Diet/Exercise/Health/Wellness Support Thread

Thanks for the well wishes. I am not a sit around the pool person. We are an active family, I was planning on running, renting bikes and taking long walks on the beach on vacation. I’m pretty sure that’s what the other people in my family plan on doing and I’ll be sitting by the pool in the shade. It will be fun I know, just different than I thought. I was really planning on exercising to mitigate the fruity drinks and fatty food I planned on consuming. Now I’ll have to try and not gain a ton of weight.

I know that sounded pathetic but hey it’s still vacation and it will be warm. So I’m happy to get away.

And yes you can get a stress fracture by just running. I did this XC skiing. I think I overdid it and also got bad blisters which when I googled stress fractures, it said those were reasons. The doctor did say that I needed to get a bone density test and to up my vitamin D and calcium. It also said that stress fractures were more common in the winter due to less vitamin D.

Deb, that is such a bummer! But - vacation is vacation and I hope you find a way to enjoy it.

MOWC - other than strange, what did you think of those shoes? I like the flyknit uppers but the styles offered have never really worked for me.

Getting old is not for sissies.

Good thoughts to all who are dealing with injuries, and huge congratulations to Grandpa Michael!

Deb, maybe you will find that that boot will help stabilize your foot enough for at least shorter or slower walks on the beach! Color me dumb, but will biking be totally out???

Do what you can, when you can. And you know what? Enjoy those fruity drinks and good food and time with your family. This setback is not forever and you will be back on the fitness train again soon!

MOWC I looked up your funky shoes - so what exactly is the material around the ankle? Is it stiff or soft - like a sock?

Everyone be careful out there!!

It’s very soft like a stretchy sock. It’s very comfortable. The shoe is soft and pretty minimalist, but has good cushioning. It isn’t zero drop, but it doesn’t feel like a high drop shoe (difference between heel and toe and the ground) at all. I really like the Flyknit material but like sabaray said, the styles have not always been great in terms of the rest of the technology.

Thanks, MOfWC! I tried a version of the flyknit uppers shoe and was not thrilled with the rest of the shoe design. Maybe I will give them another chance.

So do you think there is a physical purpose to the stretchy sock part? Does it keep the ankle more stable or something??

It eliminates any rubbing or sloppiness from the normal collar and lacing system.

This looks better than the first version which I tried awhile ago!

I have a pair of beach/water slip on water shoes, probably cost about $10. Every time I put these things on I want to try them for running. I may try them on at the track some day, but I don’t think I will try running in them on the road, but they are extremely comfortable! I tried running in a pair of xero /sandal/ shoes and they didn’t work for me.

I’m feeling pretty good today  I’m going to be really ambitious and go for 5,500 steps today!!

My yellow Epics are so cool looking. Good colors on Nike site. Not as many in stores.

Not sure how FitBit thinks I have 7 flights. My biggest elevation change has been getting out of my beach chair!

Lunchtime yoga. Warmed up to it a LITTLE better today. Now eating a cucumber/tomato/pepper/feta salad and some leftover quinoa and kale with sun dried tomato pesto. S invited us to go out with him and his fiance for some fried perch po’boys tonight - so there’s that! I’ll probably get mine minus the bread - sandwich bread usually does nothing for me…even if it’s good - I guess I’d just rather have it on the side with a big dollop of butter!

I received information today about the infusions that I’m going to undergo starting next week. It’s an immunosuppresant and the paperwork was basically a very long list of warnings. I can’t be around people who have received a live vaccine, who are sick, I must go to the doctor if I show any signs of illness or infection, and so on.

Do you have a current/recent TB tine test?

I had a good workout with my trainer last night. This morning was a short run/walk with Back on My Feet. I only did 2.3 miles because I chose to go with a run/walk group this morning. It was a good experience meeting some different people.

Tonight is dinner at some friends house with our group of old friends. He is a fabulous cook and I’m sure I haven’t saved enough calories to cover the meal, let alone what will undoubtably be a fabulous dessert. Ah well, tomorrow morning is a long run.

MOWC - I hope you are enjoying that beach chair!

abasket - I just tried the Costco quinao and kale for the first time a couple months ago and I am a huge fan! Adding the sun dried tomato pesto sounds great!

I have seen Meb on commercials on ESPN this week!

Third yoga session this week–power class taught by my favorite instructor. I’m going to work with her one-on-one for a few sessions before I go to my yoga retreat. She knows the instructor (and has taken her classes) who organized the retreat trip so she can help me with modifications. It is a beautiful day in MA (after several rainy days) and I need to get in a walk to meet my 10K step goal today.

Deb–enjoy your vacation–sorry about your foot. Hope everyone else with injuries mends quickly.

Today am just taking it easy with Pilates this morning and a lot of walking. Tomorrow I have weights, then yoga.

I had the weirdest thing today, though. After Pilates, I was getting my car washed and just walking around a little downtown area. And I had this craving for a meatball sandwich. Like intense! So … I broke down and had one from a little deli nearby. It’s pretty much all I can eat for the day as it’s a gazillion WW points, but I just had to have it! It’s not even a particularly favorite food of mine!

I bet you were having a protein craving!
