MOfWC, it sounds runner-heavenly.
@MomOfWildChild, are you staying in the La Cantera area? So pretty.
What a great time of year to be in the Texas Hill Country!
I think so. It’s the JW Marriott resort. I have not stayed here before. Unfortunately, mew have very little free time. I got to be outside to run, and lunch will be outside. Tonight we go to a group dinner on the River Walk. It looks like there are a lot of gated communities around here.
River Walk can be good people watching.
It is cool and rainy today and I am still fighting a bad cold so I only walked 3 miles outside with the dog. Ugh…hard not to cough all the time.
NMinn, it is about 1 mile longer than I walked today, and I’m not sick! Great job.
So, healthy eating… Nott gutt. Last night, I was dragged into a dinner at a nice restaurant. Had salmon (healthy!) and then ate a large slice of bread, a glass of Riesling, and a scoop of huckleberry ice cream for dessert (not healthy!).
Today’s breakfast was 2 eggs, coffee, and some watermelon. But I fell off the wagon with my grilled cheese sandwich and banana lunch! Need to redeem myself at dinnertime.
Yesterday’s dinner was not so good - small bag of air popped popcorn and diet coke. Yup.
Had Pilates this morning, followed by yogurt with honey, raspberries, banana and walnuts; coffee with whole milk; lunch was chicken salsa soup; dinner was a Fiber One muffin with an egg, Canadian bacon and super thin sharp cheddar. I am seeing a pattern here.
Hope you feel better soon, NMinn!
4 mile trail running tonight. Headed to Vegas trade show this weekend. I’m going to try some desert mountain biking this weekend. Also going to maybe ride the red rock loop on a road bike.
You did well with three miles, NMinn. Hope you feel better soon!
Happy biking, Ohio.
BB, it doesn’t sound like you’ve fallen very far off the wagon! And huckleberry ice cream, yum.
About 4 miles of running this morning. Two mile walk tonight. We had tile work in our kitchen yesterday; I spent quite a bit of time on my knees today cleaning off the grout haze–that’s got to count for something.
I received a pound of dark chocolate covered dried cherries and a few pieces of aged cheddar today. I have not sampled either though they tempt.
Breakfast: Bran flakes with ff milk
Lunch: Chick peas cooked “hummus style”, ww toast, avocado, honey crisp apple, cottage cheese, a weak blend of unsweetened tart cherry and cranberry juice.
Snack: A handful of peanuts and goldfish
Dinner: Corn-flake crusted chicken breast with hot sauce, sweet potato fries, sauteed broccoli, skim milk, wine
Dessert: pumpkin Chobani yogurt
Oh man, chocolate covered dark cherries and cheddar!!!
Clean eating doesn’t have to mean boring and rabbit food eating - little splurges are ok.
Breakfast was my usual - yogurt, cherries, granola and an egg. Lunch was a little of this and that - what I threw in my lunch box at the last minute! - apple, crunchy PB, some shakshuka (like a thicker salsa and peppers) with a few tortilla chips, leftover sweet potato from last night and a clementine. S and his fiance came over for dinner tonight - I had put a roast in the crockpot this morning with lots of mushrooms, onion and carrots. Made asparagus and roasted beets when I got home. Some scalloped potatoes thanks to a Costco microwaved item. My extra splurge was a piece of baguette and butter. Have to say, it was all delicious!
Walking around my office this morning with my tennis shoes on instead of flats because my left foot (I’m dominant left) is bothering partially probably due to wearing a new pair of flats too long yesterday and partially because I tend to get - I don’t know what to call it - hard tender spots on the mid ball of my foot. Slightly raised hard “bumps”. What do you think it could be? Need for better socks? Support? Should I treat that area in any way? It’s kind of like hard callous spots.
Running restriction and Halloween candy is not a good combination.
Plantmom…does the tart cherry juice help you sleep better? I had read a few articles that said it helps.
abasket, to me it sounds like a callus. I get those spots as well, and they seem to resolve on their own. The new shoes might be a contributing factor - were you wearing a sock with those?
NMinn, I buy tart cherry concentrate and take a tablespoon - it helps with inflammation. Good for after a long run. Don’t know about as a sleep aid - I’ve been taking magnesium for that - not sure if it’s helping or just wishful thinking.
I need a kick in the rear to get back on track with running. I’m just not up to being with a group right now and H doesn’t want me to run alone.
Abasket- could they be what are called corns? I have one of those on my left foot. Sort of like a hard callous.
Dangerous thunderstorms here in San Antonio with flood alerts. Hotel treadmill for 3 miles. Not a bad gym- they had about 6 treadmills. The on-treadmill tv wasn’t great and I got warm, but I did it! Way too much food and drink at this conference.
Met John Dean of Watergate fame yesterday. He spoke to this group- actually, he was here 2 years ago, too.
I was not wearing socks with the new shoes - I don’t do socks at all unless I’m wearing running shoes, boots or tights.
But the “whatever” it is was there before the new shoe wearing - the day just enhanced them. Looking at pictures of corns and callus online (gross!!!) I think it’s more of a callus. If I touch one, it sort of feels like there is a slight point in the middle. Since I tend to favor left, I wonder if I’m landing harder on that foot when I run.
Any treatment suggestions besides new socks???
Sabaray, can you run at an alternative time of the day (when it’s light at all) where your H would be more comfortable??
Pumice the bottom of your foot regularly to remove dead skin and moisturize. Most of my socks have some padding - I really like Balega. I thought they were pricey at first but they hold up really well. Perhaps you need some additional padding in your shoes to relieve pressure? I wonder if the Adidas you ran in and didn’t like aggravated it as well.
I like running in the am, abasket, because in the evening H usually isn’t home until very late and I have the vast majority of the household duties - which include Sabadog and Sabapup. Hopefully with the time change it won’t be so pitch black in the morning.
The time change will be nice. I really had to force myself out into the darkness yesterday & it didn’t really get light until I was close to finished with my run.
I’m wearing my bathrobe & slippers & a shower cap to work today for our Halloween party. Yeah, minimal effort expended, but I’m excited about wearing my big fuzzy warm bathrobe all day!
I will have to make a conscience effort to do some better foot care. Maybe tell Mr. Abasket I need a regular pedicure??!
Time change is NOT the evening runner’s friend! So depressing…
