MOWC - has your son trained in Flagstaff? Looks like housing rentals are cheaper plus more facilities. My current online coach is there too - McMillan Running.
He hasn’t, but he did say he thought it would be the cheapest place. I know there are a LOT of aspiring runners who train there and live in group houses. He spent a summer (I still can’t believe he talked me into this) before senior year of high school living outside of Taos, NM and training on trails and reading. He wanted to get out of the Dallas heat and get some good training before his college recruiting started.
MOfWC, hope it will be less brutal on your race morning.
Stepped on the scale today… I have not been running, just doing my weights etc., so I thought I certainly gained a couple of pounds with all these birthday celebrations and eating out in the past month. Nope, not an ounce of extra weight. It is all due to my cherrytarian diet, I bet!
No, kidding aside, I have been eating mostly healthy and added sugar-free, like I have been doing for the past six or so years.
The Post had an article this morning that next week will bring a major heat dome over most of the US, PNW excepted. Temperatures 10 to 20 degrees higher than normal in parts of the US including Des Moines, Chicago, etc. - but it’s headed my way. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate!
I think I need to look into that cherry diet, Bunsen. I ordered the hotty shorts in the new print for something different and another singlet. I needed that like a hole in the head!
Sabaray, a hole in the head is not a bad thing to have this summer - extra ventilation.
I feel your pain! The weather is going to be in mid-seventies here next week, I can only imagine how hot it will be for the rest of the nation.
Good work with the eating, Bunsen! Sabaray- those shorts look good. I have hardly been wearing all my singlets since it’s so hot. I can’t decide what to do for the race.
Just went to Trader Joes and found some new things i never saw before I thought I might mention -
- a “guilt free guacamole” (made w yogurt) that I can put on whole wheat toast - very satisfying breakfast or lunch
- prepackaged mozzarella stick w prosciutto wrapped around it - 120 cals - thought it would be a great on the go lunch w a piece of fruit or something
Always looking for healthful snack ideas I can pack and carry with me all day.
My husband buys those mozzarella wrapped sticks at COSTCO in huge quantities. Great for appetizers!
PG, I just mash avocado onto my toast and sprinkle with some sea salt - I love the smoked Maldon with avocado. And I am also guilty of buying those sticks at Costco! They go quickly at our house.
I need to have some kind of shirt on - just can’t bring myself to run in a sports bra. That may change if it truly gets that hot.
Crisp whole wheat toast, avocado, tomato slice, sea salt, fresh cracked pepper.
I don’t go to Costco (we go to Sam’s) so I’d never seen them before. Clearly I am behind the times!
Just did a yoga class. It is frickin’ hot! I am not a summer person to begin with - I can’t wait for fall. Above 80-85 degrees and I’m done.
@Pizzagirl, I found a race for you! Beat the Blerch is coming to Chicago on October 1st! 10k, half or full marathon! “Couches and cake at every aid station”! This would be a blast!
Wow, that’s great news for Chicagoland!
What is Blerch?
It’s from the Oatmeal webcomic. It’s hilarious (well, if you’re warped like I am). http://www.beattheblerch.com/
This thread led me to have avocado toast at First Watch for lunch! Topped with 2 eggs. It was SO good, but not quite enough food for me… I might have to consider it my restricted calorie day.
I’ve been eating a lot of added sugar this week (ice cream, brownies, etc.) – hey, I’m on vacation! No scale at the beach, so when I get home this weekend I’m sure I’ll not like the number on the scale.
LOL MoWC.
Tonight’s dinner - gazpacho. It’s too darn hot for anything else!
Wow, these last few posts were SO worth reading!
!!!
Well I had the choice of getting outside for exercise at 5:30pm tonight or not at all (S and his wife are here for dinner and we’re about to view all their wedding photos!). So hot as it might be at 88 degrees I headed out and did a mostly run, a little walk, 3 miles. You know, hot is hot and sweaty is sweaty - it didn’t kill me and I’m thrilled to have got out three days in a row. Tomorrow will be a bust exercise wise - working 1/2 day and then jumping in the car for a 4 hour Friday ride to the beach.
