I think I wear the Ghost 8’s and this is my 3rd pair, I really like them.
I’ll have to look at sparkle skirts, I thought they didn’t have shorts underneath so I must be looking at the wrong thing.
50 minutes running yesterday and 30 today. The weather has been frightful so not much running this week.
I have a bit of a dilemma so asking for advice. Every year we travel to visit our D and run this race together. I like this race mostly because they have great race shirts and I’ve worn them a lot. I have already signed up for the 5k. Now D is injured and is not healing (if she would go to the doctor that might be good) so she won’t be able to run. H says there is no reason to run if she isn’t so he isn’t running.
But I’ve been running all summer and looking forward to doing one race. S and fiancé have bought a house a couple of hours away from D and are using that weekend to paint before they move in. We told S that weekend was bad because we had this commitment. H wants to go to S’s and help him paint and have D drive and meet us there.
It’s not that I don’t want to help S, but I’ve been planning on visiting D who is going through a hard time. And I’ve been looking forward to this stupid race.
Not sure what to do. H says I don’t want to go to S’s. That’s not true and I’m also worried about descending on S and fiancé when they are trying to move.
Update on that low-laying tree branch: Yesterday, the branch with the note on it (which begged that it not be cut down because people touch it for good luck) – was cut down! When I walked by, the branch was on the ground with the note still attached. And someone had written on the note that the branch was dead and hurting the tree, so it had to come down. So much for luck.
The branch a few feet away – the one that got me – was still there, but someone had painted it bright orange.
I’m about to go for a run – curious what the next chapter will be.
Deb, if the distance doesn’t allow for you and H going separate ways (which is what I would advocate for!) could you do race day(and maybe the night before) with D and then travel to S’ for the last half of the weekend?
Went back to lunchtime spin class today! It’s been awhile because I just prefer to be outside when the weather is nice. There were only 3 of us which floors me - a health science campus at lunchtime for free - can’t believe there aren’t more people who take advantage of it! The class used to be 30 minutes and now is 45. I can manage 45 though an hour would be tough with work time. And my body can surely use the extra 15 minutes of exercise!
@deb922 – does your husband know this is important to you? Have you told him that in those precise words? (IMHO, all too often people try to be subtle about what they want and it just doesn’t work.)
I’m really intrigued with the tree pruning, fireandrain - you’ll have to keep us posted. I also like abasket’s idea of splitting the weekend if possible.
Here’s what is wrong with diet/nutrition in our country - I just say this food video on FB and am about ready to vomit! Does this look good to anyone!!!
Worked out with my trainer today-lots of body weight exercise and free weights. Walked to gym and back. Really want to start wearing my Fitbit Charge again–wrist still a little red. Trainer says I should send photos to Fitbit–not sure they could do anything other than refer me to info on website about how to clean strap.
Sabaray–hope you feel better. Plans for pups during marathon sound good. My dog goes stir crazy in a kennel–usually have a pet/house sitter.
Plant Mom–good luck with your toe.
Deb922–you have been looking forward to the race and you should do it–hope you figure out a way to run the race and still see/help your D and S.
LOL - street corn is a popular fair food around here. It is actually delicious. it’s just roasted corn with a bit of creamy sauce & chili powder. Those pictures make it look nasty, but I’m actually a fan.
Street corn is very popular around here as well - lots of “fancy” small plate restaurants offer it. That particular example looks very nasty, but it’s usually grilled or roasted as part of the preparation, not boiled.
I can get on board with the butter and the chili lime and a little of the mexican cheese…but the butter + ALL that mayo + fully coated in cheese - why bother with the corn!!
@Bromfield2 I have been known to attach my Alta to my bra strap if I’m doing something with my hands and water and I don’t want to risk it getting wet.
You need to go to Cava Mezze on your DC trip - now they have street corn you would like!
Ideally I’d get a sitter for the pups but this is truly more like a vacation for them. Mr. Sabaray thinks it looks nicer than our hotel - 35 wooded acres, a pond for swimming, a “suite” they can share with beds to lounge on, multiple walks a day and an hour of play time - heck, it’s better than home! I think I’d rather stay there than run.
Heavy rain here, just ran out with the pups for a quick walk.
Ok, here’s an off the wall question for all of you. Do any of you have dreams in which you visualize yourself achieving an athletic goal or accomplishment that you have set for yourself? I frequently have dreams about accomplishing a very specific move on parallette bars (L-Sit up into a hand stand and then doing hand stand presses). In the dream I am coaching myself through the movements and muscle isolations needed to do it and I’m telling myself that it’s attainable. Very weird, lol.
I don’t have running dreams, Michael, but I do have dreams about Pilates, frequently involving the very moves I am working on. I think with anything you are concentrating so hard on while you’re trying to accomplish it it’s bound to imprint on your subconscious mind in some way.
Feeling much better today, Coach reviewed my log and advised that I should take three rest days if I wasn’t 100% today, but I feel ready for tomorrow. Cutting the circuit class for now as I think that really aggravated my ankle. Not as much rain as I thought we were going to get and tomorrow should just be intermittent showers, which could happen during the race (or it could be a monsoon, who knows). This is my Friday pep talk - people might want to block my posts for the next month!
I have many weird running dreams. The following two I have a lot:
I’m a runner in high school as an older adult and competing. Throughout the dream as I compete I keep asking myself if anyone will notice if I am older or wonder why I’m still competing? (For all you dream analyzers out there, I went to three high schools my sophomore year and competed on 3 different teams. I can also remember the details of every race I lost but not on the ones that I won.)
I’m running in a race and my legs will only work in slow motion. As hard as I try I can’t figure out why my legs won’t go faster?
I visualize successful outcomes but very rarely do I dream about winning (except in my high school adult races!)
Unfortunately, I don’t think years of therapy or medication will solve my problems unless I stop running!
I have had a few running dreams but I really have trouble remembering dreams!
5 1/2 Colorado miles. I do NOT want to get out there at 6am in the dark! Once I get a mile in, I’m fine. My legs were tired. 151.3 miles for September, which is a little light for a month but there were only 4 Saturdays. Oh- another guy at this conference ran a route this morning higher above the Broadmoor with more hills (he’s from Boston and he died) and JUST missed seeing a 6 foot tall black bear. Some construction workers asked him if he got a picture of it (he had stopped to take a scenery picture). No thanks. I’ll take the bunnies and deer.
