Awesome job, FallGirl - especially in the humidity that I’m sure you have!
So far liking the Alta! Definitely like the slimness of the band - still figuring out some of the vibration alerts - seems it’s buzzing a lot! Even if I have got my 250 steps for the hour! Also the text alerts (as opposed to just the call) alerts are nice but now I realize how many texts I get! Still need to “see” where it is recording exercise besides active minutes - where do
You see that? I mostly just use the phone app.
I just use the phone app- you can scroll sideways on it for more detail. I set my alerts (can do that on the phone app) to only alert for phone calls (and the 250 step warning and completion).
I ran 1.3 miles this morning- one of my few “minimum” streak days- in anticipation of the hellish race. We had a rough day in our community yesterday/today. A Blue Angel pilot crashed during practice and to avoid hitting homes and apartments, he went down with his plane and was killed. We got word late last night that a 19 year old Vanderbilt pitcher drowned in a lake accident yesterday. Baseball playoffs pale in comparison. We are all devastated. Life is way too uncertain.
Those deaths are so tragic - I feel so badly for the teammates and friends who were with the young man who drowned. Really puts things in perspective.
MOWC, Hillbilly Half was mentioned on NPR this morning.
Really? I think it’s because a video of the Deliverance guys with guitars and costumes went viral last year. It was pretty funny. Much funnier than the huge hills!
Yes, that’s why. It was about the origin of the name.
3.9 miles this morning. I was planning to tackle more weeding, but at the moment it’s raining. Instead I’m off to peruse running shoes, golf attire, and a few other “necessities.” Perhaps I’ll get back to the weeding this afternoon.
I saw that on the news, MOWC. Both incidents are simply awful. Plus an Air Force Thunderbird jet crashed after a fly over at the AF Academy graduation. Fortunately the pilot was able to eject. At the moment I’m glad S didn’t get a pilot slot (due to his Electrical Engineering degree, which the AF said they needed in other jobs). I’m stressed enough as a military mom.
Trying to get psyched to do my run. Trying really hard. Blech.
Fireandrain, we all have those days. I hope you found the energy to “punch the clock,” as idad used to say.
MOfWC, I heard about the Blue Angel crash on the news… How awful. The Angels come here every July to perform at the Seafair; I wonder if they will suspend their performances while the crash is being investigated. So sad to hear about the 19 yr old who drowned.
Good luck to all who race tomorrow. I am getting ready to hit the road tomorrow.
My body is sore today but we’re off to the pool. I’m determined to get into a routine even if I don’t swim all that much.
Having a routine is a good thing!
That’s a tough day MOWC. Sending healing thoughts.
So sad, MoWC.
I ran 3.6 miles this morning at sunrise when it was already 72 degrees. In the relatively brief time it took me to run (slowly, 11’18" min/mile), it warmed up to 80. Before noon the temp was 90, and the high now is 95. It’s humid, naturally. It’s all included when you sign up for Florida :-o
Nice run CBB, and you too Fallgirl! You’re going to do great in your race!
I celebrated Donut Day. My chocolate frosted classic was only 280 calories, 13g sugar, and 15g fat. Oh boy, good thing I don’t do that often. A healthier indulgence was a pedicure with a hot rock massage. I have problems with restless legs and bashed up toenails. Having the foot work seems to help and the toes certainly look a ton better.
I went to the chiro today, as first baby step to get back to weights. This year’s increased office work (= more hours at the desk) has done my neck no favors. Follow-up appt. with the primary care physician in a couple weeks to go over blood work. Heading out to walk the dog for a second time and finishing the day out over 10K steps.
Only managed to swim for about a half hour but hey, I still made it out there!
I’m starting to get skin issues from the chlorine (at least, that’s what I’m assuming since it gets worse after swimming). I’ve never, ever reacted to chlorine before. I hope this isn’t a new thing I’ve developed from the Lupus (but I will not let a skin issue stop me from swimming- one of the few things that brings me joy no matter what.) I sent a message to my Dermatologist to see what she recommends.
Believe it or not, I did not have a donut yesterday! I was all excited to get one but…just didn’t happen! I did have some gelato in a waffle cone though. Guess that makes up for no donuts!
PlantMom, a pedicure with a hot rock massage sounds heavenly.
A little over 5 humid hilly miles this morning - check in with my coach this afternoon so we’ll see how truly pathetic I am then! The good thing is I have gotten all my runs in. I might be slow, but I’m consistent!

I survived my Half Marathon, which I approached with complete terror (as I do most races). This time it was deserved. I didn’t do particularly well. I was 3 minutes slower than last year. I think it was more humid, which really bothered me. It was VERY humid. The temperature didn’t get as high as last year (stayed around 70-72) but the humidity was worse. It was cloudy, which helped. I just didn’t have it on the hills, despite tapering more than I usually do. The hills on this course are very bad. Most everyone around me was walking a lot, including me. I ran 2:18:54 for 2nd in my age group. I was going to beat myself up if someone beat me by a little bit, but it was an extremely fast woman who ran 2:10, so that was a little better. I wasn’t running 2:10 unless I cut the course. The finisher medals are nice and my age group award is a wooden coaster, which is nice.
This race is out in the country and is pretty, but since this was my 3rd time running it, that was sort of a “who cares?” It was so hard that I couldn’t really stop and enjoy the scenery, which did include cows, alpacas, horses a dead armadillo in the middle of the road at mile 8, and the Deliverance style hillbilly groups at a few locations. I just wanted it to be over. And now it is.
I’m fascinated by what people wear to run a hot, humid half marathon. Some people did the costume thing- with denim overalls or denim shorts to be hillbillies. No way would I make 13.1 miles in denim! There were capris, a few women with long tights and one older man with capris under his shorts. People had all sorts of water carriers, including hydration vests. The course had a lot of aid stations, fortunately. I used 2 Huma Gels (around 5 and around 10) and had some Gatorade on the course. They had those plastic water packets, which I guess you puncture with your teeth. At least that’s what I did. Sure saves on cups, but they can be a little difficult to work.
That sounds brutal, MoWC but congratulations on your finish and place and getting it done, behind you!
I did five miles of run/walk late this morning, working on keeping my heart rate very low. Good thing because it was 91 by the time I got done and I was hot enough even with all the walking added in.
