Diet/Exercise/Health/Wellness Support Thread

Finally, was able to return to my normal routine tonight. Just in time to avoid the need for psychotropic medication :).

Glad to hear that, Michael!

After our very late dinner, Mr. B fell asleep in the lunar module chair… woke up at 11:30 pm, looked at his Fitbit and bolted out of the door to get his last steps in. Done!

We decreased the walking times between run intervals last night, but I really felt good and had no problem with it. This will be a tough week to get training in - houseguests starting tonight then going out of town. But I think the hotel has a fitness center so I will just have to get up early and get on a treadmill.

Leaving for yoga now.

Glad you are back at it , Michael! Come on down to OC.

C3B- El Paso is hot! Good job getting out there!
Glad your friend did so well in those conditions.

Congrats to your friend, C3Baker - so glad for him! El Paso sounds awful. FallGirl, sounds like your training is going really well!

Pilates mat class yesterday, which was fun. Good workout but definitely feeling it in my ankles this morning.

It is raining yet again. I only had a 30 minute workout today so headed out in showers and 47 degrees. It wasn’t my finest 30 minutes but it’s done. Tomorrow is an interval day and it is supposed to rain yet again, so I think I will head to the gym for some treadmill time. I’m too nervous in the early morning on wet hilly pavement to get any kind of a quality workout in. I didn’t get my Garmin snug enough this morning so evidently had no heart rate. There were times it sure felt that way!

Walked the pups while Mr. Sabaray once again slept in - he needs to get with the program!

FallGirl- you are doing great!
6 mile run mainly on the boardwalk but a little on nice streets. Clouding up today.

FallGirl, now that you’re in the habit you WILL find time to get your exercise in - a biggest pet peeve for me is people who can’t “find time” to exercise. Whether it’s 15 minutes or 50, in most cases, you can make it work!

Last week at my out of town conference we had one day where we were scheduled with events till later in the evening - didn’t get back to the hotel till 9:45 or so - I felt sluggish after spending most of the day sitting and eating. While surfing on the internet and watching some tv before bed sounded GREAT, I threw on shorts and a tshirt and headed to the hotel fitness center - in 25 minutes I could knock out 2.5 miles - an extra 5000 steps  - come back shower and THEN do the other stuff - bedtime got pushed back about 1/2 hour, but I felt a whole lot better!

Abasket - I never had time to work out until I decided that I would find time for it. Funny how that worked

^^^ And that folks, is what we preach here, right?!

Some good articles in the WSJ today. One is on Women in Running (big percentage of all runners) and food journaling.

One of the articles MOfWC was talking about:

http://www.wsj.com/articles/how-women-took-over-the-world-of-running-1463415987

Good article. Thanks for the link.

In our town, girls cross country outnumbers the boys team 3 to 1.

I have had the fitbit alta since it was released. I love it. Much slimmer than the previous fitbits and my first one. The negatives are it is hard to see outside if it is sunny. Very accurate sleep eval. I charge it about every 4-5 days and it takes about an hour. To sinc it to my phone app I do have to hold my arm close to my iphone to get it done consistently.

Thanks Rocky!

I happened to think of our old hiking friend when this post popped into my FB “trending topics” - I think this was an area he enjoyed hiking. There’s a video in the post that demonstrates the power of the wind. Worth a look - why it’s good to always be prepared!

The same WSJ section has an article on dealing with back pain from sitting too much. Thanks for posting about the other articles and links, MoWC and BB.

Glad you’re back to working out, Michael. I was perusing the old posts I’d missed last week and read about your dental procedure. No fun!

What a motivating group this is–just in the last page: MNK keeping his sanity with a return to his strenuous routines; C3B running in El Paso heat; FallGirl increasing the running and getting it done in the hotel; sabaray dodging the rain for her amazing assortment of exercises ; MoWC keeping up the streak; morrismm loading up the steps; BB (hopefully feeling better?) providing the links and moral support. Just wow, group!

My youngest arrived home last night for a short stay before the summer job starts. While he’s here, he wants to eat and exercise. Aayy! We took a short walk down the boardwalk but jogged back because of an approaching storm. I need to take it easy today. My legs and ankles are feeling yesterday’s run.

The comments on the WSJ article are amusing. “Why don’t more women bicycle?” “Running beats up your joints! You will get injured!” “I’m 75, been running for years. Not injured.” Apparently, people can’t resist telling other people what to do!

I’m feeling much better today after resting and “just” walking yesterday. This morning’s run (3 miles) was actually enjoyable

Don’t ever read the comments. It’s too frustrating.

Sounds like CC at times, right? “Help, my Mac’s screen is cracked!” “Get a PC.” “Help, my PC laptop fan is not working” “Buy a Mac.” Very helpful advice!
