Today is my birthday! And I move up to a new age group (hint…I’m a speed limit now!) so I am hoping to win my new age group in the Monumental Mile race tonight. It’s a fun one-mile race downtown that is the kickoff for the Monumental Marathon in November. They have training plans and say that if you can run a mile in June, you can get to the point that you can run a marathon in November. And in case you didn’t know it, today is also “National Leave the Office Early Day”. I am planning to celebrate both events!
Happy birthday C3Baker! I’m really glad you are no longer in my age group! Enjoy your day and good luck tonight!
Happy Birthday C3. Good luck in your race!
Happy Birthday C3B!!! The speed limit around here is 70!!!
Happy birthday, C3B!!! On my street, the speed limit is 25 mph.
Have a fun race and enjoy the National Leave Office Early Day!
Thanks! Good suggestions re: small goals. It’s my new job! It is cutting my day up into little pieces, and there are too many “emergencies”. Hopefully, I can wrestle that wild child down and get back to having more blocks of time available.
Happy Birthday, C3B! Good luck in the mile. My friends Jen and Robert are running it for his last race in his 40s! Watch for them.
Happy birthday, C3B!
Out of curiosity, does anyone have any recommendations for a waterproof mp3 player (or any type of sound-playing device)?
@romanigypsyeyes I bought this one, http://www.amazon.com/Waterfi-Waterproof-Apple-Shuffle-Headphones/dp/B009J0INTM. Just used it today. It’s not perfect. For it to work there needs to be a really good seal when the headphones are in your ears, and that happens probably 50% of the time. Usually one side goes out. Sometimes both sides lose sound. Maybe if I got a tighter swim cap it would work better, or if I tried to find better headphones.
Someone recommended the Finis Neptune to me – it conducts through your bones not your ears. It just sounded too weird for me, and I’m used to using Apple products and iTunes.
Happy birthday C3B! Another Gemini!
I went swimming today, and did some weights. Eating has been horrible, though, for the past week. We had a party on Sunday, my husband went on a business trip, and I’ve been eating the leftover carbs all week long.
3 mile walk very early this morning, with the pup. Then a lot of time in the car driving to dentist appointments (for H and me) back down in Fairfield County, CT. A little crazy, I know, but we really like both the dentist and our hygienist – and we trust them!
Re; morning exercise – if I don’t do it first thing in the morning, it doesn’t happen. Here at the beach, if I run from the house, I just get up, get dressed, and go out the door. If I’m going to the gym, I have an orange and half a cup of coffee first.
Re; roller skating – this is rollerblading, right? About 15+ years ago I switched up my normal exercising by rollerblading every morning after the kids went to school. I went to a park in the next town that had a mile loop divided into lanes for walkers & runners, and bikes. Rollerbladers went wherever they wanted! I felt it in my hips, that’s for sure. I wore pads, but no helmet, as I recall. (Of course my kids were not allowed anywhere near their rollerblades without full protective gear, including helmet.)
Happy Birthday/Happy New Age Group, @C3Baker!
I am petrified about my race on Saturday. I know I have mental issues about racing (after almost 40 years this continues…) but this is ridiculous. This race is NOT important (i.e. I am not in the Olympics or the key member of a corporate relay team) and I have done it and won my age group twice before. I don’t know what my problem is. Probably the fact that it is extremely difficult and a real death march due to constant large hills and heat. Oh- and it is supposed to be raining, which I absolutely hate! AND- it starts at 6:30am! What’s not to love? It’s called the Hillbilly Half and is beautiful and in the country. But hard. And early. And hot. I picked up my packet today and the tech t-shirt is cute (bright green) and will be one of my favorites (if I survive the race).
In honor of my taper I ate two huge donuts at work and am now drinking a beer- after a 2 mile day.
Why do I sign up for these things? I know Ohiopublic will relate!
@MomofWildChild – maybe you sign up because it feels so good when you finish? (Actually, it all sounds pretty fun to me. Hills, an early start, a little rain so you don’t overheat? What’s not to love?)
Happy Birthday, C3B!
You know we’ll all be cheering you on and waiting for a report, MoWC! Good luck!
I can relate to the post-entertaining and spouse-away eating, fireandrain. I did not make the usual heart healthy lunch for DH today, and instead ended up eating one way overpriced and under-satisfying salted caramel cupcake from Sprinkles (very disappointed in this unworthy splurge).
Exercising was walking and a 40 minute bike ride.
We think you’re awesome no matter how the race goes, MOWC. It looks and sounds tough, but you’re a worthy competitor. ^:)^
In case you all didn’t know - tomorrow is, in fact, National Donut Day. Yes, I’ll be having one - but only one, not one dozen.
Made it through swim day 2. Made it about 45 minutes today including several laps of water walking.
Mr R and my first anniversary is next week so we’re going on a very small weekend getaway with another couple at a resort so my goal is to go swimming every day between now and then to build up some strength.
MOWC - unfortunately a team of white-coated therapists monitoring us 24/7 couldn’t help us. I’ve been better for some reason on my race. I replace anxiety thoughts with an attack mindset. Don’t dwell 1 second past the anxiety. Either switch to attack mindset or stop thinking when the “whys” creep in. Don’t think. Just flow before/during/after.
Sabaray beat me to the punch! - tomorrow being national donut day!!!
Sign you have a fitness problem. You drive in the evening to pick up your daughter from work. You park the car and because you probably have a spare 10 minutes you lock the car up and run around the long block over and over until D texts to say she is walking out to the car!!!
Another road trip with a solid 5 hours of driving tomorrow and a 3 hour meeting where I’ll be stuck on my butt. Too many road miles lately!!! My Alta won’t be happy.
How are you liking the Alta? Car days are tough!
Run/walk this AM. I also ran Map my Run along with my timer and found that I was not going 3.1 miles , but 3.6. Pace was 11.47/mile so not fast, but part of that is walking. Gonna finish my race with a pulse and a smile
D ran in the JP Morgan Corporate Challenge in Central Park yesterday.
