Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

Had a nice 6 miles this morning so I can enjoy today guilt-free! Yes, we’re having apple pie and sea salt caramel gelato. Hope everyone is able to enjoy the day being with the ones they love.

Happy thanksgiving everyone. My H, my son and I along with various relatives had planned to do a run this morning but right now it’s raining. Boo! Not sure if everyone is going to bail. Bummer, I was looking forward to a bit of exercise before all the gluttony

@CBBBlinker, I’m sorry you have to deal with that kind of stress during what should otherwise be a time of excitement and happiness. Religious issues can just be so tough. I was the best man at my college roommate’s wedding. The bride was Catholic and he was Protestant and the amount of pressure inflicted on the couple, even though they were both from denominations of Christianity, was unbelievable. The bride’s mother insisted on a Catholic ceremony and bombarded the couple with all sorts of “literature” about children and religious upbringing to support her position. Fortunately, the priest they ended up using was very laid back and understanding and defused the tension between the couple. Hopefully, the priest at your husband’s church will be of similar assistance. I had to deal with religious looney tune behavior in my own marriage too. At the time my wife and I announced we were getting married, her parents seriously questioned whether I was really of the same faith as them (Jewish) because in a broad variety of ways I did not conform to their very conservative religious observance and cultural expectations. It got so nutty that my wife finally offered to have me physically demonstrate that I was. That shut her mother up real fast!

At the other extreme, my son (Jewish) and his wife (Catholic) got married on 10 days notice to the families by the pilot of a hot air ballon in a field in Chester County PA. The pilot was a legally recognized minister in the Church of the Notary Public or some such silliness. I’ll never forget that when we stopped at his parish office, there were signs stating that in addition to performing marriages, he could notorize legal papers and submit auto registrations to the state. My biggest concern became that when they took off in the hot air balloon after the ceremony, that given the prevailing winds, the newly weds not end up honeymooning in Camden NJ!

Hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving. Time for me to do a bike ride in anticipation of the feast of goodies later today. Oatmeal raisin gelato and turkey. What a combination lol.

My wife is Jewish; I am not.

Prior to our wedding, my future MIL gave us a book on mixed marriages, the gist of which was that they don’t work, and we should just break up and save everyone a lot of heartache.

26 years later… We joke about it now. Her parents came around after we gave them some grandkids.

ObExercise: we are in SC and it’s 70 degrees… Long walk in the beach is on tap.

Happy Thanksgiving to all the fitness fanatics. 6 miles. Started off slow with the idea that I was going to stay slow, but by mile 4 the legs said Go Fast!

Happy Thanksgiving, all. 8.1 miles in the bag for me! 52 degrees, mostly sunny and some wind. I wore capris and a long sleeved top (wound up pushing up the sleeves) and my son went out shirtless. Oh well.

Have a good day, everyone. I’m thankful for this group!

I’m thankful for this group, too.

I ran a 5K Turkey Trot this morning with about 3000 other people. Ran alongside a slower friend, so went much slower than usual, although I sprinted at the end. Then I walked back and met up with my husband and daughter and walked to the finish with them.

Enjoy the food and family today!

Happy Thanksgiving! I am also very thankful for this group!

27 degrees - again!! I will start cooking and then go for a spin around the block when it gets warmer.

Got our family run in. My S who doesn’t run, went out fast and died. He’s a former XC runner who’s fallen off the wagon. He caught up to my sil and I who were gabbing and walking and running lol. So my S ran a bit and walked a bit and we got it done.

Of course the s got a bunch of he needs to run from us. We are annoying but predictable ;).

Now to watch the Lions and then eat. My sil said we are going to eat at 3 but we are taking bets on when we actually sit down. My money’s on 6:15.

Four mile walk on the beach. The weather is just ridiculous. #noshirtthanksgiving

Did my 5K Tofurky Trot (about 400 people, as opposed to the thousands that were at the Turkey Trot) this morning, thrilled to finish in almost under 30 minutes (30:05)… until I looked at the GPS map and it said it was only 2.95 miles. I don’t know if the course was short or the GPS cut all the corners. I know I shouldn’t be as annoyed as I am, but given the very casual organization of the run, I’m pretty sure the course measurement was off… For my $30, I’d like to at least have an accurate course measurement.

dmd, if your gps says 2.95, just tell yourself that you ran the course in the most efficient way - tangentially. Great job!!! That is a nice time.

My marathons were all on certified courses and still by GPS were about 26.35-26.4 miles long, because I usually try to minimize the impact of road camber and pass a lot of slower folks.

Well, maybe, @BunsenBurner … I did cut every single corner I could.

It really bugs me when race courses aren’t measured correctly. GPS watches will be off a little- but usually on the long side due to weaving by the wearer! Remember in April when I crossed the finish line of our little company 5K and announced loudly that it was only 2.85. My Sr. VP of HR, who had won, was not pleased. I absolutely knew it was way short- since I don’t run 26 minutes late in the day after running in the morning on a twisty course with no incentive to go fast. I don’t think I won any points with that one…

Happy Thanksgiving! I’m thankful for this forum and all of your support!

We had a tiny family gathering–just husband and I–but the food was still big and tasty. I have been on the phone acting as kitchen consultant to the youngsters, lol. My two boys got together and are cooking a meal for S1’s friends. So proud of him/them for reaching out. DD called to say she’d made her pecan pie crust for bf’s family with twice the amount of butter required. I don’t know how you even roll a crust like that out, but assured her that it was certain to be doubly good and guaranteed non-stick. We walked close to four miles this morning although we did dash for a short while to get out of a little cloud burst. Otherwise, it’s been sunny, breezy, and a bit warm. Now for the big game of the day in the happiness of the food haze–just finished the pumpkin pie

I remember that one, MOfWC!

Went for a short run, then continued cooking. Pigging out now! Hope all had a nice feast.

Sounds like plenty of exercise to be had today!

No “work up a sweat” exercise time to be had for me today. Cooking all morning including breakfast, drive out of town and back for dinner. Did do all the dog walks today and between our main meal and dessert I convinced some of the family to take a 20-30 minute slow walk on their country road. Low 60’s for Thanksgiving.

Supposed to rain all day tomorrow and the gym is closed.

Did some ice dancing on the frozen deck while grilling the turkey! Solid 6.0 performance (under the old judging system).

Walked Wed. and Thurs. in my BIL’s community where we are visiting. None of my couch potatoes would come along. They just sat on the couch, at pie and ice cream, and watched Star Wars movies. Not that I was particularly good with food today, but I made at least some attempt at walking some small fraction of it off. I’d burn more calories if the dog didn’t stop to sniff/pee at every single tree in Bayonne!
