My goodness, Deb, that sounds so painful! I hope you feel better as the day goes on.
FallGirl, I can so relate - hope things improve. It’s tough to be in that perfect storm of work and personal stress.
Rest day for me, 2 hour run tomorrow - which I am actually looking forward to! The longer the run, the stronger I feel. It’s the one thing in my life that I alone can control and improve.
Oh no, deb! I hope you are OK. I bet you were shaken up!
Sabaray- listen to your words, “The longer the run, the stronger I feel!” Excellent. You have come SO far!
I feel horrible every morning in this humidity. I start out thinking I can’t make my run, but somehow I do. It has just been miserable.
Maybe Bunsen can help me- I hate to be a “side effects whiner”, but I’m not sure the Prolia injection has done me any favors. I seem tired and heat sensitive and not feeling as good as I felt after I stopped the Forteo. Of course, it’s summer and there are other reasons, but I am not convinced I’m not being hit a little hard by the Prolia. I’ve read up on side effects, but you get the people who swear they gained 5 pounds the day after the first injection. I didn’t see where heat intolerance was a side effect. I know muscle weakness can be.
Hope you’re on the mend Deb. When I first read your post and saw scramble–I thought it was scrabble and kept thinking how do your hurt your tailbone playing scrabble. Then I put on my reading glasses. Anyway, feel better.
Walked 2 miles this morning. Leaving for our trip late this afternoon.
I read somewhere that the incident rate of injuries caused by golf carts is ridiculously high. Can’t remember the details, but it was impressive. Hope your are feeling better Deb.
I probably need reading glasses too, because I thought deb said “scrabble”! Ouch!!! Deb, do not hesitate to check it out with your doctor. I think I already mentioned that I had a bad fall when a kid stepped into my path as I was coming down a steep hill on my cross-country skis. It happened so fast that I only had two options - to wipe out or to hit the kid. I chose the former. I should have gone to the doctor, because that thing hurt for a while! I was pleased to actually see that there were no structural damage on my recent fancy pix. I could have ended much worse. So do take good care if yourself and watch the pain. It will tell you if it needs a professional opinion.
MOfWC, I can see how heat and humidity, combined with muscle weakness and fatigue (apparenly common in 30% of patients who recieved Prolia injections) can slow someone down! I also noticed that decreased levels of phosphorus are listed among the side effects. I wonder if that is contributing to decreased heat tolerance, too.
Another 2 lb down! I looked in the mirror this morning and could actually see the difference.
I’m in a ton of pain though and all of my usual suspect joints are swollen. Today is my infusion day so I’m really hoping that helps tremendously.
I found out that one of my parents’ new friends has Lupus and we talked at length at our 4th of July party. When you have a rare disease, finding someone else with it feels like finding a lost sibling.
Yeah- I don’t take supplements except for the Vit D and calcium I have to take for the bone stuff. I can’t do anything about the med now- my next shot isn’t until December. They blood test me before the shot to check levels of everything. If I don’t feel OK in the fall, I might consider declining the next shot. BUT- this is unusual heat and humidity for us, so I need to give it all a chance.
The granola bar thing didn’t surprise me - some of them are pretty much candy bars. Slimfast Shakes - Mr. Sabaray’s idea of a good diet food. I tended to think more like the nutritionists than the general public, and I’m sure most of you do as well. Chocolate chip cookies are healthy, right? If they’re made with dark chocolate and served with a glass of red wine?
The heat and humidity has been brutal - are you sure you’re hydrating enough? I have to carry water with me when I run, no readily available fountains.
I had that thought, too, sabaray. I think I’m pretty well hydrated, but running in the morning I suspect I dehydrate overnight. On my long runs I have good access to water- from the house in the morning, not at all.
When it is really hot and humid, it is uncommon for me to wake up dehydrated. I probably would not notice it except for the light headaches (it happens even when I drink a lot of water and zero dehydrating stuff like alcohol in the evening). Maybe a big glass of water and a salt pill before the morning run could make it less tiring?
Overall I wouldn’t probably ever say that granola bars are “healthy” - I might say, “not a bad snack choice as opposed to other things” but not healthy. I do love KIND bars - but I know they have a good amount of sugar - I guess I’d rather benefit from the nuts and dried fruit though over the grain of a granola bar.
I will say I like just about everything on that chart! - good or bad!
Bunsen- you mean NOT uncommon, right? I do drink some (but not enough) before I head out. Salt pills- duh. I have them and really haven’t used them since marathon training a couple of years ago. I’ll dig them out! Thanks for the suggestion.
I keep a bottle of Smart Water on my nightstand in the summer and occasionally drink at night. We PNW dwellers are pansies when it comes to heat. 75, and we are wilting. But we detest AC!
