10 miles AlterG. 3 miles 5:00 pace/80% weight and 1 mile @5 min. pace/90% weight.
Saw the local 3rd graders run this afternoon. One boy ran a 5:33 mile! A girl ran a 6:20 mile. They’ll be my future masters competition when I’m 100.

Hi everyone. I’ve been on a break away on Captiva Island. Lots happening. Fortunately we’ve mixed in as much fun as we’ve been able. I’ve done a ton of beach walking and a bit of running. It’s so humid here, and warm. Yesterday I ran 4.5–half on the beach, half back on the road. Thank goodness for clouds! The sand hasn’t been very firm so it’s more intense running than I’m used to. The Target swimsuits are holding up well, passing the functionality test of swimming in the warm and wavy Gulf. Big event of the day: parasailing with my husband. Very cool!
Glad to hear that the Target swimsuits are not ruining your fun getaway!
Too hot and humid to do anything meaningful outdoors… 88 degrees. Yikes. Unfortunately, Mr. invited some folks for dinner, so I will not be able to kick off my training tonight when it gets cooler. Maybe it is a sign, because I finally went to see a doc about my general sluggishness. Mentioned the stomach pains, and of course they had to do the full appendicitis checklist. Thank dog they got the blood results back before they could drag me through that gawdawful CT scanner. All initial tests showed that I was healthy and peachy, but two days after the checkup got a call - the culture results finally “ripened”, so I got put on meds for a UTI. Sheesh.
Now, to add insult to the injury, my hip rebelled last night… If this is what old age looks like, just shoot me. Going to see a (apparently awesome) new ortho to rule out any nasty stuff. The doc apparently is into fitness and running and could see me fairly soon. Other than that, I am as healthy as they make 'em.
Sorry for making you all read through my rant!
I hope your hip is ok, Bunsen! I wonder if your SI joint is rotated out.
Yes, I am going to check it out. Mr. B, of course, said something about running too much… dodged the flying slipper. JK.
The funniest thing is that I always get some sort of crap going on when I am NOT running. LOL.
Ugh, BB. Hope the UTI and hip pain make their exit ASAP.
We had a lovely dinner tonight at a family friend’s home, finished off by eating a brownie and mint cc ice cream dessert, watching a baseball game on TV with their 95 yo mother, and walking home through a cloud of salt water mosquitoes chanting no zika, no zika.
Hope your hip resolves quickly and turns out to be nothing BB.
Boy did I kid myself thinking this forced down time would bean opportunity to get more sleep. I am going nuts from the inactivity and have been sleeping fitfully. I woke up 4 times last night between 2:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. But as soon as I start reading my nutrition certification materials today, no doubt I’ll immediately nod off :(. Tomorrow and a return to full activity can’t come soon enough!
Glad you’re getting your hip checked, Bunsen - and that your other ailments resolve quickly.
So jealous of the fun everyone is having - I feel so boring in comparison! Today’s assignment was a 2 hr run which included the 10 minute warmup and 10 minute cooldown. The Garmin 235 is awesome - gives me so much data but also shows how much I have to work on! In any event, got 10 miles in. It’s very hard for me to slow down at the beginning and the end, but I am really trying. It was a beautiful morning but we’re expecting more rain. Sigh. It’s even humid in the house.
5 cool beautiful miles in the Poconos. Off to Ocean City now.
Did a vinyasa yoga this morning!! Going to take the dog for a long walk.
Reading “Shoe Dog”. Memoir from Phil Knight. Great book for running and shoe fanatics (and entrepreneurs.)
Really sore today. Going to be a walking day.
Thanks, Ohio! The book is in my Amazon basket. I heart shoes and running, so it is right up my alley!
Hip is still wonky. I can probably run on it, but I decided that I will give it some rest. My dumbbells are happy to be played with.
Still managed to get my 10,000 steps yesterday despite sitting in meetings for 5 hours with almost no breaks.
It is cold, windy, and a little rainy here today. And we have a frost advisory tonight! This is terrible weather for the middle of May! I’m glad I got my run out of the way first thing this morning because it has only gotten colder and windier as the day progresses. So glad that we didn’t have this weather for the Mini last Saturday. Anyway, I had a good 10 mile run this morning. I didn’t get much yardwork done today, I’m hoping it will be a little better out tomorrow.
We have a friend running the Cleveland marathon tomorrow. He has been training hard trying to get a qualifying time for Boston. I feel so bad for him because the forecast looks miserable. Temps in the low 40s, high winds, and showers. He drove over to Cleveland today and I hope he’s able to keep a positive attitude for tomorrow.
Bunsen - I’m really glad that you’re giving your hip some rest. And good heavens, I would not survive 5 hours of meetings with almost no breaks. I am really bad anymore - short attention span and I need a lot of bathroom breaks! You are a warrior.
sabaray - good job with your run this morning! Your dedication to the training plan is going to pay big dividends!
C3Baker, best of luck to your friend. Running when it is cold and rainy is no picnic.
Lol, 5 hours of meetings is probably my limit. I was ready to whack one very talkative participant on the noggin by the end of the last meeting… we could have accomplished the same thing in half the time without all this unneded yakking.
Rain and rain and more rain today! What a contrast with the yesterday’s heat wave. Can’t do much outside.
We’ve got a cold front moving through - so of course we had a few hours of rain and it is noticeably cooler. I’ve had the windows open to freshen up the interior of the house - the air gets so stale! A few dog walks and some cleaning - D is bringing her significant other for a visit next weekend and I don’t want to scare him off!
Thanks for the encouragement, C3Baker - I’ll admit to thinking about your dedication to your plan from time to time!
In foods I would never eat - biscuit and gravy potato chips spotted at the store. I like potato chips so I never buy them - but these? Blech!
Fun 8 mile run mainly on the Ocean City Boardwalk with some on the roads. Pretty and flat, but horrific wind. Enjoying the other CC ladies here with me, but no one wanted to go run!
I would have at least run the half with the wind at my back with ya!!!
30 minute run this morning before a quick trip to AA2 shopping. Windy and chilly here too! Mid May and still had my hand mitts on for part of the run!!!
I did 12 miles with the running group yesterday. I really wasn’t feeling it. Snails and turtles were zooming by me. But I covered the distance. Next half-marathon is in 3 weeks, so that was our longest training run of this season.
Today, I’m off to the running store for new shoes. Maybe they’ll put a spring back in my step.
Great job, everyone! Gertrude, you need those new shoes and a gentle taper.
Spent most of the afternoon pulling icky weeds out of the wooded part of the backyard. Not a whole lot of steps for a whole lot of trouble! Mr. cannot stand weeding, so he bought a propane torch and pretended that he was a fire-breathing dragon while burning weeds along the driveway.
Finally a somewhat pleasant day and I’m inside cleaning. Oh well, needs to be done. It was cold last night - our heat kicked on.
C3Baker needs to report in on her friend - I have seen photos of a water funnel on Lake Erie and reports of sideways wind, thunder/lightening and snow/sleet for 80 to 90% of the Cleveland Marathon today. Yikes! I would have stayed in my car.
