Nrdsb4 - glad you are ok. I had a similar mishap this summer. We should require a license to use the trails!
1 hour 30 minutes treadmill at 130-35 heart rate. Little upset at my garmin 235. 2 or 3 times it was spiking to 150s 160s HR.
MOWC - looking at Macmillan for online coaching but wondering if you could PM if you have other suggestions? Looking for someone to provide training for 800/1500 meters at masters elite level with goal of peaking in summer of 2017.
Ohio- MacMillan is probably a good choice. People have been happy with his programs. I don’t really have any other suggestions for those shorter distances. Sounds like a great plan!
On our local running group FB page people were talking yesterday about running treadmills, gym time limits, etc. They were discussing which gyms locally don’t put a time limit on your machine time - because some of these people are talking they want/need to spend 4 HOURS running on the treadmill - WHAT? Sounds like dying a slow death to me!
I think if you are training for a spring marathon, it’s more likely than not you might need all that treadmill time, particularly if you live in a wintry climate. I’ve seen people posting on FB that have been running in sub-zero windchill - to me that is insane.
Tough Pilates workout this morning - I know I say that every time! Now I really need to focus on my diet in a big way. I haven’t been very good about it, and any weight gain is settling around my middle and it is DEFINITELY not the look I’m going for! I have a training plan mapped out for the 10-miler I’m hoping to do - now I just need to remind myself to stick with it and not push for more. This weekend it’s time for a pair or two of new running shoes.
If someone is needing/wanting to run for 4 hours then they need to buy or rent their own treadmill, not take up that much time at a gym where others are waiting.
I guess I am fortunate - at our wellness center their busiest times are with the retirees during my work hours. Signs are posted on each piece of equipment to not exceed 30 minutes when others are waiting, and the longest you can go continuously on a treadmill is an hour without it going into cooldown mode and then shutting off. I have my own set of complaints about the retirees!
FallGirl - that’s why I got my home treadmill. Because I love to torture myself like that!
People hogging gym equipment suck. If I need to use a gym treadmill for a long period of time, I make sure it is during the times when no one is there. For example, I had no problems hogging the hotel treadmill in Maui for almost 3 hours mid-afternoon (when I needed to do a long run, and it was 85 degrees outside with no easily accessible running path. )
Remembering that Pizzagirl was talking about what to wear after/over gyms classes for errands…I see that Athleta has dropped the prices on their sale items again - some great deals here!!!
I love that skirt! I think I might have it. I have a puff skirt from Lulu and from SkirtSports, and I might have the Athleta one. You will love it.
We had a late basketball game last night and it was 20 degrees this morning. I’ve been doing some speedwork on the dreadmill (channeling my inner Ohiopublic) and I was tired. Just couldn’t face the cold. 2 miles on the dreadmill. More after work.
Nrdsb4, tell me to mind my own business, but were you checked out by a doctor? I’d wait to get back on the bike when I could lift that arm easily! Ouch. I have zero confidence on a bike. None whatsoever - I wish I felt more certain of myself!
God, I hope I didn’t tear anything in my shoulder. Soft tissue injuries can be worse than broken bones. If it doesn’t get better within a couple of days, I’ll get it checked out.
@Bromfield2, we don’t get snow often in Dallas. My dog was kind of uncooperative when I would take him out to do his business. I guess he didn’t like the feeling of the snow on his paws. Maybe I should gotten him some boots.
Check out this little dude seeing snow for the first time:
Speaking of hogging machines—my pet peeve is folks who will spend time at a weight machine and text----and look at you cross-eyed if you ask if they are finished.
I’ve been running 1-1 1/2 hours on the treadmill at the gym. If I see that all are being used I’ll get off and cut it short, but so far I’ve only had to do that one time. Usually plenty available to use at our fitness center.
Got to 10k steps yesterday. Paying for it today.
Anyone have feedback on Planet Fitness? They have a $10/mo special. Am looking for a gym with more equipment than cardiac rehab – namely, machines for hip flexibility and ab work. Will probably continue with cardiac rehab because I love the people and I can ask them techy questions without having to pay for a dr appt.
I think I joined PF in 2013 - when I really didn’t want to look awful at D’s graduation and was a member for about 18 months. I did the $10 deal - if you are a self-directed exerciser, it’s a great deal. If you need a trainer or regular support, probably not the best. They promote that they have free training sessions, but it wasn’t individual support - more like a group, and I didn’t have a great deal of confidence in the staff trainer. Ours was clean and well maintained.
