Glad you are ok, plantmom.
Go Bunsen- 55 floors and the pushups!

Ouch, Plantmom. I can’t imagine. I switched to daily wear contacts recently. I like them a lot and don’t have to mess with solution anymore but… One contact tore as I was taking it out and that was painful. I could not get it out, thankfully it was during office hours and the office was able to. The doctor even came in and checked my eye out, no damage but it was not fun.
I am not doing any exercise right now. Trying to get my foot healed and I have a bad cold. Probably ok I have this cold as I really need to get this foot healed so I can do something.
We are getting a major snow storm today and tomorrow. Not looking forward to navigating the snow with this boot. The funny thing is that my favorite XC ski place is sending emails left and right, gleeful with the thought of skiing. They are so funny, but I would be there if it wasn’t for this foot.
If I had to break my foot, March is the best month for it. In between skiing and warm weather. Trying to find the silver lining.
The idea of a major snowstorm does NOT sound good to me!
Hope you can get through this patch of healing and sniffles soon Deb922.
Feel better, deb!
I am taking a sick day today, though I’m not sick. I am stacking Dr appointments for checkups and such maintenance.
Took a 4 mile walk (some running) as well as a dog walk this AM.
Sounds like some rest is just what you need, Deb. I hope you are better soon and can get back to enjoying your regular activities.
3.2 hill run this morning, very slow but improving. Weight is down three pounds - almost done with tapering off the medication. I need to plan something for Easter - my mother wants to go out but I would rather cook. Not sure if she doesn’t like my cooking or if she’s trying to be helpful! :-/
First time running in 2 weeks – 5.1 miles. Except for some twinges in my foot, I’m pretty sure all is well.
I’m not sure I realized how many of us here have Fitbits! When I first got mine (Charge HR), I was somewhat confused by the dongle that came with it, i.e. that little gizmo that plus into my computer. I have the app on my iPhone, and am on a Mac laptop. It sure seemed to me as if everything was syncing with no problems, but then I’d read something that seems to indicate I needed to use the dongle. I finally posted on the Fitbit Forum, asking for clarification. Answer: I don’t need it since all my devices were syncing via bluetooth. Here’s another instance where it seems as if Fitbit could have done a better job explaining things. But, in general, I’m happy with it.
Healing mojo to all in need. All the snow from the other day is gone. Hopefully we’re truly done for this winter season.
I’ll admit I wasn’t fully sure what that tiny dongle was for @CBBBlinker !!!
MOWC, what is your review on the new model Alta??? (or anyone else who has it!)
I use that thingy with my computer because is not Bluetooth-enabled - and because I do not have the iPhone app. I am holding off upgrading my gizmos for as long as I can.
I like the Alta. I do miss the stair count, but I didn’t really go out of my way for stairs anyway, so I can live. The lower profile (slimmer, prettier) is nice- and being able to change out the bands will be nice. The clasp is very secure- i.e. I fight with it to get it latched because it requires some strength- but it won’t come undone easily! In bright son it is hard to read the display, but I can live with that. I like the vibration when you’ve been sitting too long. Seems to sync with my phone quickly and well. Gets phone call alerts well.
I have to admit I love the phone call alerts - a perk I didn’t concentrate on when deciding on a model but now really appreciate.
I had a good 8 mile run last night. There’s nothing like a good run that feels great to build confidence! Tonight will be a shorter run (probably 4-5 miles) as this weekend will be a long run.
I love my new Fitbit Blaze. The call, text, and calendar alerts are great. I’ve never had problems syncing with any of my Fitbits (I have the old Force and a Surge as well). Sorry that so many of you are having difficulties.
deb922 - sorry to hear about the cold on top of the broken foot. That is just plain bad luck! I hope you’re able to rest to get over the cold and help your foot heal.
Plantmom - wow, how awful for your eyes! I’m glad there is no permanent damage. I hope your eyes are feeling better now.
If I hadn’t bought the HR Charge 4 months ago, I’d get the Blaze. I know I could resell somewhere, but that’s something I don’t like doing. Too much effort.
Yoga today and lots of walking.
DaVinci Board this morning; yoga just now and then Fluid Running tonight, which really means “soak in the hot tub for half an hour first”
6 miles tonight. Thought of every reason not to run tonight. Guilt won.
Thanks everybody. My eye feels much better today. The prescribed eye drops have a steroid which has worked wonders on the inflammation–it’s only very rosy looking today–way better than scarlet!
I ran this morning outside. 7.75 slow but steady miles. It was just 70 degrees when I finished. More window washing and later, walking with the husband.
Ok, reviewing my Fitbit and my body (getting in a bathing suit will do that to you!) here’s what I’m finding after a couple of weeks of this exercise regime: (basically 2-3 classes a day - lots of variety - plus 10,000 step goal and of course watching food)
The good:
The bad:
Related to this, my trainer said he doesn’t really want me focused on a weight goal - that because I gain muscle easily, I will always be at the upper end of any weight range. (I am one of those who weighs a lot more than I look.) He would rather have me undergo a true body fat composition test and set a goal that way. Thoughts/perspectives?
Knowing all this ^^^^ and also knowing that you don’t like cooking - and you’ve said that you’re not into food that much -I have to wonder what food tracking would show you. I would think that would be another area to really look at. Use your time between classes to track all your intake!
@Pizzagirl, given your training regimen, I agree that a body fat composition test will have much more relevance and utility for you than a number on your scale. The platinum standard for that is either a water immersion test or a Dexascan but both can be hard to find and can be pricey. Oftentimes, you can find those type of testing labs at an area university with a good exercise physiology program. The next best test is ultrasound which can often be found at high end training studios and gyms (the equipment is very affordable for a facility). Body Metrix makes units for both home and commercial use (I have a home unit that I use with my clients.) if you decide to do the test and use ultrasound, make sure the person doing it is experienced in its use; it can take awhile to become proficient in the technique. One of the cool things about ultrasound is that in addition to giving you overall fat %, you can measure visceral fat which is the non-cosmetic fat that presents the real health risks.
With all the working out you are doing, I’m not surprised you are sleepy during the day. If you are not getting 7-8 hrs of sleep per night, you are running on a deficit! Also, you could be craving carbs because your body needs more than you eating. Carbs are the fuel for training and exercise and also help prevent your body from using lean muscle tissue for energy needs. If you are trying to eat low, you are likely not meeting your needs. I’ve posted this before but here’s a good article on carb needs depending on your activity level. http://www.jtsstrength.com/articles/2016/01/04/carbs-the-training-fuel/
Do it, PG. I think we are built the same. I look trim, but weigh more than I seem to (5’7 145 but 18-19% body fat) . (The kids say I am “dense” haha on the double meaning.) You will see if there is much fat left to lose.
It took me awhile to see myself as other people saw me. I was too focused on the number on the scale and wanting to move it down ten pounds. Other people said I looked “lean” “fit” “trim.” No one said "thin"and that was the word I wanted to hear.
I had a good 5.6 mile run last night. Tonight is a workout at the gym with my trainer. I need to convince him to just do upper body and core because I’m doing my long run tomorrow morning. We’re heading to St. Louis to visit our son for Easter over the weekend so I need to get the long run out of the way tomorrow morning. I’m sure my trainer will be agreeable.
Pizzagirl - I don’t think that acknowledging your body structure is a cop out at all. At this point in life, you know how you’re built. If you’ve always had broad muscular shoulders, nothing is going to change that. It sounds as if you are seeing a lot of positives and benefits from your new schedule. I hope your stress level is way down now that you aren’t working anymore.
Plantmom - so glad to hear that your eye is doing better!
