Go Gertrude!
This weather is killing me. The horrible head cold isn’t helping. It was 73 and very humid for my run. I managed 4 miles, but went faster than I should (I seem to have lost the “take it easier” concept) and I felt horrible. It feels like going from Colorado to Miami in July or something. 34 plus for the week, though.
35 degrees and raining (what is hitting the deck looks like semi-frozen drops of water). Kiddo took over the home gym, so I will have to wait for my turn on the treadmill. Fingers crossed Gertrude’s race was a fun one!
Thanks all for the good wishes - they worked! I finished in 2:35, felt good the whole way, though increasingly tired in the later miles of course. Woo hoo - can’t believe I did it!!!
My family had planned to be at the finish line, but I overestimated my time & they got there about 10 min late. No biggie - still got big smiles & hugs. Now I will eat, sleep, repeat, for the remainder of the day!!
Excellent, Gertrude! I had no doubt you would do fine! Congratulations and enjoy the accomplishment!
Congratulations, Gertrude! What an awesome accomplishment to finish the year!
Way to go Gertrude, congrats!
Congrats to Gertrude! I still remember when you first came on here, wondering if you could run a mile, no less a 5K. And look at you, doing a half-marathon! How awesome is that?
Yup, I remember that too, as well as other awesome metamorphoses that happened here.
Ran on the treadmill. Cranked it up to 10 mph for a few seconds - wow, many moons ago I was able to run a 5K at these speeds?! Lol. Got it back down to a comfortable 8:30 pace. The Precor was pretty sturdy at 10 mph, no weird shaking or squeaking.
Gertrude, so so proud of you. Way to go!
Awesome job, Gertrude!
Congratulations, Gertrude! That has to be a great feeling.
Congratulations, Gertrude! You are an inspiration!
Ahhh, feeling all warm & fuzzy now. I actually said to my family on the way home from the race “I am a different person than I was this morning.” Its such a great feeling to set what seems like an audacious goal, then actually accomplish it. Thanks to all of you for seeing me through the C25K program, my hip injuries & each progressively longer race & training run! I’m ready to do some more in 2016!
With all the accomplishments in 2015, where’s this group gonna go in 2016! That would be one reality TV show I would watch!!
Great job, Gertrude! What a great way to end the year.
No exercise for me today–just got back from a long drive home (NC to MA).
Late to the party, but kudos and a big bravo to you Gertrude
I think I overdid it Saturday. After running in the am, D and I attended a Pilates mat class that afternoon. Those are really tough for me to begin with, but somehow we made it through. It was a “fun” class, so there were quite a few newbies but it was one of those “now let’s add on” type of things and I should have stopped trying to add on! I was very sore yesterday but and today is somewhat better, but walking 2 pups was a challenge this morning! No running today but am going to Barre tonight.
I need to think about resolutions. Last year I thought, I’m just going to keep doing what I’ve been doing - and for the most part I did. I think I’ve gone almost 4 years without fast food - D and I were talking and we think it’s either 3 or 4, I can’t recall. It’s a habit now. I need to be more consistent with my running if I’m going to improve and hopefully it will be easier this year. 2015 will stand in my memory as one of the worst years of my life so I’m looking forward to 2016. I’m so grateful for all the friendship and support I’ve received here. None of you are allowed to leave!
I think you did really well with your running this year, sabaray, considering the injury AND the wrist thing! Those were some pretty big hits.
Between still having a cold and this humid, hot weather, running is not fun. Managed 3.5 miles this morning. I"m loving the Garmin 235, though. Negatives and the really short connector/charging cable. It barely makes it from my computer to my desk at home. Garmin Connect (the app/program) had a lot of issues this past few days due to overload from everyone trying to sync up their new Christmas toys. There is actually a place where you can check the Garmin Connect status so I knew it wasn’t me not knowing how to work my watch! I like having 4 data screens on the watch again- the 220 only had 3 per screen. It is SO light and thin- even more so than the 220. I remember the early Garmins were like wearing a laptop on your wrist. It is really nice not to have a chest strap or even the Mio on my wrist- just the Garmin. The HR function seems very accurate.
^^Sounds like a really cool device!
Sabaray, I think many would agree with you that 2015 was a bit of a bust! All we can do is look forward and ahead and take control in the areas we CAN take control - which unfortunately, is not everywhere!
We still have family in the area, so are still enjoying “holidays”. The lights on the Christmas tree all went out last night - is that I sign that I should put Christmas away - and the cookies?! I actually can pass by the cookies, but we received an enormous tray of fresh varieties of baklava from a local place - that I cannot leave alone!
And truth be told (since I still have kids lounging here at home) I just finished baking a batch of homemade chocolate donuts - baked, not fried! There are only 6 and there are at least 3 of us eating them so I will limit myself to one. It’s currently sleeting outside and was 34 for my pup walk this morning.
I have managed - besides Christmas day to get hearty steps in and some sort of additional exercise be it a 3 mile run, 2 mile fast paced walk or a core workout video. Trying to be satisfied with that for this week at least.
