@abasket and @ohiopublic are you guys in the drought where you are? Here in lower Michigan, it hasn’t rained in weeks. EVERYTHING is brown. Even my neighbors who keep pristine lawns have given up and let them go brown.
I’ve lost 6 lb since stopping the prednisone yesterday.
Yes, to drought here. Our sprinkler is on trying to resuscitate the grass right now. Just checked the weather and besides a very small 30% chance window for an hour or two there is no rain on the forecast till at least next Wednesday. And it’s HOT. I have been moving my hanging baskets into the shade to try and get them to survive.
My D on the other hand lives in Columbus where things are lush and green thanks to several deluges they have had. Wacky.
We had terrible storms overnight and this morning- flooding all around (not at my house). We had a really bad storm in Indianapolis yesterday morning AFTER I ran, fortunately. I had some travel issues due to weather in much of the country, but it all worked in my favor and I got an earlier flight.
I’m wondering how much water weight I’ll lose over the next few weeks lol.
Mr R’s work isn’t taking the kids out for their afternoon recess because our real feel temp is over 100. We’re supposed to get rain tonight bit I’m not holding my breath. My poor dog has been sleeping next to the AC vents. She won’t even go out to her kiddie pool.
I want to get back to swimming but my joints and muscles are screaming after getting off the Prednisone Giving myself a few days of rest to readjust.
Super hot here today too (97 real degrees, normal high humidity). I worked out at the gym–3 slow miles on the treadmill focusing on low HR, upper body weights, and 5 minutes on the elliptical. Before dinner some thunderstorms passed nearby. They didn’t rain on us, but the air was cooled significantly for our pre-dinner constitutional.
I did a repeat of last night’s dinner with a cold chicken on a greek style salad, a side of toasted homemade ww bread, and cut up fresh peaches. My weak time for food, besides when I’m in somewhat stressful large family groups, is late afternoon, before dinner. Today at that time I had a banana and a handful of peanuts. Did the trick. No garbage food for me other than a few goldfish. yay.
A day of desk work had me sorely lacking in steps today. Add to that 90+ degrees temps and humidity and it was a “no fun outside” day. But, steps, they must be had! Went out and knocked off a few thousand on a brisk walk to meet and exceed my daily.
Missing exercise class a bit. The schedule at the fitness center at work is nearly nil in the summer - and my schedule hasn’t been very flexible during the day.
abasket – good question, about our weak moments/trigger foods.
Late afternoon is very dangerous for me – I can eat a lot between 4-6 pm. I often try to arrange my day so that I am nowhere near food then.
Free food is another issue for me. If I’m at a conference or a party or anywhere where there is copious amounts of food that I’m not paying for, it’s hard for me to resist. I’m sure there is some deep psychological, going-back-to-childhood trigger explaining this.
And I love sweets – I like having a little chocolate after dinner. Usually I can keep it to a couple squares of chocolate, but sometimes (like tonight, when we have ice cream in the freezer) I go a little overboard.
Oh well, I ran 6.2 miles today, so a little ice cream is allowed.
I’m absolutely serious- my eating weakness is things that taste good! It might be donuts at work, beer or wine at happy hour, ice cream or numerous other temptations. It’s easy to tell myself “I can run it off” even though we all know that isn’t true! Visiting my family in PA is deadly. My sister has SO much food (excessive) in her house and I just graze.
I’m doing better with upper body exercises. Using 5 pound Dumbbells.
I thought this thread might get a kick out of this (since I’m assuming I have far more millenial friends on facebook than most on here ). There have been memes going around today about how Pokemon Go (a game released around midnight last night) has single-handedly fixed the problem with millenials’ sedentary lifestyle (you have to find pokemon in the “wild” by walking around outside and “finding” them. Different areas have different pokemon so it really makes you work for it!)
Admittedly, since downloading it, I have walked far more than I normally do (which isn’t staying much). The dog is happy because her dad has taken her on several walks today to find pokemon.
But I came on here to have another mini brag. My wedding ring started fitting a little bit ago but I normally wear my wedding ring on my left hand and engagement on the right (they are very dissimilar rings so I don’t wear them together). Now I can actually wear them both again! I’ve been only wearing one or the other since they didn’t fit on my right hand.
We have another wedding in Mr R’s family two weeks from Saturday and I’m hoping to lose more water weight by then. I just want to lose the moon face!
And I’ve never heard of Pokemom Go- I must be old!!!
Sounds like late afternoon is a tough time for many. It’s hard to walk in the door from work and not grab something to munch on - especially knowing that dinner is at least a couple hours away. I used to keep some really good, flavorful cheese around for this time of day. I’d cut a small hunk in lots of little pieces and then savor each one. Enough flavor and a little protein to satisfy.
Good night for track and field trials. Jenny Simpson and Emma Coburn looked good. Coby Alexander a 1500 meter qualifier is a former Ohio HS state champ in the 1600 meters. Centrowitz and Manzano also qualified in the 1500. The 1500 is such a strange race. Why they run 3 3/4 laps I’ll never know? Bring back the mile!
We used to see Manzano race when he was in high school. He was older than my son but would be at some of the same meets. He’s a wonderful young man and has done so much for his Hispanic community and young athletes. He’s one of my favorites. He’s a Hoka athlete.
Well I had a freak accident last night. Maybe not so much a freak accident but an accident all the same.
My H plays in a Thursday night scramble and I subbed. It rained so I was pretty wet. H turned the cart sharp one way and I went the other. Ugh! You know how things happen in slow motion but you can’t stop! I landed hard first on my tailbone and then smacked my head. I am really sore today. Really sore. I don’t think I broke my tailbone but they can’t do anything about it anyways. I am hoping it is just muscle soreness. Taking ibuprofen and hoping for the best.
The good news is that despite things, we ended up -4 for the 9 holes and won money. Once I got over the shock, I played pretty well. Of course, I had planned a lot of golf this weekend, including an outing on Saturday that I want to play well in.
I’ve been running and alternating walking every day. I will go for a walk today to get my muscles moving. But no running for a couple of days.
I am way behind reading here as I am working long hours this week (including tomorrow). I got up this morning and really did not feel like running - 88% humidity, I have not been sleeping well due to work stress and personal things, had to pull a running bra out of the dirty clothes hamper, etc. Ran 3.5 miles anyway.
FallGirl, THAT’S dedication! LOL’ing on the running bra!
Ouch Deb! I bet your H felt horrible - and your body! Make sure you pay attention to your body well for any residual effects. Who knew golf was so dangerous!
