JJ is sort of like Subway - except you don’t exactly build your sandwich - I think there are more set choices. Probably not the worst choice out there - I’m just not much of a sandwich person - and the fact that they go out of their way to avoid ANYTHING healthy on the sandwich - well, it’s hard to smile and nod on that one!
I’m terrible. As I said, they order from them a couple times a week - I can hear EVERY chip that is crunched so I know!! (abasket’s personal pet peeve - noisy eaters!) As @notrichenough said, they offer free delivery. Well, the freakin one that delivers to us is literally .5 miles away from our office door - just on the edge of our campus with tree lined sidewalks etc. Every once in a while I say, “you guys should just walk and pick up your sandwich - it’s like an 8 minute walk there and back!” (snarky abasket…) But really - it IS! But no, never once.
One the plus side, the one person who liked it (and also was lunch-less today) had 3 large helpings of my salad!
One problem I have with JJ’s is that if you want chips, the bags are HUGE. Sometimes if I do eat a sub, I want a few chips to put on the sandwich for some crunch. The JJ bags are a couple of servings and tons of calories. Also, there is a lot of bread. I like WhichWich for sandwiches.
I had Bi Bim Bap today for lunch, which we go out for at least once a week. Sometimes on the 2nd visit to that restaurant I get the Korean tacos, which are not huge and are not a terrible choice.
It is still hot and humid here- getting tired of it. The mornings are getting dark, too. I’ve done well this week about candy bowls- avoiding, that is!
I like WhichWich as well - and those Korean tacos. I still need to go back for bibimbap. I don’t know if our location is going to make it - it’s out of the way and not heavily trafficked. That would be a bummer.
Cooling trend predicted for us - a weak cold front moving through tonight means temps at least ten degrees cooler tomorrow. Ran a bit over 3 this morning and felt very sluggish, but then went on to a Pilates session with my trainer and actually felt a lot better after. I was able to do quite a bit more - I think adding a Reformer class to the mix has been a good thing. Tomorrow I am trying a “circuit strength” class which includes kettlebells, handweights and TRX.
I have it hanging off the bathroom door, so it can be used only for some exercises, but not the whole complex. Mr promises that he will make me a contraption, we shall see how long it will take. I think I will officially ask for it as my Christmas gift. That should be enough time… although I looked at his calendar and he is scheduled to travel quite heavily.
Who got me onto the Mantra bracelets? Bromfield? LOVE my “Do it anyway” and have ordered Let it Go, Just Run and Grace. It is thin and gorgeous and great to wear with other jewelry. They have them for me, too, by the way!
I am so aggravated. Woke up this morning with a cold., struggled through the last day of work, and now I feel awful. What kind of exercise can you do with a cold, that doesn’t make you worse?
My battery is dying, so I probably can’t respond. But if there’s any advice from the experts…I don’t need a week off of exercise!
Bus, do you have free weights? That’s what I do when I have a cold. Any cardio seems to exacerbate the nasty effects of a cold for me, but weights are ok. Hope you will be back in the saddle soon! Plenty of fluids…
busdriver, my recommendation would be that if the cold is severe that you take a day off. If you feel you must do something, do some light stretching. Take a casual walk to your tolerance. Nothing strenuous. Nothing wrong with taking a day off if you are sick. Working out, as much as we enjoy it and as beneficial as it is, is a stressor on our body’s immune systems. Usually not a bad thing but if your immune system is engaged in fighting off a bug, why give it more to cope with? Plus, personally, I find it very uncomfortable to place heavy demand on my oxygen delivery systems if I’m all congested and runny nosed. Everything is just harder to do because I can’t deliver oxygen efficiently to meet demands, whether lifting or doing cardio.
Thanks for the advice! I do have free weights, bunsen, so maybe I’ll break those out, or go rock climbing. And MichaelNKat, I could probably take a day off, but sometimes these dang things run for a week…or two. I just got off a flight and my ears are so plugged, that even loaded up with Sudafed and Afrin, I thought my eardrums might burst on the descent. I was hoping to go on a long bike ride tomorrow, but maybe if I just take it really easy, it will be good. I hate to lounge around for an entire week.
Maybe I’ll just lay on the couch and try some of that Marionberry Ellenos! I keep eyeing that at Whole Foods.
That was me, @MomofWildChild! (I think you meant, They have them for men, too …) They’re somewhat addictive, aren’t they? I pass the place I bought mine on the way to/from golf, and have been considering getting one more, possibly “Grace.”
Headed to the gym in a few minutes. For some reason I was wide awake w-a-y too early this morning. No doubt I’ll crash after dinner.
I LOVE chocolate milk as a recovery. I always bring some for runs 10 miles or over, so I can drink it immediately after. In fact, the last couple miles I think I speed up thinking that I’m running toward my chocolate milk!!
Tomorrow we’re on our way to MA for my ___ th HS reunion. I’ve skipped a lot of them over the years since I didn’t stay in contact with very many classmates, but somehow, being FB friends with so many has brought us all closer. We start tomorrow evening at a local pub with drinks and a dart tournament. Then the big class dinner Saturday night, and 9 holes of golf on Sunday morning for those who are interested. Let’s just say my golf game is better than my dart throwing skills … H. as always, is a good sport about accompanying me. He can always find something to talk about with people he’s just met.
Wow, a dart tournament - hope you are pals with everyone and no enemies!!! Is that a regular activity in that area?!
Whenever I see this chocolate milk thing, I can’t help but think of when my nieces were in preschool - they belonged to a Saturday morning bowling league thingy called “The Chocolate Milk Gang” - because at the end of bowling all the kids got a big glass of chocolate milk! Got the kids there every time!
