Yay, sabadog! My old guy is overweight, but he’s going on 13 and happy, so I’m not going to sweat it. He really eats normally and gets a walk every day. The girl dog needs to put on a few pounds.
3.1 miles this am. I did NOT want to get out there, but I did. It is Wellness Week here at work and we have all sorts of activities, health screenings, a 5K tomorrow afternoon, a spin class outside in the parking lot and fresh fruit in the lunchroom.
Ahhh… Nothing sounds like spring like a woodpecker banging his head on a metal pole! That was my wake up call this morning.
Michael, I do my pushups with my feet on the bed. For some reason, I find them easier to do this way than in a “standard” pushup position. I guess my muscles got used to doing them this way!
Finally got out for a walk, 3.5 miles. I went for my annual physical yesterday and the doctor was very pleased. All of my numbers are really good and my weight has been very consistent for the 5 years I’ve seen him.
The doctor is a runner and he didn’t seem to think that my stress fracture was anything to worry about, bone density wise. He said it was an overuse injury, not osteoporosis related. He was on board that I wait the full 6-8 weeks before running. I’m guess I’ll be doing couch to 5k when this is healed.
@PlantMom, I’m also dealing with a broken-hearted kid. She’s picking up the pieces but it’s been difficult. It’s hard for all of us, he’s a nice guy just not for her and it’s very sad.
Anyways, I haven’t completely decided but I might be taking a bit of a cc break. Maybe it’s because I’ve been injured and haven’t been able to exercise. But I’ve been really bothered by the why don’t you exercise thread. I shouldn’t get upset but so much animosity. I don’t understand why. But maybe it’s just one poster.
I’ll be walking and hopefully golfing by the end of the week. Woo hoo!
I hope you stick around on our thread, Deb, but I hear you. Internet forums shouldn’t be that aggravating and disturbing, but one angry person can do that, unfortunately. If it wasn’t for this thread and all you wonderful folks here, I might drop CC. I seem to have a stalker who wants to attack me regularly…
Deb, I’m glad you got a good report from the doc. I also bet that you will pick up whatever exercise back quicker than you think. Your skiing (and the golf) - and your bike when you can get on it! - will all help along.
I am sorry the thread that I started has caused problems. I do think there is a lot of good discussion on it as well. There goes abasket again…getting all controversial!!!
Just stay on THIS thread and take a break from others.
I would hate to see you leave us, Deb but I understand - I have been there too. I’m glad this thread has remained so positive. I think CC in general has gotten far more negative, which is too bad. I just don’t have time for the “can’t, won’t, won’t even try” type of person. The sniping just gets to you after a while. Hope you can get back to golfing!
Bunsen, maybe we should make you do the standard pushups for some challenge! Or some of Michael’s other variations which I can’t even visualize.
“He was on board that I wait the full 6-8 weeks before running. I’m guess I’ll be doing couch to 5k when this is healed.”
@deb922 - I bet you will be able to pick up where you left - easily! Don’t get discouraged. Sometimes, a good rest is what is needed for a certain thing to heal. I was a complete mess when I wrecked my knee because I thought I would never be able to go back to normal. Fast forward 10 weeks, and I was back training for another race. Meanwhile, enjoy golf etc. and pop in here to say hi and report about your golfing adventures.
Deb- I also think you will come back just fine. I know it is discouraging, though. It’s part of exercise, unfortunately. II was on crutches for a month starting in June 2014. It was rough, and it took me some time after that before I was allowed to run. It was hard for a few days, but then I gradually built back up without much trouble.
Met with the Lupus specialist today. Extremely nice, extremely thorough. I feel like I’m in very good hands.
He thinks I have some mix of RA, Lupus, and Fibromyalgia but also said that the official diagnosis isn’t all that important. He wants to run some more blood work because my liver gave back some weird results and he wants to look at a few other things.
The good news: I GET TO TAPER DOWN ON PREDNISONE! Not off completely but going down to 1/3 of my current dose. Best news I’ve gotten in weeks! He said the tapering process will be very rough so it’s going to be slow going, but he’s worried about my weight just like I am.
I was also told to start swimming again. He said it’s going to hurt for the first few months but to just go slowly but persistently.
Good news, Romani - glad to hear that you are comfortable with your physician.
Beautiful day here today as well - in first world problems, I forgot to put on my fitbit this morning when walking the dogs so missed a lot of steps! I went to two classes this afternoon - TRX and Barre. Then I took a short walk to get those blasted 10,000 steps in.
In between classes I was thumbing through a book at the studio about yoga and depression. It was actually something I thought I might enjoy reading. The yoga it would involve is a different story - I don’t know why I just can’t get excited about it. I want something that’s more relaxation/calming and most of the classes that I could go to with my schedule are what I would term “athletic”. The flows are just really difficult for me.
^ do you remember what the book was, I would be interested in reading it.
Sunrise yoga turned out to be Surprise yoga today. We had a sub - the “toughest” teacher in the studio and she put us through a very different series of poses than what I am used to. But the good thing was that I really, really had to pay close attention to follow and I did.
Took a break at work and got out and walked in the beautiful weather and then took a walk around the neighborhood with H and the dog.
I just finished tapering off an anti-depressant for situational anxiety and depression, but don’t know that I have developed tools that will help me maintain a positive focus going forward - I actually think some of the mediation/thought aspects of yoga might be helpful for me. Exercising myself into exhaustion doesn’t seem to be doing the trick!
sabaray- One of the good things about hot yoga is that it has a large meditative component and really is good mentally. The negative, of course, is that the heat almost kills you! Also- scheduling… I really did think it struck a good balance between challenging and mental benefits. It is NOT a flow class (at least the Bikram style isn’t).
Scheduling is the tough part - the studio I had gone to previously closed and then reopened and are operating on a greatly reduced schedule. I did like it when I could attend - perhaps I’ll try and squeeze a class in on Sunday. The only other options are a silent at 6 am some days or 8:30 am (that’s a big no) or 6 pm.
Thanks everyone for your kind words on the kid and his heartache. My heart breaks for him. How do you reassure them that they, still so young, will be able to move on? There’s no blame, she’s a lovely young woman. It just wasn’t meant to be.
Deb, glad to see you’re feeling better. Please stay.
I took a long walk this morning and a medium one tonight. Lots of sunshine therapy when I was out. I exercise so I will be able to do this for many years to come.
