@romanigypsyeyes – DH was on chemo for his non-Hodgkins lymphoma years ago, and his immune system is still considered sub-par. One thing no one has mentioned is asking the people who are close to you to get whatever immunizations they can (flu, measles, etc.)–and you may want to check with your doctors about updating your own vaccinations as well.

Just spent a few minutes pacing the hall to get from 24901 to 25000+ steps. I feel stupid doing it, but I do it nonetheless.

Interesting article that suggests that tracking too much data can make activities less enjoyable… unless you have a purpose for tracking. http://www.theatlantic.com/technology/archive/2016/02/the-quantified-welp/470874/

I, of course, do have a purpose for tracking every step and every bite; it’s to make sure I eat exactly as much as I can… and still lose a little weight every week

Thanks dmd! That completely slipped my mind.

This is especially on my brain because both of the people I live with work with the germ factories known as children. I was constantly sick when I worked at an elementary school. X_X (Out of all our emojis, not one with a surgical mask? lol)

Beautiful morning - got in 5k and finished by running up the really steep hill by my house. Figured it would be good prep for an uphill finish. Walked the pups. Pilates this afternoon.

I try not to look at my Garmin when I’m running - mainly because I’m so uncoordinated I’m afraid I’ll fall if I look at it for even a second.

I did so badly on the eating front this weekend - we ate out Saturday and Sunday was just endless eating. I am heavier but my clothes are fitting the same, so I’m hoping some of the gain is muscle. I need to make time to get to the lab for a blood draw. Blech.

Got outside yesterday for a 5 mile run/walk - mostly walk. Lots of hills and my legs were sore, but the yin yoga class afterward helped.
Back on the treadmill today. And of course I plan to do the stair climb at work.

Interesting article, dmd77. I find all the data very motivating but at the same time I have friends who have abandoned their Fitbits because it made them feel guilty if they didn’t meet their goal or anxious if they had a day when it just wasn’t going to be feasible to meet the goal (long travel day, for example).

I have been battling stomach issues for the past couple days, no fun at all. Yesterday was a low key day but I did manage to get 20K steps thanks to a long walk with the dog in the afternoon. Tonight should be a tempo run, my least favorite kind of training.

sabaray-great job with the run this morning and conquering the hill. I do admire you morning exercise people!

I am not fully clear on the rules about posting you tube videos on CC (I thought at one time we weren’t suppose to, but then feel like I see them…delete this post if necessary mods!)

I shared once how doctors are using Fitbits as a way of getting young kids excited about moving (and teaching math skills in the process!). Well, this is a local family and church friend of ours - I knew that she and her family are often posting about their Fitbit “scores” and such for the last couple of years, but didn’t realize this was the motivating factor - her son has Prader Willi syndrome - a rare condition - the movement is very important to his health and survivor. This short video was made by him and his teen sister and entered in a local CommUNITY film contest to promote special needs kids, their struggles and their successes. Brings new light on the power of that little fitness tracker:

That is very cool, abasket. Definitely a great use of FitBit!

I managed to get outside before work (finally) for a short run- 2.8 miles. Will do more after work. I’m still pretty weak on anything close to a hill. My weight is even lower, which is surprising considering PF Chang’s last night, big dinner Saturday night and some girl scout cookies. I guess it is a delay from having the virus.

I’ve been really good with my Lenten discipline of no diet colas. I didn’t even take the “free pass” Sunday that my religious tradition seems to condone. I’ve also stuck to the “no candy” resolve with a minor slip at the trade show last Monday at our big sales meeting. I was grabbing pieces of candy at some of the booths having completely forgotten that I wasn’t supposed to be eating it!

Hi Deborah! So glad you stopped by to say hello!

“…now we’ve got a kettlebell on our stairs, too. Only a 15 pounder, though. But good idea, so thanks, BB.”

LOL, fireandrain. I passed your thanks to Mr. He still religiously drags his kettlebell up and down the stairs! For me, getting the 15-lb computer bag filled with papers to the top of the hill is sufficient.

I should do more with my kettleball. I’m afraid of dropping it on one of the cats, though!

No kidding, MOfWC! What is it about cats being drawn to their humans when the humans are doing weights? Every time I do something with my free weights, the cats are all over me! When I do my pushups, the tortie always tries to climb under me and sick her whiskers (or worse, her butt!) into my face!

Thanks @dmd77 - interesting article. I think I got in a phase where reaching my step count was just one more “have to” for the day & I just had too many “have to’s” on my plate.

Half-marathon #2 is coming up on March 13 - I’m excited for that! It’s the official San Diego Half Marathon, so we will have the “run of the city” so to speak - hitting all the picturesque areas. My running group will be the official pace team, so there will be tons of us out there!

I can imagine that race in San Diego to be BEAUTIFUL!!! ^^^^^

Good day today. Lots of running around to doctors appointments and then I’m making a four hour drive to see my parents.

So far very little pain. More like discomfort but nothing limiting.

Already at about the total step count I got to yesterday. Today is a good day

Gertrude- enjoy! I’ve done some races in San Diego and love running there. It’s been awhile, though.

Great day today - first day of “real” retirement after vacation!
Pilates at 7-8 am. Then grabbed coffee and walked around a beautiful neighborhood til 9:45 when I did a DaVinci Board class. It’s so pathetic that I’ve lived here 20 plus years and don’t know the neighborhoods, indie coffee shops, etc.
That ended at 10:30. Did a CorePower Yoga (CP1) from 12-1. Tonight have my burlesque dance class. Had my 10,000 steps in the bag super early! Taking advantage of chilly but sunny as snow is in the forecast.

Flow yoga class and dog walking (2.5 miles). Starting a puppy training class tonight.
Enjoy your race, Gertrude. I’m headed to San Francisco for a long weekend and will happy happy to leave the cold in New England.

I managed to get a 5 mile run in tonight. I didn’t do the tempo run I had planned - I was not feeling too well (battling stomach issues) so I gave myself a pass to just run an easy pace.

Bromfield-I hope the puppy was the star pupil in tonight’s class!

Nearly 20k steps with dance class! Part of the dance involves standing up in a chair, turning around and doing various moves (including one where you lie backwards so your head is close to the floor). I was afraid at first since I envisioned the chair toppling over and me hitting my head - but core work pays off!

Lol, Pizzagirl! My kid said that she was shocked that her Fitbit would regularly register 5 miles of “walking” every time she did karaoke at a dance club.

I discovered that vacuuming the house is not a high “Fitbit NPV” activity. The device registered only 50 steps or so when I was done with the entire 2,000 square feet! Guess vacuuming is much less healthy than Costco shopping.

Ok. I just heard the garage opener. Mr. must be cinderelling in the driveway.
