You CAN, FallGirl. You are doing great!

A report from our temporarily absent member (not a runner) that I got yesterday:

" I did an OrangeTheory and a DaVinci Board. Today I did 1 hr

weights w trainer, then about 10 mins of fast drills he wants me doing
(running all out for short distances) then took Fluid Running. The
instructor had a cute Fluid Running t shirt and I commented on it. She said
we are giving those away to whoever works the hardest in class today. I
decided it was mine and it is :-). Then walked around for a bit (gorgeous
day) and at 3, H and I are going for a bike ride. "

Those of you who are Garmin connected might want to take a look at runningahead.com for an incredible and free (donations accepted) online running log that uploads directly from Garmin via Garmin Connect. I love the metrics and the search features within the log. I can direct you to look at mine if you want to PM me and see what it is like. I couldn’t live without it. You can log any exercise- it is completely customizable.

I had a good 5 mile run last night. It was hot, but I did a lot better than I had done the day before. Tonight will be another run, hopefully more like 6-7 miles depending on what time I get home from work. I have a conference call from 9-11pm tonight and that makes it tricky to get all the “stuff” done in the evening that I want to do.

Bromfield2 - I am so glad to hear that the cellulitis is under control. That is such an awful and painful condition.

BunsenBurner - I hope the injection works! Does it put you out of commission for any amount of time afterwards? Enjoy your new 235 toy!

PlantMom - it’s wonderful to hear how you are enjoying having your son home. I totally get what you mean about how enjoyable it is to just talk with adult children. How much longer will he be home?

abasket - gosh, the wedding date is getting very close! I’ll bet you are very excited for it. I’m sure you are crazy busy with all the things that need to get taken care of like your deck. I have always thought that graduations and weddings are great for forcing us to get all the things done around the house that tend to get put off. Nothing like a little time pressure and a bunch of family and friends visiting to make things happen!

MOWC - thanks for the PG update. It sounds as if she is really keeping busy. It’s terrific that she has followed through with her plan for increased activity during retirement. I envy her!

Bunsen- this popped up on my Twitter feed re: injections. I’ve had them but my last set in 2011 were xray guided.

I think I might look at that runningahead log. I’m really interested in VO2 Max. Back in 2012, i had a lab test that showed a 51 VO2 Max. I wasn’t in super shape back then. Right now, the Garmin shows me at 50 for running and 51 for cycling. Thought it would be much higher? Although I’m thinking it may be because I don’t have that many outdoor runs (most longer runs have been indoors) and I may have listed my max HR too high? I had it at 184 but my lab test had it at 181? It also didn’t have a resting HR listed? Thought it grabbed it automatically? So I manually entered a 45 for resting and 181 for max.

I also wonder why the cycle and running VO2 Max differ? Currently the Garmin shows the upper limit for VO2 Max at 53 for my age (59). Seems too low? And one last question for someone that might be more knowledgable — does VO2 Max rise considerably when you are racing or busting a hard tempo run?

Wow, so much already has been done by the early risers closer to the East Coast!

“Bunsen- will your phone interface OK with the 235?”

My phone is 3.5 years old and does not have enough memory for the newest, fanciest iOS. Without it, no apps can be installed on it. I have been postponing inevitable… because I am lazy.

Thanks for the reminder on runningahead, MOWC - I had set up an account some time ago but hadn’t kept a log there because it was too cumbersome with my older Garmin.

After my experience with Plated, I decided to try some meals from Chef’d. I have two that will arrive on Friday, just in time for the weekend. Tandoori shrimp with cucumber and mint raiti and then grilled “Thai inspired” ribs with coconut rice and a peanut slaw. I like being able to choose the meals I want from a much larger selection than choosing a set number from a smaller set of options.

Just a reminder at this time of year about how easy it is to get dehydrated. Even a little dehydration can affect performance and how you feel. I think I was a little dehydrated this morning. I didn’t have much to drink last night other than the beer at my seminar reception at 5:30. My weight was very low after I ran this morning and I felt sluggish on the run. Like the low weight, but I suspect I was dehydrated because I REALLY wanted a lot to drink with my breakfast. In the warmer, humid weather, just “living” can dehydrate you if you aren’t careful.

Keep us posted! That sounds delicious. Do they provide nutritional info and control portion sizes?

Bunsen, yes, they do - if you see an item you’d like to try, you can click right on the “recipe” and it gives you the nutrition info right there - before you buy. There are also meals specifically identified as lighter.

Good reminder on hydration, MOWC. I hate drinking a lot of water at night but had about a liter of Bunsen’s Smartwater before bed. Now I’m drinking a lot in anticipation of some warmer weather this afternoon. That’s one thing that keeps from hot yoga in the morning - dehydration.

Yes, good point about the hydration. Suddenly we’re in the 80’s!

MOfWC, thanks. I asked the doc about the differences between Xray and ultrasound guidance, and the doc said there is less paperwork for the ultrasound. So this is what I’m doing!

This is a good description and pretty much what the doc is doing:

https://www.hss.edu/hip-pain-center-treatments.asp

The wait begins.

Have you been shot?

Yup. I asked when the shot is going to happen because I thought the doc was numbing my skin. Lol, that was apparently it. T = 7 days is when I am supposed to feel less pain if the joint is where the trouble is. Was told to take it easy for the day.

Glad that’s over! I thought those shots hurt pretty much. Glad it didn’t! Here’s hoping it does the trick.

My pain threshold is super high though. The doc did an outstanding job, so probably the combination of the two factors worked to my advantage. The lidocaine or whatever was in the mix worked like a charm to relive the pain right away, but it wore off after an hour.

Glad I did not see beforehand how long the damn needle was!! I would have freaked out.

You are a brave woman, Bunsen. I don’t think I could have done it.

Lol, sabaray. Painting my toenails with paint from a spray can was a much more heroic endeavor.

Just a 5 mile walk today. Thought the legs needed a rest.

Walking is an excellent recovery day exercise.
