Ohio- it’s a good day! My son won his Olympic distance tri which was in his Poconos neighborhood, too! He said the weather was terrible. Run was on what I would call trails. I’ve run on them but won’t anymore because while they aren’t bad, there are too many rocks for me and then there is the issue of bears…

3.5 miles for me for my 2nd highest month this year and the most time spent running (i.e. slower) for the month so far this year.

Congratulations Ohio!! How great that you left the young kids in the dust.

Yoga class this morning–only thing I could fit in. Renting vacation place for August and it was fun to go to my regular studio after being away for a few months. Going to Providence to help D move iin to her new place.

Congratulations Ohio, stellar performance. You did all us AARP members proud!

WAHOO for @ohiopublic ! I’m impressed.

DH and I did our wine country ride today and it was horrible. When we did it last year, it was 45 miles with 7 winery stops and I was tired, but not beaten up by the distance. The route today was adjusted because of construction and low turnout, and it was 21 miles with 2000 feet of climbing (all of it between 15 and 21 miles) before we got to the first winery/rest stop, and another two after that to the other winery–and at that point, it was only another 8 back to the start, mostly downhill. By the time we got to the first rest stop, I just wanted to be done. Should have stopped anyway, but we didn’t. My knees and glutes ache.

However, we did stop at a great farm stand on the way back. So I have lots of raspberries and blackberries in the freezer now.

Congratulations! Three cheers for you tri success, Ohio!

Sorry your ride didn’t measure up to last year’s, dmd. The fruit sounds wonderful, though.

Congrats to Wild Child, MoWC!

PG, hope FitBit irons out the sleep tracking issue. The other day, my new device stopped recording steps. Actually, it stopped displaying anything, briefly before coming back to life. Aggravating.

Thanks for the votes of confidence re the running bra. It’s not only the middle age midriff shape; it’s the texture, lol. Three kids have left their mark. I did my long run this morning at the gym. My recipe: 8 miles with a dash of boredom. After the work-out, H and I did a quick change of clothing and walked into the company town for a light lunch at the new Frontera Cocina. We split an avocado margarita for dessert. Don’t be puzzled  The avocado was blended in for its creamy texture, and the lovely flavors came from a squeeze of citrus, a hint of melon liquor, and of course, tequila. Such a pleasant reward after the running, a maybe a tiny bit healthy.

That margarita sounds fabulous!

I want one of those margaritas!!!

Yardwork is the exercise of the day.

And the weekend is done. Bummer! Finished it out with a 3 mile hot run w/a few intervals.

I LIKE avocado, but am not on “love it, love it!” train - unless it’s guacamole.

I’ve been really happy with my Alta. I haven’t paid much attention to the sleep other than my total sleeping time nightly and my weekly average. I do like seeing all that. Don’t miss the stair count all that much - though I find I still am THINKING about stair count often when I’m climbing stairs!

Abasket- that’s me! I go up the stairs at work saying One, two, three…"

What a great weekend for everyone! Big congrats, Ohio! Awesome job. Kudos to wild child as well - he is doing great!

Quick trip up north - lot of time in the car for a few short days, but beautiful weather - warm, but humidity was in the 65-75% range instead of the 94 - 100% - made a huge difference. Nice 10 mile run on a dedicated running/bike path, lots of walking and plenty of playtime with Sabadog and Sabapup. Their first time to the beach - Sabadog is a champion swimmer but he was ready to swim for Ohio from the Canadian lakeshore. After a bit he figured out that was not a good idea. Sabapup was thrilled to have plenty of playmates who were more than happy to throw frisbees and tennis balls repeatedly, so a good time was had by all. Now I have to go back to work!

I’ll try to catch up but you guys have been busy! Michael, you need to take care of yourself.

Glad you had a good trip, sabaray. Wasn’t the water freezing? I guess dogs don’t care!

Great article, Bunsen. Thanks for sharing.

Yeah, sabaray, I do need to be a little more careful - only have 9 more PT sessions left for the year, so I need to use them judiciously, i.e. avoid injuries, lol. Glad you had a good trip. Sounds like it was fun!

Shot my TRX Basics video yesterday for use on the website of the equipment store chain that’s going to feature me. Shot it at one of their stores with my camera only to discover that the file size is too large to send as an email attachment! Now I need to find out if they use Drop Box or some similar third party file share service. Technology - a blessing and a curse :).

Speaking of which, my son turned me on to a great strength training application he uses to structure his routines call Stronglift 5x5. Available free of charge from the OS app stores with a $10 charge for an upgraded version with more capabilities. It’s designed for those interested in a low rep, strength focused program and provides detailed structure to the exercises, sets, reps and weight progression. The premium version even takes into account the weight of your bars and the denominations of the plates you have and tells you how many of each plate to put on each side of the bar to get the desired weight. That made me laugh but is also appreciated for those moments when I don’t have enough oxygen going yo my brain to do the math myself ;).

Glad you had a good getaway Sabaray - and fun for the pups too!

MOWC - nice race by your son. Do you know if he has his bike shoes clipped in the pedals in the transition or puts them on immediately? My concern is running in bike shoes in the transition area.

I think I’m going to have to stop trail running. Left knee is still blown up from the downhill portion of the trail runs. Or just walk the downhills.

Ohio, have you seen the tri bike shoes that are “easy in, easy out”? Most triathletes I know keep their shoes clipped into the pedals and just slide their feet into the shoes when jumping on the bike. The tri specific shoes really facilitate this. And I hear you about those trail downhills - really pound your knees, calves and Achilles’ tendon particularly on the uneven surface!

Water wasn’t cold - certainly the deeper you went the cooler it was but it has been plenty warm up there and Erie is pretty shallow. Pups slept all the way home yesterday.

Michael, I have been able to share video files through google drive if they don’t use dropbox.

Ohio- I’m positive he has his shoes clipped in. His transitions in this race were ridiculous. (fast) 28 seconds in TI and 10 seconds in T2. The transition area was very easy at this race. If you have to run 200 yards on rocks or a carpet out of the water like in some races, it’s hard to know what to do. At 70.3 Worlds in Vegas in 2013 they had to run their bikes about 300 yards up a soaking wet carpet before they could mount. Dilemma was socks (which would be soaked when you got into the bike shoes) or no socks (which meant no socks for the 13.1 run, either. He went with no socks and had horrific blisters. His trail 10K on Saturday was 41:24 after 22.1 mile bike in 54 minutes. I don’t know how he does that and is still alive, to be honest.

MOfWC, your son is an iron man!!!

It sounds like there is a need for super fast drying socks (perforated neoprene?) that would dry during the bike ride. Mesh sling back bike shoes?

MOWC, those are some impressive times for your son!
