Ohio- I also want to know about the AlterG. A few years ago my son could find no access at all to one in Philadelphia. I wonder if there are more around now. They cost a fortune, right?
And, yes, I am at a very low weight. I’ve done well this past year anyway (not sure why, since I am not the healthiest eater) but this morning I was about 2 pounds down. Appetite is not back, which isn’t a bad thing.
What a dreary, rainy, even stormy day we’ve had in the cloudy sunshine state today. I did a tiny walk this morning, but otherwise nothing more. I tackled a few more tricky windows from the inside for my mom, cooked some meals, but had a housebound kind of day. I’ll be joining the fitbit Cinderellas tonight to make it to my 10000 steps. Tomorrow I’m driving the long drive home to see DH for a few days, and then returning here for a part of next week. Lots of car time.
An AlterG costs around 20 grand! I buy a monthly pass either at the chiro or rehab clinic. There seem to be more now. If you go to AlterG dot com they have a location finder. I can get unlimited for $125 a month at my chiro or the rehab clinic close to my house sells a 10 visit 1hour pass for $125.
I’m pretty sure the Oregon Project uses it as part of their training once a week. It is a great training tool enabling you to run super fast for long distances without the pounding.
Careful out there everyone, this seems to be clumsiness day! I use a stability ball instead of a desk chair and today went to swivel to turn to my computer on a credenza and fell off the ball, lol. Luckily no injuries and better yet, no one in my office saw me do it. I would never be able to live that down :).
romani, haven’t you said that you pretty much wear the same pair of shoes all the time? If my memory is right – perhaps getting another pair with a really good tread might be a good investment. I’m very careful walking on ice/snow, because I want to avoid falls – but I also wear boots with really good traction, so I’m not slipping and sliding around.
Yoga and a couple of long walks today. 20,000+ steps! However, I had french fries for dinner – although I didn’t eat the huge bun that came with my turkey burger.
If you are going to up your walking, investing in a good pair of supportive sneakers is worth it. Especially with joint conditions where it is imperative to not overtax one area. Is there a store near you that offers specialized advice? I used to work in an athletic shoe store and it really is true - you want a show that works with (or corrects) your gait and provides stability,
Wow, who would have thought that those 20 push-ups in the morning and 20 in the evening would become as routine as brushing teeth?!
In other news, today was apparently a fall day. I too fell - off the Bosu ball making a loud thud, but the sleeping cats did not even twitch their ears. Thankfully, only my athletic ego was hurt.
LOL Michael and Bunsen. Let’s all try to stay upright today!
Agree about the shoes, Romani. Could help your knees and joints to get into some good cushion.
Pilates workout this morning - I’m always amazed at how much better I feel at the end!
We had just insane weather yesterday. I have a vivid childhood memory of going to a tornado shelter - that’s a roar you never forget and people here just don’t expect them or even know what to do. Happily, no tornadoes in my immediate area but wind and rain you would not believe.
10,000 steps is going to be hard today since Mr. Sabaray walked the dogs this morning and I have an evening event. Won’t be the first time I missed the goal.
I’m going to count it as a victory that I did not fall off of anything yesterday. Glad to hear that everyone’s injuries were relatively minor, bruised egos aside…
I had over 6K steps by 9:00am, partially thanks to a scheduling snafu this morning that had me going from the 4th floor to the 1st floor and back three times for a meeting that was booked with conference room conflicts. I was pretty out of breath by the time I called into the meeting. My boss said she was just trying to make sure I got my steps in for the day.
Tonight is a workout at the gym with my trainer.
BunsenBurner-congrats on your push-ups; it’s great that you have ingrained the habit so successfully. Your upper body muscles must be awesome!
Nah… My upper body is not that strong, even with all those pushups, but the pushups do keep arm “flaps and ailerons” in check.
I liked the article about breakfast posted by abasket a while back. I can’t function without breakfast, and always made sure everyone had something nutritious before running out of the door. Speaking of nutritious, I just had an amazing bowl of oatmeal. Oats patented by a collegiate gymnastics coach! Naturally, they are called Coach’s Oats (the patent has already expired). They taste like old-fashioned steel cut, but cook really fast. Added a handful of blueberries and washed it all down with some coffee. It looks like this is shaping up to be a gorgeous day. Sending virtual sunshine all of you affected by the winter mess. Hang in there!
So, as of today, I am completely bedridden. Last night I was walking around when my knee had an extremely sharp pain… so bad that I had to sit right down because I couldn’t put any pressure on it. It stayed through most of the night and is achey this morning.
I don’t think it’s related to the fall yesterday because I fell on the other leg… but it could be. I contacted my doctor and am waiting for a response about what to do. I can’t drive because of the pain, and even if I could the roads are still really, really bad due to the storm.
So I guess I’ll be really productive from bed today. I’m really frustrated over this broken body crap. I had to wake up my roommate last night to ask for water so I could take my meds (it seemed easier than trying to crawl to the kitchen). He’s got the day off so he’s taking care of me but I despise being dependent on people.
Sorry I just needed to vent. It always feels like 1 step forward and a catapult backwards. I know this isn’t how it works but I’m ready for my body to get over its temper tantrum.
Romani, I am sorry you are in pain. It is possible that while you were falling, your other knee got twisted or pulled in your body’s attempt to minimize impact from the fall. The pain from pulled muscles in bad enough on its own! Does icing it help in any way? I hope the weather will let you get to your doctor’s office to check it out soon.
I iced and heated and it didn’t help. Yes, it is possible that I twisted it (I’ve never had really delayed pain like that with a twist but I know that you always hurt more the next morning after an accident… maybe my body decided to push “morning” back a bit lol.) However, I also developed like a weird rash over the knee right before the pain started.
My Rheum was super quick about getting back to me and I have an appointment early tomorrow morning. Now to figure out how to get out there…
My living warming pad (the furchild) is laying next to my knee and that seems to be helping a little bit this morning. (Though she is not happy that I keep moving her OFF my leg ).
Sore sore sore today after running (100 lb weight!) 5 minute mile pace yesterday. MNKat just curious—what is the philosophy when you have delayed onset muscle soreness. Rest or get back on the horse and ride?
Sounds like the people on this board (and their bodies) need some spring to pick us back up and re-vitalize! Shoo away the ice, colds, flu, etc.!
Exercise today will be limited to shoveling and anything I do in the comfort of my living room tonight. There’s 2-3 inches of wet stuff out there - shoveled the deck and porches this morning while H did the snowblower but there might be a little more to do when I get home and H will be away - hello shovel!!!
