Diet/Exercise/Health/Wellness Support Thread

Thanks everyone - I actually do feel good about it. I had begun to refer to my workplace as “Crankytown” over the last few weeks because everyone was so stressed & I was starting to think about looking around anyway, so the timing is good.

Now to start researching shoes!

Deleted post after reading reviews on product I posted about.

Went to a Pilates mat class yesterday afternoon - not our regular instructor - I was glad to talk with some other students who thought it was exceptionally difficult. I wanted to tell her that every class does not need to be the hardest thing you’ve ever done! 50 minutes on the elliptical this morning…trying to be better with aerobic cross-training.

Last night’s dinner was from “the box” - Greek salad couscous. Very simple but very good. Couscous topped with crispy white beans, tomatoes, cucumber, feta, dill, kalamata olives and homemade vinaigrette. Ridiculously easy but of everything I’ve prepared so far I think I enjoyed this the most.

I don’t think the NY Time article is particularly new - it has been known that our bodies have a “set weight” that they try to get back to and that crash dieting impacts metabolism. But I did not know that the resting metabolic rate would fall that much. Of course, this is based on people that lost huge amounts of weight very quickly by exercising hours per day and eating very little. Maintenance is the toughest part of weight loss. I also wonder if the bad habits crept back in. I know that is what happens to me - lose 10 and gain it back.

I envy those that seem to stay at the same weight over time. I am hoping that having much less to lose means much less of a reduction in resting metabolic rate.

That sounds delicious Sabaray. I made a Greek chopped salad for my FDIL’s wedding shower this weekend - it was so good (and was completely gone) that I came home and made more of it that night at home!

A friend posted this recipe last night and I have to say I’m eager to try it: Cheesy Quinoa and Broccoli Patties:

Somehow your mention of couscous reminded me about this recipe!

Zuilly has hoka one one on sale today if anyone is interested.

3 mile run, it wasn’t pretty, but still…

It really helps with the stress. Which is through the roof right now.

I’ve been thinking about you Deb - very rough times I’m sure. Is this BIL from your local area???

I’m sorry Deb - thinking of you.

I’m sorry about the unexpected job situation, Gertrude, but I’m glad you’re able to look at the positives.

Thinking of you deb922.

We’ve been spending some time with one of my husband’s earliest childhood friends. I love how happy they are to be together; the feeling is no doubt amplified because of the distance separating them and the consequential infrequency of the reunions. It has been fun. Certainly the eating has been perhaps a tad too festive! I’ve picked and frozen what seems like a ton of blueberries this year. Dessert last night was a blueberry crisp with vanilla ice cream. Back to treat status all you delicious foods!

Yesterday morning I ran 5 miles–took it slow and easy. Today I did a bit of running with walking and met with a friend in time for a cooldown chat. It’s been up in the low 90’s with medium high humidity, making me feel very wilted outside. Last night we had summer-like thunderstorms, frequent lightning, and heavy rain. Very summery indeed.

This morning was cool and dry- after several days of rain. I did 4 miles since we are going to see Bonnie Raitt tonight and my evening run won’t happen.

Dear Fitbit, very soon we shall be reunited.

^^^You must feel so lost!? I mean, how many steps are you gaining - or missing!!!

I made sure that my runs went onto Mr.'s Fitbit.

Thinking about you, deb.

(hugs), Deb.

Checking back in. I’ve been sick for several days-not sure what’s going on but I’m getting worse despite antibiotics so I’m probably heading back in to the doctor tomorrow. And this was supposed to be a doctor-free week! :frowning: I’ve had pneumonia several times in my life and that feels like what is developing. I’m hoping I’m wrong!

I’m supposed to participate in a week-long mini course next week (ironically called Health & Humanities) that my advisor is running and where I know and love pretty much all of the other people in the course. I will be so sad if I can’t participate because I’m sick. It’s something I’ve really been looking forward to.

I have been taking it easy for the last few weeks now that I’m done going to classes with the hope that it would help me feel better but no such luck.

In general though, my pain is no longer systemic. It’s concentrated in one place (unfortunately it’s my low back/hips which makes walking difficult). I have still been able to exercise a bit in the hot tub. My pain is pretty much gone when I’m sitting in the hot tub so there’s that at least

Good luck Gertrude Mc–when life gives you lemons–you know the rest.

I’ve felt really sore since my fall–bruised knees/hands/face. Took the last two days as rest days. Going to go to the gym tomorrow. I need to get back in my routine.

i feel everyone’s support so loudly, thanks so much.

Tomorrow is the mass and life celebration. Both of my kids are coming. It will be a really hard day, but I’m thankful of the fact that we will be a family to support my sister and kids.

Thinking of you today, Deb.

My thoughts are with you and your family deb922
