Pizzagirl- that’s incredible! I would not be able to get out of bed today with all those classes.
Well, I ran and I survived. Traffic was very light, so running from the hotel worked. It was not beautiful, and it was all concrete, but I did it. 4.1 miles. One car deliberately came right at me. Gotta love people. The weather was horrible. It was 78 and 95% humidity. On the way back I had a hot wind. I can’t believe I grew up as a runner here in Texas, although this part of town is particularly terrible for running. My hotel is on “Headquarters Drive”. The opposite way from where I ran has HQ of RentACenter, Penney’s, FritoLay, EDS etc. Traffic is bad. Done!
MOWC - is the Cooper Institue still going strong. I still remember the paperback Aerobics book my Dad had me read. Think it was the late 60s? My Dad was a runner back then and people in our small Ohio town thought he was crazy.
Those are a lot of classes, Pizzagirl! I know I couldn’t do it! ^:)^
I was just going to complain about our weather until I read MOWC’s Texas report. Only 64 and 83% humidity here. Lots of pollen. On my “run” today, I got a late start and had a lot of traffic to deal with as well as a train that had stopped and completely blocked part of my run, so I didn’t do as well as I had hoped based on prior days. I need to figure out a decent route for the weekend long run - my running group hasn’t been supportive of my new method so I haven’t been joining them for runs - my ego can handle being slow when I’m alone but it’s another thing entirely to have a group of women constantly remarking on it.
Thanks for those links, Michael - I’ve started a bookmarks folder just for articles you recommend! There are quite a few of us who really appreciate your generous sharing of expertise.
Wow, Pizzagirl, that was an incredible day you had yesterday! I’m glad you aren’t sore today - that’s great!
sabaray - good suggestion about a bookmarks folder for all the helpful articles. I am constantly trying to go back and find something I remembered seeing but didn’t have a chance to open/read at the time. Sorry to hear that your running group isn’t supportive of your new training plan. You’ve got to do what is best for you, though, so I hope you’re able to find a good route for your weekend run.
MNK - count me as another who really appreciates you sharing all your information and expertise. Your cycling workout last night sounded incredibly brutal! Not for me!
MOWC - that sounds like awful conditions to try to run in, I’m glad you were able to get it done. I hope it’s easier at your next hotel as you are expecting.
A short 3.1 mile run last night but it was good training as it is at the park with hills. No running tonight, too much other “stuff” to get done.
Cooper’s is still going strong as is Dr. Cooper. I lived a block away from the wonderful campus and was a member since the early 80s. I can’t wait to stay there tonight. My wedding reception was there. It was a big part of my family’s life and we spent a lot of time at the facility- including feeding the ducks. There is a mile long outdoor running path.
"are a lot of classes, Pizzagirl! I know I couldn’t do it! "
But I couldn’t run the way you all do. You work way harder than I do there! I just go to a class and follow along because once you’re there, you go with the flow and get swept up in it - it doesn’t require the self-discipline all the running does!
It sure does require discipline to sign up for a class and attend religiously, as you do, Puzzagirl. My hat’s off to you. Running is very similar - as soon as I put shoes on and get out of the door, I am in the groove. Putting the shoes on is the hardest part!
I agree it takes a lot of discipline to keep going to the classes. Well done, pg.
Enjoyed the concert last night and kept the wine drinking low in anticipation of running this AM. I started out by ignoring my interval timer and just running a mile. I had Map My Run on simultaneously with the timer app ( I’m sure there is one that does both). Mile time was 10:21. Much better than a few months ago and I was not nearly as winded. Continued the intervals for another 2 plus miles.
Nice work keeping up with the weather and the classes and all everyone! PG, how many different places do you belong to to attend all that variety?!
The only time I miss my Charge HR is today when I’m wondering how many stairs I have done. Home prepping for our S’s wedding this weekend and one of my jobs is running 48 tablecloths through the spritzer and dryer to get any wrinkles out - the dryer is in the basement. Between everything else I have surely passed 50 flights!
I belong to 4 - my park district (full gym facilities - weights, running/treadmill, pool /Fluid Running); OrangeTheory; a local Pilates studio that offers Pilates, barre and DaVinci board; and CorePower Yoga. My park district and the OT are 5 min from my house; the Pilates studio and the CP Yoga are one town over, close to one another. It is not inexpensive to do this, I’ll be honest, but I don’t really spend on much else.
Oh - I’m not doing the roller skating. Between the skates, safety equipment and the lessons it was close to $500 and I just could not justify that.
We need to take up a collection for Pizzagirl’s roller skating lessons so we can hear about them. I’ll be circulating a gofundme link privately (jk)!
Classes and workout stuff are really all I spend money on either. We have a couples membership to the gym that rarely gets used, but I have an unlimited membership to the Pilates studio and then I buy privates on top of that. And now my running coach (who is also awesome and a tremendous value for the expertise I’m getting). The studio just raised their prices for privates but I am so addicted to working with my trainer (who is incredible) that I can’t imagine stopping now. I am getting very excited for my trip out West in a few months where I’ll definitely spend money. Even Mr. Sabaray is getting excited. I figure by that point I might be moving at a semi-faster mollusk pace - but the course is open for four hours and I know I can walk that easily!
Sabaray, if a bunch of chicken tutu wearing, chain-smoking ladies could walk a hilly half course in 90 degree heat in a few minutes over 4 hours, you will be able to finish that half in much, much less time!! That park is flat and gorgeous. I am planning on hobbling to the finish line unless my doc puts the kibosh on my running.
More strength to mollusks, sabaray. I’m betting by race time you will have left us other snails in the proverbial dust.
It was so warm yesterday that I opted to ride my bike to create a breeze. 13 miles. I’m thanking the gods of invention for A/C and treadmills. I headed to the gym this afternoon and ran 5 miles, inside, in cooler air, perfectly flat, a little boost of help from the machine. What a luxury!!! I could pick up the pace AND keep my heartrate down without the walk intervals. Felt great! I’m pretty impressed with the Garmin and Fitbit. The indoor running function on the Garmin pegged the distance to 1/100 mile, and the two HR monitors averaged to within 1 bpm of each other. I added in a few sets of arm/back exercises on the cable machines for good measure.
Yoga today–had to take a very early morning class (Sunrise yoga) because I had commitments for most of the day. Looking forward to starting the pilates class next week.
