Diet/Exercise/Health/Wellness Support Thread

Deb, thoughts for your BIL.

MOWC, I am pretty sure this was her first marathon so didn’t have a real good idea of what her time would be. She plays competitive ultimate frisbee and does ocean distance swimming (I think she should start doing tri!), so she’s in great shape and runs for fitness. She was running for charity, but I hope she has stumbled upon another lifetime activity!

sabaray - I’m coming over for dinner.

Second night of running program and I am loving it. Our speaker (hilarious) talked about running/walking form and what was great was that she gave some practical tips on thinking about how you are moving. On the run/walk (which was longer this week) I found myself checking in occasionally making sure I shortened my stride on hills, keeping knees up, etc. Met a few more people. I am so lucky that I live where I can take advantage of this.

Going outside before work to take advantage of a beautiful morning. Supposed to rain later so I’ll go to yoga tonight.

How far do you think they have the group going on the run/walk for @FallGirl ? I love that they team up the exercise with a speaker!

Our workouts are 3 miles long because the goal of the training (not required) is to complete a 5k in June.

Ooh, may I be the plus one for the risotto dinner, sabaray ? Do you think that you’d be inspired to make the menu on your own, i.e. not buying the box and winging the recipes or just making your own version? Congrats on your 30/30 class milestone!

Michael, reading your posts is a mental gymnastic for me. I can’t keep up! Really impressive workout.'m

Fallgirl, what great support and like abasket, I love that the exercise is accompanied by a speaker.

It was a beautiful morning–in the upper 60’s–and I got out for a five mile run. It felt really good, and fitbit confirms that by showing a lower average heartrate. The device is actually behaving itself this week–no crashing app, no lost data. Yay.

I’ve actually been sort of disappointed that my Fitbit has been syncing since the last time I talked to the Fitbit rep. Dang it. We had it set up so that if I had anymore problems they would start the process for product replacement.

Any ideas how I can get it to error???

Of course, PlantMom! Better start driving now!

Some of the recipes I would likely try on my own, without the box. Risotto is a favorite at our house but my version takes forever to prepare - includes things like pancetta and roasted butternut squash. Pricey! Believe it or not, one of the reasons for purchasing the box was to reduce our expenses. I did a recent review of our finances and realized just how much we were eating out or buying pre-made food. I was also spending a lot on groceries that were frequently wasted because we were eating out instead. What seemed like a good idea on Saturday for dinner Wednesday - not always the case! This was so easy to prepare - no thought, no leftovers, no leftover ingredients - just seems like a good option for us.

I had a tough 5 mile run last night. It was 80 degrees and I am not used to running in the heat again. I was really fast the first 3 miles then just had to slow it down. Tonight is running club, so that will be a shorter and slower run. Followed by dinner at the local brewpub. I do like running club!

sabaray - thanks for the info on your Plated meal. So the prep and cooking time is about 40 minutes? It sounded really delicious. I hope the risotto is good tonight also.

abasket - haha, your Fitbit knows that it must behave now!

FallGirl - sounds as if you got some good tips on running form from your speaker. That’s great!

I have no words! If the facts as presented are true, this jerk of a gym manager needs to go:

https://www.yahoo.com/style/outfit-too-inappropriate-gym-000000647.html

Wow, how rude! How sad and pathetic, that that particular outfit would spark that reaction. I’d be furious.

Read the campus newspaper article linked - particularly the comments. W&L is extremely conservative - not far from where I live.

I think the outfit is cute!

That’s what I thought, too. It is not dangerous because it does not have loose fabric hanging, and the outfit covers most of her body, so no stupid MRSA arguments can be made here…

That’s ridiculous!

Quiet day today!

TRX class this afternoon - but I can now easily do tricep pushups with my feet in the straps. Yay! Walked the dogs this morning and again tonight.

Second box meal prepared - this one was just “okay”. It definitely took quite a bit longer than 40 minutes and I added extra cheese. There is plenty for Mr. Sabaray when he finally gets home and there would have been enough for everyone else to come too! Far more food than dinner for two. This was a recipe for a more experienced cook - I don’t know that a novice would have understood the art of stirring and adding broth to the rice - the recipe card did not explain that well, nor the importance of “toasting” the rice prior.

Time to clean the kitchen!

How crazy–the outfit is totally appropriate.

Had a 1 hour 20 minute workout with my trainer today–we spent the extra 20 minutes working on balance exercises. Balance is a big deal for me because I have one ankle (which I broke years ago) that still has a pin in it and is not very flexible. She showed me three exercises that I can do on my own. Did a quick 30 minutes on the Cyber arc machine after the training session.

Track night. 8x200s. 32-34 seconds. Bagged the planned 400s when I realized I’d be running against 20+ mph winds on the backstretch. Focused on form, high knee lift and striding.

Finally back to full strength - no more coughing! Did 1 hour of weights and 1 hour of fluid running to celebrate!
Back on plan.

Yay, Pizzagirl! Glad to hear you are back in action.

Throwing that young lady out of her college gym for what she was wearing was an ugly absurdity on so many levels. It was also reflective of a very creepy mindset about women held by the gym manager and those who were “bothered” by her exposed back. They probably would have had an apoplectic fit if she had also been wearing the Lulu tights with sheer patches on the sides of the upper legs. I wonder how they cope with the beach or swimming pool if they see a women in a two piece suit. Maybe they should just focus more on their own workouts instead of looking around the gym floor secretly leering at women.
