Oh abasket - have fun this weekend. I want to hear all about the wedding!
I have a treadmill and bike in my basement and am on a recurring monthly unlimited yoga pass. The studio is 2 minutes from my house and I go 3-4 times a week so it’s well worth it. I have found that lately I am not clothes shopping much except at Athleta. I may have to change that as I have only lost 5 pounds since I started running, but my pants are all getting loose. You might say I am literally running my butt off!
Got to Cooper’s and ran 11/2 mikes on the outdoor track. 97 degrees and awful, but some shade. I’m now sitting by the outdoor pool where a I used to swim Master’s. Memories… I’ve been eating terribly on this trip. All the things I miss that I used to eat here in Dallas.
Fallgirl, you go and RUN that butt off! Another case for the “don’t worry about the number on the scale” - the natural state of your body changing shape due to exercise (as opposed to the opposite: your body changing shape because you’re not eating and moving right) is even more satisfying than a lower number on the scale!
I wish the scale number was lower and I’m still waist-less (kind of how I’m built - straight up and down) but I have to admit, I really like being strong.
PG, the amount of effort you put into your classes is very impressive. Other than my twice-a-week runs, I don’t get the same level of cardio that you do in those classes. I should do more classes …
I’ve been running and swimming and lifting weights as usual, although on the slow side. I’m going away for the weekend, so I expect I’ll fall behind on this thread again. Happy workouts, everyone!

Pizzagirl, betcha we are made from the same dough, as my grandpa used to day. I am a pretty straight up and down, but I can create an illusion of a perfect hourglass body shape. That’s what the chichi clothes are really for!
Not much exercise yesterday, but tonight is a 5K race. We had some major storms the past couple days - the yard and plants are grateful, but it has really kept the humidity level high.
Hooping is hula hooping - it is very popular these days. Lots of youtube videos. There are lots of off-the-body moves and other things to make it a really good workout - way more than what we did in elementary school!
abasket - Good luck with the wedding this weekend! I know it will be so special - looking forward to hearing the report!
Did another rings workout yesterday (this one without any inverted hangs, so no motion sickness, lol). It consisted of 5X 5 second turnout holds above the rings, 5X 8-12 reps of dips, 5X 12 reps of push-ups with the rings just above ground level, 5X 12 reps of mountain climbers with the rings at the same position and then a 30 plank on the rings at the same height. Doesn’t sound like much, right? I then took 2 hours off to train 2 clients. Afterwards, I decided to do an additional workout. Tried to do my parallettes workout. Barely got through 2 reps of my movement sequences and totally failed on my 3rd rep when I found my self doing a headstand on the parallettes instead of a shoulder stand! My arms and shoulders were so incredibly beat from the rings workout. The instability of the rings just makes every single movement and exercise exponentially harder as you engage every muscle, primary and secondary, to not just perform the movement but to stabilize the rings and your body. Then tried to do my typical indoor weighted chin-ups and dips. Not so stellar. Even dumbbell curls were ridiculously hard. My arms were so beat that I almost ate dinner by lowering my face to the plate rather than trying to lift a fork :D.
Another example of fitness trending back to playing like you are a kid, moving your whole body instead of being locked into a machine. A great trend that is expanding the involvement of people in a broad scope of healthy activities.
6 miles in the Dallas blast furnace. Toured some of my old courses and ran into some old friends at Cooper’s. I am glad I live in run was extremely difficult for me, it just felt hard to breathe. Done, though. There’s a really special bakery…
Neck pain is better, about one week post-chiro appt. + Advil. I’ve got a counter height chair near my desk and I’m alternating standing and sitting, or moving to another location with my laptop.
Recently, I’ve been having pain in the balls of my feet. Dr. Google says it sounds like metatarsalgia, maybe due to my devotion to thin-soled, barefoot style of shoes or sandals. I clocked in +17,000 walking steps yesterday, and the balls of my feet are not happy. I’ll get online and look for metarsal pads today, and compression socks, and see if either of those make a difference.
The game plan is to get the things that are hurting to stop hurting, keep walking, add in weight training after a two year unexpected detour, have a plan to get through winter (light box! exercise!).

Unfortunately some of us never did this! I’m serious. I never ran around a playground as a kid, much less played ball, etc. Not when there was a book nearby!! Didn’t even ride a bike.
But I love the concept of a “playground workout” for adults.
Ok. Water. How much do you drink? Do you believe in the benefits or think it’s overhyped? Does it come naturally to you or do you “force” yourself to drink? Any strategies or tips (beyond the obvious “keep a water bottle handy”)? To what extent do you “allow” other beverages to count?
I don’t force water. I rely a lot on other beverages- iced tea, occasional diet cola, beer… I try to stay hydrated while I run (and that applied to spin classes or other activities where I was really sweating) and I drink water for that. Or a sports drink if available. I am not a great water drinker and it gets annoying to have to pee every 30 minutes.
