Oh my MK!!! Best of luck to your D! Is this earlier than planned? Hope all goes well Grandpa!!
@romanigypsyeyes I have no experience with your problem, and of course ask your doctor, but…for joint pain for me, nothing beats the sauna. In a place like Ann Arbor, there must be one you could use. Just a thought.
Wait…doesn’t everyone look/run like this? :)) I think I might resemble these remarks…except substitute female for male!
I always feel sorry for the newbies in yoga where are wearing cotton t shirt and sweatpants. It’s only moderately heated to 85 but they are sweating bullets!
Sabaray, yes, but the main question is: do you feel that way? Sometimes, I feel like a gazelle only to find out that I look like a stray cow in my race photos, and vice versa. I bank the feeling and save a few $ by not buying the pics.
I got pictures from my first marathon at the insistence of Mr. Sabaray - I’m sure he thought it was going to be a one time thing! Some of them were doozies…shuffling along!
No marathons to my name, but I did a 5K for our local United Way which I work with regularly - there was a photo of me that I knew was me doing my personal “labor and delivery” type breathing (blowing breaths out) - sure enough this is the photo they chose to use on the front of their webpage promoting the race for this year - and everyone in the community I work with was “fortunate” ( or should I say “exposed”) to have to see whenever they clicked on the homepage of United Way!
Love that, abasket!
I ran a race in November where the organizers put a few minutes of video on its Facebook page. I was crossing the finish line during this video. I looked horrible. I looked like I was in pain (I wasn’t) and my gait looked nothing like I thought it did or think it should. Good thing there’s not a mirror in front of me when I’m running or I might give this sport up.
Did a slow flow yoga class today and walked 3 miles, plus a long puppy walk (2 miles?). I’m trying to do more yoga to get ready for my yoga retreat. I am easily bored so it’s hard for me to keep doing the same thing everyday—I’m aiming for 5x a week next week. This week it’s 4x.
I have a runner’s story for all you runners. I think most of you will still remember this runner. Anyway–I was in the grocery store after yoga and a guy came bounding around the corner and nearly knocks me over with his cart. I was bending down to get an item on the bottom shelf. The poor guy stops before he runs into me and is horrified—he was falling all over himself apologizing, saying he wasn’t paying attention, etc. I told him I was fine.
After he went on, I kept thinking that he really looked familiar. At the checkout counter, it dawned on me–the guy was Bill Rogers. If you don’t know–Boston Billy was a record breaking US marathoner back in the late 70s and early 80s. Almost anyone who’s been in Boston knows who he is (even if you don’t run)—I googled him when I got home and it turns out he lives in the town right next door to me.
Bill Rodgers! One of the nicest guys! Back in 1979, there was a Bill Rodgers 10K Road Race to celebrate his birthday, put on by a group of people from the Greater Boston Track Club (I was a member at the time). It was hot and humid and Bill showed up to run. But he dropped out from the heat, and when I finished (in a time that remains my PR for the distance), there he was, congratulating all the finishers for having beaten him. When I expressed surprise over my time (“wow, the course must have been short!”), he said “I thought it was long.” It was only 37 years ago but I still feel good when I think about it!
Very cool. Incredible coincidence. I was speaking with Bill Rodgers on Saturday. He was here in town to speak at the dinner before the race I ran. I met him in the 80s in Dallas and have a picture from back then. I got another picture taken with him this past Saturday. He’s an incredible guy. He has aged a lot, which I don’t understand, since I haven’t aged at all! Boston Billy.
^^^What great stories and coincidence - incredible indeed!!!
Regarding the finish line, I have yet to approach the finish line - even in a 5k where I am feeling gleeful and floating on air like all the pictures/video I seem to have seen prior to running! No matter what, no matter when, I always see that finish line and feel like I CANNOT wait to get through it!
Yesterday, I went whole hog and did - weights, OrangeTheory, 2 hr bike ride w spouse and then yoga. Today, my body said enough! Ran some errands but the only exercise on my agenda is fluid running tonight! I seem to ether really want to be active, or to go full slug! I don’t hurt at all but I just don’t want to move! Currently lying on my bed wth iPad figuring I have 2.5 hours before the fluid running …
Feeling a little better today. I walked about 1,000 steps before the pain stopped me. The weather is once again gorgeous and I’m hanging out by an open window
I received information today about the infusions that I’m going to undergo starting next week. It’s an immunosuppresant and the paperwork was basically a very long list of warnings. I can’t be around people who have received a live vaccine, who are sick, I must go to the doctor if I show any signs of illness or infection, and so on.
I’m actually starting to get really nervous. I’m sure everything will be fine, but I’m scared.
Pizzagirl, your body is wise. Glad you listened to it! Actually, a dip in nice warm water might to it good.
Romani, good luck, you will be fine. We will be holding your hand with our collective virtual hand while you will be undergoing the procedure.
6 miles @7:50 pace. Had to get outside before the rain and cold come back. I’m starting to visualize a warmer climate as I get older. Maybe I should check my horoscope.
Romani, I hope you do as well on your immunosuppressant as my H has. It’s given him back his life, seriously. He isn’t that careful and he hasn’t had much trouble with viruses.
Going to the doctor tomorrow about my foot. I tried to take a walk on Monday and was hurting 1/2 mile in. This is for the birds. Really hoping for a cortisone shot, I really think it’s just inflammation.
Yep, sounds like it’s time to see a doc Deb - that foot has had you down for awhile!
Speedy, Ohio!
Good luck at the doctor’s tomorrow, deb922.
After reading in the weather section of the paper that a temp of 79 was expected by the end of morning morning, I got ready in a hurry and ran 7 miles (my pace, 11 min m). I was saved from the forecast warm-up by clouds and a mild breeze, but Spring is definitely here. I was showered with a lot of old live oak leaves as I ran.
