This is pretty cool. It’s a watch face for the Garmin watches and it’s free. I did it! Synced it up and it’s really cool.

^^So cool!
Mr. finally dusted off his Fenix 3HR and really liked the fact that it can alert him to his calendar events and texts as well as show steps and his biking stats!
He did not like that Fenix registers about a quarter fewer steps than his Fitbit. Lol!
My quads are sore after the ride! Good sore, not “I can’t make a step” sore.
20,000 steps today in Vienna!
So, Bunsen, what computer does your husband use on his bike? Does it interface with the Fenix? What cycling stats does the Frnix give him?
Bunsen- is it hard to balance on the Elliptigo? Glad you like it so far!
Easy 2 miles for me this morning (temps are creeping up some) since I have a 5K in the morning. Not expecting great things. It’s at 8:30 and will not be cool.
Re: balancing on Elliptigo. I was scared chickens… to try it, but as soon as I got on it, I was quite comfortable. If one can run and ride a bike, one can handle the Elliptigo Arc! The major difference between the Arc and a bike are the turning circle (the Arc has a much longer frame, hence the larger turning circle). Also, I have not been able to let go off the handlebar while riding and felt that I needed to hang onto the handlebar with both hands, so hand turn signals might be an issue. The Arc is perfectly OK on rolling hills, but for novices, I would not recommend riding it on trails with lots of sharp turns. BTW, my arms got quite a workout even though I was not moving them.
Over Mr.'s protests, I bought a TRX. Mr. the Safety Nellie inspected it and gave his green light for me to hang it on the bathroom door.
Victory!
Michael - LOL, no bike computer whatsoever! We are talking about that ugly mountain bike that no one wants to steal out of the truck no matter where we leave it. I will have to ask what stats his Fenix tracks - Mr. is sitting next to me, but his head is engrossed in an Excel Solver problem.
He told me that his average speed was 15 mph - and that is the speed limit on the trail.
Yay for the TRX Bunsen, enjoy it!! In case you aren’t aware, if hanging it on a typical residential interior door on the side that opens outward towards where you will be using the TRX, rather than hanging the TRX over the top of the door, the safer practice is to slide the door mount down the hinge side of the door from the top. That way there is no chance that the outward pressure when you are hanging on the TRX will spring the doorknob latch or cause the door jam to fail where the latch mechanism inserts. If you are working out on the side of the door that swings inward to shut, then that’s not usually an issue since the entire door frame supports the door against the pressure of your weight.
Ok so here’s a new one: has anyone ever heard of an accessory spleen?
I’m not worried, I’m just amused. Another thing to add to my dysfunctional body list
Thanks, Bunsen! Sounds good. I think you will like the TRX, too.
15k+ steps every day in New Zealand so far! My knees are cranky at 10k.
romani, I’m starting to think it might be shorter to keep a list of what is working properly in your body! That is awful, I can’t understand how someone can have so many issues. I hope you can still manage to get up and around, and do things that you enjoy.
15K steps in New Zealand. Wow, people on here are going to some amazing places to get their exercise!
I’m going to check out that Body Glide that you all recommend. They have something that I can get at Target, that is called Body Glide Foot, anti-blister. Wouldn’t that be wonderful if that’s all it took?
I was able to run 5 miles yesterday without too much blister pain. I’m not sure if it’s because I was running slow, didn’t run two days in a row, or was attempting to come down really light on my feet (that’s hard). My usual running style is leaning forward like I’m going to fall on my face, smacking the pavement. Not something you’re going to see in the how-to running videos!
"Also, socks make a huge difference. They do. Never run in cotton blends! I turn my socks inside out and trim all micro fibers and threads that stick out. Those little buggers cause a lot of trouble over long distances! I also like Injinji socks. Yup, the “hobbit socks.”
Okay, I just tracked those down and supposedly can get them at REI. Last day of the big sale, so I’m going biking and climbing now, then off to REI. Thanks for the info!!
Well- that wasn’t a spectacular 5K! My race started at 8:30 and I ran 2 warm up miles before 7:45 and then was on my feet watching the 10K until my race time. I didn’t prepare well last night and had more wine than I should have at a dinner party and I think I was a little dehydrated to start even though I drank a bunch of water. I’ve run this race a bunch, so I had comparisons, but it just felt really hot to me out there. Well, it WAS hot! 74-78 or so and humid. I was just a little slower than I thought I would be in each mile. My daughter thought I started out a little too slow, but I sort of did that on purpose so I wouldn’t die! I did decrease each mile, even with a slightly downhill first mile and climbs in the next two miles. The great thing was I was running with a friend who hasn’t raced in several years but is a good runner. She said she wanted to try to hang with me (she’s younger). Well, she was pulling away from me in the 3rd mile and I was letting her go, and she suddenly pulled over at 3 miles (just 1/10th to go) and puked! That’s hardcore! She finished 2 seconds behind me! So-29:33 for 2nd in my age group (of 19). I had announced that I would run about 28:33. Oh well. No results yet on my corporate team. We had a guy finish a minute or more ahead of me but he was much lower in his age group, and another guy who I have no idea of his time. Some days you just don’t do as well as you think you should. It felt really hard. 5Ks hurt a lot! The shirts are always terrible, too. It’s a great community event, though, with big turnout. My daughter was sub 55 for her 10K, which was right what she was supposed to do on this course. It was a course PR for her.
New Zealand sounds like a great place to get those steps in. The Fitbit app offers challenges now for a “single” - virtual hiking challenges which are kind of cool.
Bunsen, I’m really impressed with all the new things you’re trying!
@busdriver11, I also like the Balega Hidden Comfort socks which are also part of REI’s sale, I think. You might want to check those out, too.
Did a bit over 12 hills miles Saturday followed up by some retail therapy with D who was visiting. Pup walks on Sunday, 4 miles this morning followed by a Reformer class.
How was the race, MOWC?
Good job on the hills sabaray! See above- we cross posted! Adding that the woman who beat me is only 60 - a mere child in our age group. She’s also the one I edged out in July in the final stretch to win that gift card. She got me back today!
Sounds like a good effort under tough conditions. I felt like I’d been slacking on my route choices, so forced myself to hit some hills, a decision I was quickly regretting. It was in the low 50’s here this morning but is quickly warming.
New Zealand! Wow. Enjoy, CD! That is Mr.'s dream trip.
Good job racing, MOfWC and daughter!
Just watched a great show on CNBC - Adventure Capitalists. Bunch of VCs going on wilderness adventures with entrepreneurs to test the products and make investment decisions. Cool gadgets!
Did a power yoga class yesterday and a trail walk (3 mi). First power yoga since my accident. Realized that I had bruised my knees–felt it in yoga. Today, I did 40 minutes on an elliptical machine that H bought yesterday (used) for vacation place. It is in great shape–just like the ones in the gym. H also got a set of weights.
Oldest D and a group of her friends are all stranded at our house because of Hermine (no ferries leaving from island to Cape Cod). I have all four of them cooking for me–making sauce from my tato harvest.
