Rest day today. I did take a 3 mile walk but other than that, my body needed a break.
Just popping in to report in on the skiing. Finished day three today. Today was the first day with DS#1, his wife, and DH’s friend. The first 2 days were with DS#2 and his GF (and DH’s friend) She is relative newbie (but real trooper) on the slopes, and DH’s friend hadn’t skiied in several years, so we took it easier (not as fast, not as steep runs, and options of moguls and groomed slopes), though DH and I did a few runs by ourselves.
DS#1 and his wife are much faster, more aggressive skiiers, and keeping up with them, even when I took the less challenging side of a run, was not always easy, but I did it. Today my knees complained by the end of the day. And when I told everyone I was ready to take my last run, we inadvertently got on a very mogul-y black diamond run. That was not in my plan at the end of the day. With the fresh powder it was fine, but by the end of the day my knees were not happy. The good news is, all the prep beforehand seems to have paid off. My quads are fine!
I am getting braver on my treadmill and doing some real speedwork. I haven’t been flung off the back yet! 5 mile day.
Good job on getting outside in the cold, C3 and sabaray. If we have some pretty and non-slippery snow in the morning I want to get outside. It is supposed to be in the 20s. Everyone is freaking out here and schools are preparing to be closed. I really need to get to work tomorrow, but I won’t do anything dangerous.
24 inches!! Insanity.
I guess I get enough exposure to daylight while I walk to and from my bus (2-3 miles RT daily) so nighttime treadmill runs do not put me in a funk.
Frustrating day on the track with my Garmin 235. Wanted to get a true mileage pace off the treadmill and my MAF test. Didn’t succeed. The hr monitor was spiking from 121 to 132 to 160 in a matter of seconds and stay at 160 without in increase in pace. I have been really disappointed with the hr monitor the last two weeks. Looks as though I might be forced to go back to the strap. At this point I can’t recommend anyone buying a 235 until Garmin gets something more reliable.
I keep wondering if it is physiological differences that determine if it works. I know I have always had trouble locating a pulse and am wondering if that has anything to do with it. The garmin forum seems to indicate a 50/50 satisfaction rate. Seems like the only variable is a persons makeup?
Mine has worked really well. I occasionally record a higher reading to start- especially on a really cold, dry morning, but it settles down fast and there are no other issues. For me, the 235 works better than my Mio did.
Some hand weight work, 15 minutes of squat work and my 20 pushups - plus a healthy step count for the day!
Jym, glad you’re enjoying the skiing. Sounds like a really fun trip. Workout with my Pilates trainer tomorrow - I hope my legs hold up!
Three-mile walk today–hated the cold (it was in the low 20s at noontime). One of kids is home for two days so I went to a 90 minutes yoga class with her tonight. i’m always amazed at how different instructors make such a different in yoga practice. Still doing my pushups.
Stay warm and safe, everyone!
4 miles in 34 minutes on my Precor. Wanted to do more, but Mr. convinced me that he need to be fed some steamed broccoli and reheated Ubekibekibekistani pilaf (made it yesterday using a packet of spices from the Euro deli “For Authentic Pilaf”, so my pilaf must have been “authentic”
).
Thanks, sabaray. The fitbit doesnt seem to understand skiing (today it said 15k steps), but DS tracked something on the ski resort app and said we covered 24,436 vertical feet today.
I ran 15 minutes straight on the treadmill this AM - the most yet! I am definitely joining the training group in the spring.
I’m in the DC area, so will likely be snowed in this weekend. I’ll have plenty of time for the treadmill.
I think I’d change your prediction to being definitely snowed in this weekend, FG! We’re right on the line between 18-24 inches and 24+ inches.
Awesome workout this morning. Used the jumpboard with the reformer - so much fun.
FG, great job on the treadmill! Do you listen to music or watch tv while you are on it? I have got to the point where I mentally measure time with my music - 3 songs = 12 minutes or a mile + a little extra. I also watch the time, but the song counting helps me to NOT watch the clock!
Jym-glad you are enjoying the skiing and that your prep beforehand paid off!
We woke up to 4" of snow this morning so I’m glad I was able to run outside last night. 40 minutes of shoveling is probably it for formal exercise for me today. I’ll get plenty of walking in today, though, and the dog will be so happy for a long walk tonight. He loves the snow!
I havent been listening to music to tv, but I should.
I was so disappointed to wake up to find that I would NOT be going for a run in the new snow. It was sleet and ice and there are wrecks everywhere. I am going to venture out to work in a little bit (did 3.1 on the treadmill), but if it is too dangerous I will turn around.
Good job, fallgirl! I watch TV.
Yay fallgirl! I doubt I could do 15 minutes straight at this point!
I listen to songs - and then I play the same song over and over and act like I’m starting from zero. I know, it’s pathetic!
But there are certain songs that always get me going, so hey, if that’s what it takes.
I hit 100 miles run or walked in 2016 today! Also got this motivational gem:
“If you see me collapse on the course, please pause my watch.”
