Diet/Exercise/Health/Wellness Support Thread

Feel better, romani.

Healing thoughts and hugs for everyone who needs them - physically and emotionally.

The weather here has been ridiculous - rain, hail, thunder, lightning…really been playing havoc with my workouts. Busy day at work yesterday so didn’t make it to TRX or Barre, which I had hoped to do; this morning tried to start a hill workout on the treadmill but people kept coming over to talk so finally just went with a quick 3 miles, Reformer circuit class tonight, which I really enjoy and I am not missing because of work. Bad dinner last night - huge piece of cheese pizza and a bourbon and ginger which I am atoning for with yogurt and berries this morning.

Yes, sometimes life and weather gets in the way, for sure. Part of this whole journey is learning to work with “what you’re got”. And some days, it feels like there is not a lot to work with!

Sending out support to all. <3

I’ve been piecing together exercise the last couple of days - sometimes that’s the best I can do with time. Yesterday it was a mile walk a lunchtime, 2+ miles more before I made dinner, and some push ups before bed. It’s something!

Walk/run training last night and a good walk this AM.

Walked up the steps to my 11th floor office this and no longer need to stop!

@Bromfield2 - when life gives you lemons, make sure they’re Lulu

Yes, feel better Romani and do what you can do!

sabaray- better weather is coming your way. It was 46 degrees (broke out the tights and jacket) this morning- sunny and nice. More rain is coming, though. I had about 4 hours of sleep due to the Bonnie Raitt concert being late and throwing off my sleep completely.

I’ve been MIA due to a trip out to visit my daughter. We had a great time - lots of hiking, a good bike ride around Lake Washington, some running on hills I’m not used to, and plenty of good eating! It was a terrific visit and I’m glad to see her so happy and settled in her career. I’m a little sad, though, because it’s apparent that she is happy and thriving there and probably will never come back to the Midwest. Of course I want the best for her and am thrilled that she is doing so well.

deb922 - I’m very sorry for your loss. He was way too young and it’s so sad about his young kids. I’m glad that all of your family are able to be there for the services.

Gertrude - what a shock to find out about losing your job in that manner. I’m glad that you are feeling OK with this, it sounded as if your job had been pretty stressful recently. It’s great that you have plenty of time to figure out your next steps and a generous severance package to boot.

FallGirl - wow, 11 floors is a great workout!

sabaray - thanks for the updates on your Plated meals. Turns out my daughter and her boyfriend have been using Hello Fresh. They like it a lot. One night they made zucchini parmasean crusted chicken for dinner for us that was fabulous - it was a recipe they had from one of their boxes. That’s the real key to me - if you end up using the recipes again on your own. So I’m still toying with the idea of trying one of the meal box delivery services.

I am looking forward to that better weather, MOWC - looks like it will be a nice day here Saturday but still chances of rain until then.

Glad you had a good trip, C3Baker! I had not heard of Hello Fresh - and I am now looking at that too. The only problem I can see is that there are items from the veggie box that I would like but also items from the omnivore box I would like too. I wonder if you can mix and match boxes? It is also cheaper than Plated. Hmmm… I might need to do a comparison. Tonight’s dinner is a spicy chicken with brown rice and roasted broccolini - I hope it’s good.

Inspired by @sabaray, I went looking, and there’s a bunch of these meal services now - Plated, Hello Fresh, Home Chef, Blue Apron, Peach Dish, Purple Carrot (vegan). Some of these may be regional.

We also have local options in east MA such as Just Add Cooking. It’s worth googling to see if there are any local companies where you are.

There are also meal planning services like Lighter, which lets you plan customized meals with lots of options and then it generates a grocery list for you. This service seem to be free, I haven’t had a chance to try it yet.

Many of these plans ^^^^ offer discounts on initial packages. Be sure to search websites, apps and Groupon for special offers.

(I’ve never used them, but seem to see the advertisements for deals a lot!)

Thinking of you, deb. Hugs.

So as a happy follow-up. My bloodwork and physical exam indicate that my RA is most likely in remission  I have to continue with maintenance drugs but all of the joints that RA usually attacks are doing just fine and have been for several weeks.

Unfortunately, the Lupus isn’t in remission but if I can get one under control, it gives me a lot of hope for the other

That’s good news, Romani.

Popped into a Lulu store to get myself a pair of Align crops… Got out with another Rack Pack bra. Saw that the Stuff Your Bra bra is baaaack! the store only had white and peach colored ones, so I passed on those. Got a pair of shorts to go with my new bra. It is Zinfandel/light blue stripey one.

Yay, romani!

We were blasted awake with severe thunderstorm and hail warnings for our area this morning. The worst of the storms passed by, but outside of a small break in the activity during which I took a 3 mile walk, it’s been raining cats and dogs. H and I walked tonight with umbrellas, but we shortened our usual route since we were soaked and cold, even with the rain gear.

In other dreary news: I went in search of an inexpensive swimsuit at the local sporting goods store for an upcoming trip. I swear all of these garments were made for tiny teen bodies. All of them. Seriously, I was looking longingly at the men’s speedos nearby which looked to provide more coverage than the insufficient bottoms they carried for women. Back to the more expensive women’s wear for me. It seems there should be a line of clothing called NYDSS.

PlantMom, those fig leaves are a complete joke. I had good success finding “more substantial” swimsuit bottoms at Target for under $25.

Bunsen- I got the “what’s new” Lulu email last night and I saw the Stuff Your Bra was back. I checked online to see the difference between it and the Rack Pack. Apparently the Stuff Your Bra is aimed more at, um, smaller chests. They sure look pretty much the same to me! Did you get the crops?

I did!!! I wish they had more color options. I think the Stuff… bra is supposed to be more snug. I definitely could not see any difference in the fit.

I also got the Speed shorts in a very pretty lilac color with the waistband to match the bra. Do not see them online…

@PlantMom – if you know your size and the manufacturer, I’ve had really good luck doing extremely specific searches on Amazon for swimsuits. In my case, for example, I search for Speedo Flyback Size 38–and up pop a whole lot of suits that are the last ones in stock, with no others in that style. I get a new suit for around $30–and it would be $75 or so if not discounted. (I swim laps and the chlorine eats through suits in no time.)

Good news is always…good! Thanks for sharing Romani!

Swimsuits - another thing I tend to find at TJ Maxx! I prefer one-piece suits though!

Speedy quick (for me) 3 mile run tonight. Still waiting for the gloomy weather to go away!
