Dmd77 - yes I saw the dcrainmaker 225 review but haven’t see any new reviews on the new 235. Supposedly the hr feature is different now?

dmd, this pretty helpful pull up for dummies guide was recommended by @acollegestudent :

Great article on pull up training BB. Covers all the territory well.

We were talking about resolutions this morning on our run; most of us felt the need for cleaner eating. Pull-ups did not make mention!

Super foggy here today and still warm; was misty but we got 9 miles. Very slow but today I’m okay with that.

Back on track (well for me, that is) today. Hour and a half gym/walk with DH. Will ignore the scale for a few days.

I have to admit to being glad that Christmas is over & I can get back to my normal eating & sleeping routine. 3 days of overeating - I’m feeling it today! A big salad is on the menu for later.

Happy Boxing Day, right?! (December 26)

MOWC, I loved your private prayer and gesture at your Christmas Eve service. I truly think of him often and wish you could convey to someone how much of an impact they made in your life. <3

Just tried on one of my gifts to myself - a pair of the Athleta Windwarrior tights I ordered at @fireandrain 's suggestions I think - LOVE them! They feel great and while I didn’t get out in them yet, the light fleece lining seems to feel like just the right amount. FYI, if your credit card is not maxed out, Athleta has an extra 20% off sale items for the next 3 days, code: EXTRA20.

Current temptation in the house: a beautiful, full tray of varied baklava from S’s fiance’s family. Oh man…

Oh, and was thinking about the “streak” idea this morning when I was walking pup. On the one hand, a streak is a challenge - on the other hand, I also realize that streaks get broken because of - well, life!

I’m not a NY’s resolution type person - never have been. But, since getting my Charge HR in September I do find myself religious about getting my personally determined minimum of steps. I actually was TOTALLY frustrated last night when I realized - just after midnight - that I might have been short on steps yesterday - and indeed I was right - for the first time since getting the wristband, I was short my daily goal - by about a measly 300 steps - BUT THOSE STEPS COUNT RIGHT?! I mean, I’m really bugged by this! If I had noticed I would have surely ran down the street or something! But at 12:10 am, a lost cause!

So, I feel like this is a “streak” important to me, motivating and both a challenge and a possibility. I may consider raising my quota again. Winter is definitely harder - with shorter days and less time to be out gardening and stuff, less steps happen. But, will mull this idea over the next few days.

Oh! One more thing! (see what happens when you don’t click on CC for a couple days?!) One of my stocking stuffers from my kids - a year membership to the local running club! I follow them on FB, etc. and they seem like a really great group of people - young and older, experienced and casual, faster and slower - perfect perhaps for me!

Vow to attend a meeting/function in 2016 and get more in the know about this group. Maybe volunteer at a couple of races etc. even if I’m not running them.

A dog walking streak, maybe? Dogs are perfect streak partners, abasket, because they need to be walked every day!

The dog walking streak is a given. We don’t have a fenced yard area so our dog gets walked 3-4 times a day ALWAYS. So, that is a given. And he is a corgi/beagle mix so while our walks are steps, they are steps of a very small trek - Ten steps, sniff. Ten steps, pee. Ten steps, sniff…

And as we know, from our most famous streaker, MOWC, sometimes streaks get broken, out of our control. Which means, get back on the horse and restart the streak when you are physically able!

abasket- that’s a cool gift of the running club membership! Streaking is a tough call. Even though it works for me, I know it isn’t for everyone. I think you have to be more than a little selfish sometimes to really keep it going. I manage that!

I ran 2 miles this morning just to get outside. I felt like with the rain and storms yesterday I barely got any fresh air. I did get caught in the 66 degree rain at the end of the run. I took the new Garmin 235 and thought I had mastered setting up the screens, but it turned out that I had messed up. I HATE new electronics! Anyway, I wasn’t sure it was even going to tell me when I hit a mile (although I pretty much know my courses), but it did. The HR reading function seems to work really well. When I got home I figured out the screens- it is not that obvious either from the online owner’s manual or DC Rainmaker’s blog how to change the number of readouts on a screen. I managed to get Screen 1 to 4, finally, but I’m not sure exactly how. I have time, distance, pace and HR on Screen 1. I think I have average pace, average HR and elevation on screen 2. I’m still playing with all that.

So I went out mid-day once the rain moved out in a muggy, 73 degrees and did 5 more miles. It didn’t feel great, since I still have a cold, but I did it. The path had a lot of mud since the river (stream) had overflowed. The Garmin worked well, but it wouldn’t sync with Garmin Connect when I finished. Turned out that Garmin Connect is down or mainly down due to heavy traffic. There is an online diagnostic that tells you that. So it isn’t me- it’s them.

My priest daughter brought all the sweets that her parishioners gave her to our house yesterday and LEFT THEM!!! Ugh.

Spent most of the day sitting in the car as traffic was tough getting home. I was not able to get any walking in yesterday or today and I don’t like this feeling at all.

The good news is that I now have a Fitbit.

^^^So exciting FallGirl! I think you’ll like having it - it’s sort of a friendly reminder that this fitness thing needs to happen in some shape or form - even just steps and movement - every day!

Even though it’s been pouring out since 3 or so, got some walking in earlier today and did a core workout video this evening. And, the steps + are in!!!

Been an interesting few stays of working out. Christmas Eve, I took an active recovery day and did 35 minutes of Bosu training and 35 minutes of stability ball. Christmas Day, I did 40 minutes of parallettes training followed by 30 minutes of weighted chin-ups, dips and horizontal TRX curls. Today, I did an hour of indoor cycling 'cause the weather was wet. And tomorrow I’m taking one of my daughter’s indoor cycling classes. Should be a lot of fun, especially since her fiancé is also taking it and has already thrown down the gauntlet by casually commenting at dinner tonight that he hopes I’ll be able to keep up with him.

MNKAT - Take him down!

ohio, it’s game on! If I let him get away with that now, he’ll be intolerable once they’re married ;).

Heading out to the half-marathon. Very cold out - our goody bags included mittens and a mylar blanket! I’ve got a couple layers on that will be “tossed” into the Goodwill bins along the way. Feeling Ready!!!

Good luck, Gertrude! Can’t wait to hear about it!

Sending good luck to Gertrude from across the country! Hope you have fun along the miles!!!
