Welcome to Fitbit world, BB
Boo to the blister, deb922.
I ran at the gym today, 6.5 on the treadmill. H and I walked 2 more in the rain. I have now advanced to baked salmon and peas in the soft food diet. Savory never tasted so good.

Wow, Plantmom, this is a lot of days you can’t eat!!!
Ohio, we all probably would benefit from remembering that a nice, long, good brisk walk is excellent exercise and worthy!
Romani, way to go on making lemonade out of 'em lemons! Get the most out of that sauna
Arrrgggh… Mr. mixed up our Fitbit inserts… I now need to figure out how to get the right code to create my account.
Hosted euchre last night, it was fun but I over ate.
I need to get back on track.
Up early again for a company-sponsored 5K. Just walking this one with some co-workers after my 10-mile run yesterday. My company is awesome - they just announced that they will sponsor any employee to do the San Diego Rock & Roll half or full marathon!
I had fun meeting with 5 other CC’ers yesterday. It was interesting, as we were complete strangers in one way, but had so much to talk about!! I look forward to doing it again!
That’s great, Gertrude. Our company does that for our Rock n Roll Marathon.
4.3 hilly miles here on the mountain for a 36 mile week. Heading home to my own bed today! I had to climb over a fence on my run because a back gate I use to get somewhere was padlocked. I didn’t fall, luckily.
^^Extra points for fence climbing.
Yesterday I took a long walk with the husband, and then ran for 4.3 miles – Friday was an hour of swimming (and no fire alarm, thank goodness, since it was snowing and cold). My back is still sore, so even though I’m supposed to do weights today, I’m passing – I’ll just take a long walk.
I filed a problem with Fitbit, that my step count is off by as much as 20% and it doesn’t register my heart rate during some strenuous exercise. The thing has been recalibrated and I’ll see how it works during today’s walk.
Last night I roasted a whole cauliflower following this recipe – www.nytimes.com/2016/01/06/dining/roasted-cauliflower-recipe-video.html?_r=0. I didn’t make the sauce, just sprinkled Parmesan cheese on top. My first attempt at cauliflower, and I really liked it!
I love cauliflower - I’ve been seeing some recipes for the buffalo cauliflower - which I think Sabaray mentioned. I’ll have to try it sometime.
Just got back from the grocery and my Super Bowl menu is now set. It includes Sabaray’s brussel sprouts, salad and some fruit - on THIS thread I won’t share the yummy but bad for you stuff - haha!
Yesterday morning was a 3 mile race and it was fun. H and I both placed 2nd in our age groups, but this was a training race and most of the people are pretty new to running. We had a good time. Once we got home, we did another 11 miles and that was a real struggle for me. I got it done, but was pretty wiped out the rest of the day. Earned enough calories that I thoroughly enjoyed dinner out at a fabulous Italian restaurant. I brought half my entree home and put it in the freezer for next weekend so that I could enjoy some amazing tiramisu for dessert.
Today is a low key day. This afternoon I’ll take the dog out for a 5 -6 mile walk. He loves long walks and this is a good day for it. No exciting Super Bowl plans for us, so no extra snacking will be happening.
Gertrude-glad you enjoyed the CC get-together.
Deb-how great that you were able to ski again! Bummer on the blister, that can be miserable.
MOWC-you are pretty amazing with your determination, climbing fences and all!
DaVinci Board and coffee w a girlfriend. One more week of work!!
How fun, Gertrude!
Walked to the grocery store today (3.6 round trip). Carried a 12 lb bag of groceries home. Holy moley, if you want to know what a drag an extra 10 lbs is on your body, walk a few miles with that kind of load! I was dragging my sorry butt by the time I got home. Fresh motivation. I need it. (and how I dragged around an extra 100 lbs is beyond my comprehension…)
Every time I get on my Airdyne, I think of Idad. Miss him.
Amen, CD. I think of idad every time I grill steaks, steam broccoli, make bussel sprouts, etc.
Mr. B has been dragging his 35 pound kettlebell up and down the stairs without missing a trip for 2 days now. He says it motivates him to move his body and mind what he eats.
Installed my Fitbit! Yay.
Uh oh… my fingers are starting to get sore from holding my books for so long (by that I mean less than an hour). I started noticing finger joint soreness/stiffness when driving long distances and just figured I was holding them in one place for too long.
