BB - I hope you are doing OK. It sounds as if you’re having some kind of a procedure today and I hope it brings relief or at least some answers. And I hope you do start a BC thread. I think there is more risk there than most (including me) are aware.
ohio and PG - gosh, I just hate moving. You are awesome parents for helping out like that!
Bunsen is having her advanced tests today for her hip problem.
We keep saying “this is the last kid move”, but somehow we keep getting roped into helping. Our son’s moves are particularly challenging because of the 10 bikes and all the electronics- not to mention the heavy treadmill.
3.4 miles this morning- 95% humidity and 73 degrees. This is getting really old.
My D called me to clarify a few things regarding her upcoming move, and I told her that I hoped there wasn’t a no-gun policy in her new building, as I am bringing my guns. She laughed. Of course she knows what side her gluten-free toast is buttered on
Walked a little less than 2 miles this morning (definitely not my regular pace)–went with the dog and felt a whole lot better. I’m spent the first 5 minutes looking at the ground thinking I should walk this way to prevent a fall and then decided that was pretty crazy and walked normally. I’m going to wait till I get the stitches out before I go back to working out. Depending on when I can get an appointment with my PCP–it will be Friday or Monday.
Moving is not fun!! It was AFTER helping my daughter (who turned 27 a few days ago) move the final bunch of her stuff that I tripped!!
I’m out of practice with squats this summer - need to get that routine back!
Spend a good part of the evening gardening which helped me to earn my steps for the day. Pulling weeds and trimming bushes - good stretching with my electric trimmer!
BB, I hope everything went ok today - been thinking about you!
Michael, thanks! Bookmarked. If I can get my glutes in the shape remotely approaching the glutes of the guy in those photos, I’ll be golden. B-)
Thanks, all! Got my buttshot today. I really hate needles in my veins, so I proposed that I would hold really still if they don’t knock me out. The doc was OK with it, so the procedure was done with just a local numbing and it went much quicker and was less stressful for me. Now the wait begins… In a week I should know if that was the problem spot. The worst part was no food or drink for 6 hours prior. I thought I would die, especially in the pre-op room, because the only reading material there was a Food Network magazine, lol.
Me too! I hate to be zonked out with vein-injected drugs, so that was a great victory. The nurse wanted to get a needle in my arm just in case, but I said they should just go straight for my butt because it is bigger and is much harder to miss.
Bunsen, you are one of the bravest people I know! Hope you are feeling okay today.
45 minutes of running with sprints and skips after work and 70 minutes of “MAF plus” running this morning - I don’t like to run so close together but I just don’t have it in me at the end of the day. I felt much better this morning than last night. I’m not feeling super confident about the half - perhaps I’ll have the honor of being DFL!
Bunsen I hope it works well for you and am glad you are done with it.
I have not posted much here in the last 2 weeks. My cold moved into my chest and after 3 doctor visits, numerous prescriptions and (finally) a chest xray it appears as if I either have pneumonia or something obstructing my left lung. If the prednisone I was started on yesterday does not start helping today I will be getting a CT scan on my lungs. Needless to say I have not gone for a run, a long walk or yoga for two weeks. I am just trying to get better and really miss my fitness activities.
One bright side is that with my decreased appetite, I have not gained any weight
FallGirl, sometimes your body just has to say “no”. And that is the right thing to do, to listen to it. When you are feeling well, the desire to get back to exercise will be there and will feel right!!
BB, glad that is over with and hope you made up for lost time with a good meal last night!
FallGirl- I’m so sorry! I hope they can figure it out and the prednisone helps.
Sabaray- you will not be anywhere near last! I can guarantee that!
2 nights of business dinners and alcohol have not helped my week. Keeping up the mileage, but tired.
The shoes I was wear-testing… I don’t like them very much. They seem to not have as much cushioning as I like in the forefoot. We got an email yesterday saying they were cancelling the wear test program on that shoe and we didn’t have to do any more surveys. They did want to know of any abnormal wear on soles or uppers. I thought that was strange. I’ve never had a wear-test cancel in the middle. We get to keep the shoes. I guess there was something they didn’t like about them and are starting over???
Sounds like a bummer pair and the company doesn’t want to waste anymore of your time or theirs on the product! So cool that you get to do that!
Working from home today - needed a break from the monotony of my desk on some pressing projects. My steps the last few days have been kind of pathetic during the day - even if I get up when my arm “buzzes” apparently I’ve been short of 250 steps for the hour to “count”. It is really an eye opener to see how much of office America spends sitting! I find at home I’ll take mental breaks that are more productive for both work and home (this few minutes on CC counts, right?) Work some, water the outdoor plants. Worksome, unload the dishwasher. Work some, fold and put away a load of laundry. Work some, check CC.
And my dog is gone for a couple of days out of town with my H so no dog walking steps to count either!
7.3 mile run last night, it was 91 degrees and 84% humidity. I don’t think August is my favorite month.
BB - you are very brave! I sure hope this shot gives you relief and you can go back to all your usual activities. You have been very patient!
abasket - I think working from home every once in a while is great. I can be really productive at home when I have tedious, detail-oriented things I am working on (complex spreadsheets or reports). There can be a lot of distractions and background noise in the office with frequent interruptions and it is so much quieter and easier to focus at home.
FallGirl - I am so sorry that you are still feeling so lousy! I sure hope the prednisone does the trick for you!
I think D and her fiance have almost settled on a venue and date for the wedding next summer. I’m still in sticker shock, but I know it will be beautiful.
abasket- YES on how much corporate America sits! I think everyone should have a tracker just to create awareness of the sitting. I’m not good at getting up and standing during meetings. If I could get up and WALK, I would, but I usually just slouch away in the chair. I was walking up and down the hall at home last night to get my 6000 steps over my run. The Altra doesn’t give me as many running steps as past trackers have. I don’t quite get 2000 steps a mile, so I have to scramble a little.
I DO like the wear testing. In the past, it seemed like I got a Brooks pair every 4 months or so (I think it was when they were developing the Pure line). I haven’t had a pair in a couple of years, and now these. They are very comfortable to wear and good except for needing more forefoot cushioning.
FallGirl, ouch!! If I were you, I would demand that CT scan. Lungs are not something to be messed with. Hope the shot will do what it is supposed to do.
Sabaray, you will rock that thing. It is too bad that I will not be able to join you. My doc grounded me for a few weeks until it is clear what is causing the pain. I guess I have to stick to the plan. Butt is doing ok today. Still too early to know if the shot is doing anything useful, but it is a sign that the doc did not miss the target (I did check the monitor while they were doing the thing - fascinating!)
Very interesting about the shoes, MOfWC. “Just keep the dud” Maybe the pair you got was one of the better ones, and maybe the other users reported way more wear, so they decided to cancel the trial early? I love the Pure line, BTW. Good job testing that line! I ran 3 marathons in Brooks PureCadence.
Re: steps per mile. I know mine undercounts the distance because it thinks my stride is shorter (my actual steps are gigantic). I guess I can adjust it in the profile, but I decided not to mess with it. Maybe you can adjust your parameters.
I’ve been surprised how “close” the tracker is - or seems to be - I can leave the house w/7K steps on my wrist and sure enough when my other running app shows me at 2 miles running, my tracker explodes because I’ve met my set daily goal of 11,000 steps - but yeah, stride will make a difference - I’m probably super “average”!!!
