How is your injury doing, Bunsen?
I took my first ever tumble this morning - tripped over a tree root. I landed mostly on my hands, but did manage to bounce my chin off the ground (trail, not concrete). I’m going to look like someone cold-cocked me for a few days, just in time for our trip to Philly to attend my daughter’s voice recital. Aargh. Aside from that, it was a fabulous run! 9.5 miles & could have gone further. I cannot figure out why some days I can barely eke out 3 miles, & other days 9.5 feels easy!
Ouch, Gertude! Hope nothing is injured, makeup should take care of the rest.
MOfWC, thanks for asking. Still cannot run - impact makes the pain worse, but walking and Elliptigo seem to be OK (meaning the pain is not getting worse or even inproves). Doc wants me to try a special PT. I made a few calls, so will try that soon. Doc is also suspicious that something in my belly is pressing on the joint and pushing it out of place. There are cases where fibroids did it to women… So I am checking that out, too. Other than that, I am fine.
That tree root has some NERVE!!! Hope the pain isn’t too great Gertrude.
Well, there is some support for my doc’s suspicion! There is apparently a connection between SI joint etc. pain and uterine problems, so no wonder doc wanted that ruled out.

Tree roots should not jump out at you like that! Feel better!
Damned trees! Who do they think they are - spreading those roots jist like that! Gonna go print a document instead of reading it on my screen - that will show those trees!!
It’s funny - I was running on the concrete sidewalk next to the dirt trail & I passed a runner coming towards me on the dirt & I thought “I should be running on the dirt like he is to have less impact on my legs and feet.” Famous last words.
Ugh, Gertrude. Sorry! That’s my move!
Bunsen- this is frustrating, I’m sure! I hope they can figure it out. I’m glad you have the Elliptigo!
Bunsen - how is the Elliptigo? Still enthused? Favorite ways to use it?
Still love it! Favorite ways… Just take it to the trail and amuse the other trailblazers.
It is definitely tougher than biking, so I am not at the 20+ miles per ride stage yet.
This looks like a cool gadget for runners and walkers:

^^^I’m not one to rush this season AT ALL, but ^^^good stocking stuffer!
And how is Mr. Ohio doing with his instapot?
@GertrudeMcFuzz – jumping tree roots will get you, indeed. I’m slightly notorious for how often I trip and fall. I’ve figured out that trail running requires serious focus on my part! I can’t look more than about five feet ahead or I trip over rocks, roots, my own feet, the dog’s leash, etc. The last time I went in to have the cracked ribs checked (when I tripped over a root about two years ago), the doctor thought I was drug-seeking because “you were in here with that reason four years before this”–when I tripped over the curb. Needless to say, I didn’t get the good stuff.
However, I do seem to be getting better, it’s been a while since I actually injured myself when I tripped. (Knock wood with crossed fingers!)
Instant Pot report. One time for oatmeal. Amazon privileges have been suspended. Maybe I’ll put it on Craigslist!
Hope you aren’t injured too badly and makeup covers up the bruises , gertrude.
H and I got our first box from Blue Apron today so he cooked a pork chop and sweet potato salad. So far so good.
Ohio, do you eat HB eggs? It is super easy to cook a batch in Instapot.
Tell us what you and wife like to eat Ohio, and some of us will hook you up with Instapot recipe #2!!!
Was thinking of Gertrude tonight as I ran on a even but gravel trail tonight. I haven’t had much non-pavement running experience (except that night run through the fields!!). It did feel more “slick” and that’s why I was thinking of Gertrude! Actually didn’t do too bad considering I was out in the sun for most of it and it was still low 80’s.
I notice that when I’m running my upper body/shoulders are kind of stiff and “tense” - I run carrying my phone usually and always have headphones on. Any suggestions??? Not a huge fan of the arm thingys to hold my phone but do use one on occasion. I find myself wanting to shake out my arms and shoulders to relax them.
I try to remind myself to relax my shoulders. I tend to lift them up. It’s fine to shake your arms out. I don’t run with my phone, which shocks people, because it is truly the only time my phone is not within reach. I have a little problem…
I like my small iPod because I clip it on my shorts or skirt or put it in a jacket pocket.
Daughter and son in law took us out for my birthday dinner tonight. It was fun.
The debacle over the train stopping the VIA marathon runners continues. Boston race director refuses to honor adjusted times. I think if the VIA race can adjust the times wi a fair degree of accuracy, Boston should accept them. It’s a shame. VIA was the last chance to qualify for 2017 Boston.