I’m a professional student. This is not what I need. I already have to take rests after reading for only a half hour or so or else I start to fall asleep.
Guess it’s time to invest in some kind of book holder (any suggestions?) or switch over to ebooks exclusively. I used to work at the library for the blind and physically handicapped so I know talking books are an option but they’re not especially convenient for monographs.
Two of my professors offered to connect me with scholars they know both at U of M and elsewhere who are battling Lupus and related ailments. I think it’s time to take them up on that offer and start connecting with people who have already learned coping strategies.
I know I’ve said this before but I truly cannot believe how lucky I am to have such a great network of support within my university. Those in my department- students, professors, advisors- have really created an incredible atmosphere of support and accommodation and I don’t know what I would do without that. It seems to me that there are very few work environments who firmly believe that your health should come first (maybe in rhetoric but not in actuality) and I happen to be in one of them.
Interesting article on ellipticals…
Mr. Sabaray and I went to the gym this morning - 4.6 miles on the treadmill, slower pace but on moderate incline. Mr. hit the elliptical. We came home, I made lunch, am now doing laundry, took the dogs out - while His Majesty is sitting on the couch waiting for his medal! Grumble.
The new Runner’s World profiled some of the amateurs who made it to the Olympic trials - one woman had a workout she called “Hell”. Warm up 3 miles, then run a series of 1 mile, 2 miles, 3 miles, 3 miles, 2 miles, 1 mile at marathon pace. Between each, run 1 mile 30 seconds slower than marathon pace. Cool down 1 mile. Evidently this teaches you to run on fatigued legs! No kidding!
^^Wow, that’s crazy!!!
Great job at the gym Sabaray - and getting all the household tasks done. This may not be what you’re alluding to, but just this morning I was thinking about a comment my H made to my brother and sister and law last night about retirement (H may retire this summer) - “All I want to do is sit home and have the opportunity to be bored!” - of course I don’t think he literally meant that but that was like nails on a chalkboard to me - oh no, I literally cannot live with someone who spends most of the day plopped in a chair, or without goals, or without aspirations! And I thought this morning, I wonder if H realizes sometimes how LITTLE he moves. I would SO like to hide a Fitbit on him someplace. I think he would be shocked to realize how little he moves!
Anyway, back to better things…
I’ve had a super productive day. Energy is something I don’t ever seem to not have. I just don’t really get “tired”. Two good pup walks and a 4 mile run. Starting to do my Super Bowl kitchen tasks.
PG, I was thinking you were probably getting close to being done! How do you feel about it???
I climbed the fence instead of just turning around because I wanted to run out to this beautiful overlook- it’s sort of a tradition. I’m just glad I didn’t land on my head!
Those are incredible workouts in RW, sabaray. I hadn’t read that yet. Back in the day (early 90s) when my CEO in Dallas who was a former SMU scholarship runner (in his 50s in the early 90s) was coaching me, he had us do ridiculous workouts. Someone said, "If you made it through the program without getting hurt you were the best in the state, but…odds weren’t good). We did 4 x 2 miles with 800 recovery and then the final workout before the marathon was 10 x 1 mile. This all happened before work! We ran to a private school track for about a 2 mile warm up, did the workout and then cooled down on the way home. For the 10 x 1 miles, we drove over there. One time my husband and I (with 2 little kids in our life) started the 10 x 1 miles, did the first one and looked at each other and didn’t think we could make another one. It was about 40 degrees and windy. We did one more and then quit. I then had to go to work and tell my CEO/coach that we quit the workout. I was so despondent that I called another guy who had coached my former corporate team and told him what workouts we had done and asked him if he thought we would make it through the marathon. He said, “You did WHAT? You now need to rest from now until the race!” We did, and we did pretty well in the race (Dallas White Rock Marathon) on a really tough day where a lot of people quit. We missed our time goals, but we each won gorgeous wood and turquoise belt buckles (top 100 men and top 50 women) that we still cherish. I could not even begin to do those workouts now. I think we did 12X400 with 200 rest at one point. It was awful.
Walk/run on the treadmill this AM and yoga this afternoon.
Also a trip to Athleta to buy running tights. Can I count that?
