper and bake at 400. Meanwhile in a saute pan I sauteed 1/2 piece of chopped bacon, jalapeno, banana pepper, onion. Near the end, I added chopped kale. Poured the veggie mixture over the top of the hot sweet potatoes and then topped with a little monterrey jack cheese. Pesto on the side. AMAZING!!!

I haven’t posted much lately. Starting to get into training more after sitting out from a stress fracture in foot. Wimped out and didn’t compete in the National Senior Olympics back in July. Trained but didn’t train with a “competitive” mindset. Need to post more to keep myself accountable!

I’ve decided to rededicate myself and train for the 2017 Nationals in Birmingham. I’ll be in the 60 age group category and I could win the gold if I train properly. I’ll focus on 800 meters but will probably compete in the 400, 1500 and triathlon.

2016 is a qualifying year for the 2017 nationals. You can qualify at any state senior games. Lot of different fitness events-5k/10k, swimming, cycling, horshoes and more!

Those are amazing goals to have Ohio! How is the foot doing?

Sometimes a fresh start with new, small steps is the best start, Sabaray. Glad he went back for an appointment.

Glad to hear you’re getting back on (the) track after mending up your stress fracture, Ohio. Sounds like a lot of training, with the triathlon competition included. Good luck, and do post your training updates!

Your sweet potato dinner sounds pretty delicious, abasket. I make sweet potato wedge fries exactly that way, using some spicy seasoning. I love it when they get a bit crispy and caramelized on the edges. I have resisted chocolate today. But not the glass of wine

I realized last night that I hadn’t had my blood drawn ahead of my physical, next week. This morning I left early in a fasted, un-caffeinated and hungry state to wait in line at the lab. Rushed home to get a quick run/walk and breakfast in before the day’s contractor arrived. We took a short walk tonight as well.

Breakfast, when I finally got it: Lemon yogurt with blueberries, walnuts, and crumbled banana bread, green tea
Lunch: Repeat of yesterday’s curried tuna and
Dinner: Black beans, leftover squash soup, wheat toast, green salad, milk, one small glass of white wine

The verdict on my knee is runners knee (patellofemoral pain). The problem is not a tight IT band, but tight quad muscles. I’m taped up and have hip, glute and core exercises to do. I have to rest it for a while :frowning:

That’s really good news compared to the alternative (torn meniscus). Do your exercises religiously. And I mean religiously! They will help. And rest will help, too. Get yourself a good knee brace to stabilize it when you get back into running. I use CEP (it is my good luck charm of sorts now; I probably don’t need it but still run with it if the distance is over 10 miles or so). You will get better!

Lots of news! Good goals, Ohio. Look forward to following your progress.
Sabaray- I hope it “takes” for your husband.
Blankmind- not a horrible diagnosis, you can fix it,
Abasket- sounds good!

I’m in San Antonio at a gorgeous resort hotel. It’s huge. 3 day conference with a bunch of lawyers. I got the route to run in the morning. It will be dark when I start so I brought the headlamp. Rolling hills around here, which is why it is called the Hill Country! The sky is big and blue. I’ve missed that about Texas.

I didn’t do so great today. D2 is off on an overnight field trip, so DH & I tried out a new ramen place. They seem tobe popping up all over here & we love a good $5 bowl of ramen with a $2 sapporro! But it’s probably not high on the health meter. And the chocolate chips got to me today as well. Tomorrow is a new day.

There’s a Lululemon lawyer here at this meeting. I told her I was their best customer.

Say hi to her/him from the second best customer!

To her.

See if you can get us a bulk CC group discount!!!

Really!
6.1 headlamp lit miles in the rolling hills of San Antonio. It’s gorgeous at and around this resort. There was a big moon. Pretty good street lights and hardly any traffic. It was still dark at 7 am when I finished.

Just ordered some more Roga pants from Oiselle factory sale. They are a comfortable and light sweatpants style.
