Might be off today. Having a “shin spint” feeling today. Haven’t had these for awhile and giving me 16 year old flashbacks when I used to get them real bad.
Hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving. We had a blast at our place. Group of 20, covering parents, grandparents adult children with spouses/fiances, siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins, dogs and cats. Great family get together. Comedic highlight of the evening: my daughter’s 60 lb pit bull pup Ella trying to play with one of our cats, Dexter a 16 lb Norwegian Forest Cat. All night long, the Ella was following Dex, dancing and prancing in front of him, following Dex from room to room. All night long, Dex stood guard at the entrances to the rooms or at the tops of stairs, growling, not hissing, but actually growling at Ella and then chasing Ella away from the area Dex was protecting. Very funny to watch this sweet lovable mass of muscle of a pup get schooled by a cat 1/4 its size.
Love those cats. They are gorgeous!
Ohio- hope it’s nothing lasting!
We have 3 Norwegians. Their personalities are more like dogs than the stereotypical cat. They follow us from room to room, talk to us constantly, great us at the door when we come into the house. And to boot, are hypoallergenic which you would never expect given their very dense, long, double layer fur. My wife is allergic to cats in general but has zero reaction to them. Some people scoff at the notion of a hypoallergenic cat breed, but our experience is to the contrary.
We had an earlier dinner, took a walk, then dessert, then I walked my mother home to make sure she was safely inside for the night. Two grudging walkers, but it was better than collapsing on the couch! Dogs were thrilled to get an extra walk in.
Rest day today, will probably consist of a little shopping - a trip over the mountain with D here.
Say hi to “over the mountain” for my, Sabaray. Love that new shopping area.
4 miles- 57 degrees and cloudy. It’s going to start to rain tonight.
Trainer workout and yoga this week. We spend Tday at our vacation place. Kids talked me into doing a turkey plunge where people go down to the beach and jump/walk into the Atlantic --have to stay for a minute. It’s a fundraiser for the local library. Even though it was almost 60 here in MA–the water was cold and it was even colder getting out! Never again.
Wow, what a Thanksgiving. The highlight of our event for the past 10 years or so is “The Game” where we hand everyone a questionnaire as they walk in with some serious, some funny questions on it. (Favorite book, movie, tell a story from a childhood holiday, etc.). After dinner, DH reads them & everyone tries to guess who gave those answers. It leads to MUCH laughing, story-telling, good-natured ribbing & often a glimpse of your relatives that would otherwise never be seen. Last night was possibly the best one ever. The kids/cousins are all old enough to fully participate & let their personalities shine.
On the food side, I ate way too much & drank a bit too much & felt pretty crummy. Back to my normal diet today & it will feel good!
That sounds fun, Gertrude. Bromfield- NO WAY! I’ve had friend who do the “Polar Bear plunges” on New Year’s Day. I can’t even stand getting in 75 degree water!
Oiselle is having a good sale today…I ordered.
I love silly family traditions. We have a “any holiday” tradition of playing Catch Phrase - never too old for that!!!
Well woke up this morning and checked my phone - weather said it was raining. Knew I needed to get pup out so decided to throw on some random clothes to get his walk in before it poured even harder. When I looked out, it actually WASN’T raining at that point. So, long story, but I couldn’t get to the majority of my exercise clothes and shoes (oldest D was in the bedroom sleeping where I keep that stuff) so I threw on this and that, not the best pair of running shoes but something do-able and went out for 3 miles. And then cooled down walking Charlie. THRILLED to get that unexpected exercise in - it’s raining now and the weather app shows it to be an all day affair. None, the less, it was low 50’s when I headed out in my scruffy clothing!!!
I have to do some shopping today too. Some food restocking, buy some new lifting gloves. Gave my existing set to my son last night when I noticed his hands were torn bloody through his callouses from doing sets of dead lifts barehanded with 400 lbs. We got him a professional grade powerlifting bar as an early Chanukah gift after he bent his old bar and the grip pattern is very aggressive. My My 31 year old, 148 I.Q. soon to be a father, lawyer son is an idiot sometimes, lol.
He also called me to report on a support hearing he had earlier today where he got his client, the wife, everything she wanted. I congratulated him on his good lawyering and my son laughed, explaining that the husband of his client was a jujitsu competitor and that my son had fought him a few months ago at a sanctioned competition, choked him out, causing him to tap out, in 20 seconds of the first round. The husband started out trash talking at the hearing but then suddenly realized who my son was and became very cooperative. It’s amazing just how well our judicial system works :). Gives a whole new meaning to the bumper sticker “My lawyer can beat your lawyer up” that I see from time to time.
OMG, Michael, that’s too funny!
That’s great, Michael.
Turns out my newest eye surgeon is a runner, which I knew from his bio. I told him about having trouble seeing houses and road signs during the Charlotte race and he wanted to hear about the run. He then said, “Have you heard of the Flying Monkey marathon? I ran that last week!” We had quite the chat- he’s run 3 Monkeys and so have I. He was very impressed with my times- and with my Monkey tattoo. Anyway- cataract surgery on Dec 14 and I have to do an obnoxious regimen of drops leading up to it. BEST NEWS- NO downtime from running. I’ll need to do my streak mile very early in the morning before the surgery because I’ll be groggy afterwards. After that, I can do a few miles a day of easy running but can’t fall on my eye. I’ll probably stick to the dreadmill for a week or so. I was sure I was going to be told no running for a week.
Great news, MOfWC!
Glad to hear that about the cataract surgery MOWC. Keep us posted.
Anyone know of anyone who would be interested in a Garmin Vivosmart? I was given one for my birthday and it’s been sitting in the box unused since I took it out and turned it on at the end of September. It was purchased from Amazon and I can’t return it because the credit would go back to my sister-in-laws account and I don’t want to hurt her feelings; she thought she was getting the perfect gift for me but I just don’t know how I would use it given the kinds of fitness stuff I do and the existing electronic trackers/monitors I currently use. If anyone’s interested, just send me a PM. Have I got a deal for you :)!
If you don’t get any takers, Michael, I can put it on my women’s running group (very private) and see if there is any interest.
I had to help my mother when she had her cataract surgery - the drop routine is pretty annoying, but she could see so much better after.
Not a very productive shopping trip - can you believe I saw nothing I wanted to buy? We had a very good Chinese lunch though - hot and sour soup, huge ginger garlic mussels, crispy pork belly and stir-fried shredded duck. Definitely walked it off.
Yum. One thing we really miss from Dallas is good Chinese food. Nashville is lacking.
Sabaray, at least you got a nice lunch! And you walked it off (as one TV character said, “Shopping is my cardio!”).
I feel like a total failure - BF is almost over, and I still have not bought a thing!
