Deb, you’re an all-star! That is funny. One of my best runs ever was after drinking too much red wine the night before. I’ve used it as an example ever since of why drinking red wine is good for you!
Congrats Deb!
I deleted the comment about being hung over but oh well! Went out with D and her super fit friends. So fun to be around young people who are into having fun and being fit. Makes me feel young and everyone is very complementary to me.

Training note to self: Drink red wine the night before the Thanksgiving Turkey Trot.
That is super great to hear! Mine has rarely been affecting me. Down with the plantar!!
I hate Bart Yasso! (kidding) The Yasso 800s were really a thing back in my “good” running days and those suckers HURT!!! (For those of you who, blessedly, aren’t familiar… Bart Yasso said if you ran (8 or 10?) 800s on the track at your expected marathon time, you were ready. I.E. if you wanted to run a 3:49 marathon, you would run the Yasso 800s in 3:49 each. It was actually a pretty good predictor.
Thank you all for your good wishes on my daughter’s wedding. The love, sheer joy and over the top energy that infused the night was just incredible. After the cocktail hour, the party was like a 5 hour functional fitness/cardio workout in formal attire, lol. I’m exhausted!
237 guests of which about 100 were 25-32 year olds from the worlds of professional dance, musical theatre, fitness and party event industries. On their feet the entire night. And the food, omg, the food. Lots of on demand refueling :D.
Trying to catch up on everyone’s posts here before brunch for all the guests who stayed overnight. Be back later.
It sounds wonderful, Michael! Congratulations again.
Happy Birthday Plantmom!
I wish I could “love” your post MNK. Love, joy and energy - it can’t get any better than that!
Happy Birthday plantmom.
3.1 miles for a 36.1 mile week. It was 68 and breezy, and for some reason I got very warm. I didn’t start until after 8am, and wound up taking off my shirt and tucking it in the back of my shorts. It did feel good to be running in just the sports bra again (new favorite- Oiselle Verrazano Lux), but this weather is crazy. My legs were very tired and I was glad to get it done.
My house guest of 7 weeks is moving out. She spent her first night at her new apartment last night, and will work on hauling off her stuff this week. It’s been OK, but I’m ready to have one less car in the driveway, for one thing!
That’s a long time to have a house guest. You are a better person than I am!
I have an online spreadsheet to share with my coach and noted that yesterday I was not happy with my run, that it hadn’t gone well and she pointed out to me that those are better training runs than the ones that are all rainbows and unicorns. I’m hoping the rainbows and unicorns show up in two weeks!
Today is a rest day. Mr. Sabaray and I took the pups to the park, which they thoroughly enjoyed. We inspected every tree, bush and leaf that we came across. We then headed to our local farm supply store for a few city slicker items - we’d hung bird feeders with sailing line that held up really well for many years but the squirrels finally got the best of the line and down they came. I have the supervisory and ladder holding role. It’s a beautiful day here.
That’s interesting, sabaray. We are certainly our own harshest critics! No doubt your marathon will be very hard. They always are. The feeling you will have WHEN you cross that finish line will be terrific, though. Try to remember that part from your last one!
@MichaelNKat – any party with 237 guests would completely exhaust me, but it sounds like you had a wonderful time. Congrats to your daughter and son-in-law.
Since my 5K race that I’d planned for today was postponed a week (although the nasty weather that caused the postponement didn’t really appear), I headed to the park for a hard run today and did fast quarter-miles with half-mile slower recovery bits (but not walking) and ended up with just over 5 miles (and six fast segments at paces from 9 to 10 minutes) (hoping to get to 9:30 pace for my next 5K…). There were bits of tree all over the paths (we did get some winds yesterday but not the 60 mph gusts that were predicted) and lots of pine cones but the air was incredibly sweet-smelling after the winds and rains we did get.
The Smith Rock 15-mile trail run next May opened for entries this morning and I pulled out the credit card and entered. Now I have to actually train for it. Of course, I immediately had an “ohmigod what have I done?” moment.
I like the way you prep for a 5K Deb! Sounds like a lot more fun that way!
MK, you’ll be on cloud nine for awhile I’m sure - hope today and the brunch gave you time to visit more with people.
Is it Plantmom’s B-day? A weekend away from the internet and I’m lost…if so, may your year ahead be happy and fit!
High fives to everyone and their activity the last couple of days. Always truly inspiring to come back and see and “imagine” everyone out doing something active!
BB, have you been in the middle of that horrible storm and wind out northwest? Weirdly, at our cottage in Ontario, one of the news channels we get is Seattle (right - huh?!) - I was watching these FOOLS at the shore letting the waves crash on them - even a kayaker out there - frightening!
I had a terrible, terrible crisis on the way up north yesterday. We stopped at a gas station to fill up before crossing the border - I took the dog for a quick business around the gas station. 10 minutes after we were back on the road I noticed - my Fitbit was gone!!! YIKES. We quick turned around. I feared a smashed Fitbit on the concrete. Nope. I checked everywhere, nothing. Went inside and asked - the fine Speedway staff quickly said “nope, nothing turned in!” I even tried syncing my app over the garbage can in case I dropped it in there. No luck. Stopped again today on the way back “just in case” - after the cold talk I had with the Speedway cashier (my H who is in law enforcement was also there) we would not be surprised if they had found it - but weren’t giving it back. Just weird. Claimed they had “no place” where they kept lost stuff. Today’s cashier said, “no one would probably turn THAT in”. And then, “someone probably is just going to sell it”. I gave her a little push, but she would barely make eye contact with me. What can you do??
I actually finally figured out that I MUST have lost it when I took my sweatshirt off right outside the car because I remember that the step reminder vibrate came as we were getting off the exit and I remember that I completed my 250 steps and got a vibrate just as I was finishing walking the dog - about 40 feet away from my car.
So I called Fitbit. I had to push HARD but I finally got them to agree to send me a replacement. Those bands don’t have any safety clasp - if the little holes come undone - it’s OFF. At first they just offered me 25% off a purchase on Fitbit.com - I said, “I have dealt with your customer service twice with no beneficial results for me (the first being a major syncing problem on the HR) - at 25% I will just purchase at Costco where I can get better customer service and spend the same amount of $$!”
Anyway…I feel NAKED and have NO IDEA how many steps I have taken, etc. and I HATE IT!!! Hopefully will have the replacement by the end of the week. In the meantime, who wants to offer to text me at work every hour to remind me to get moving!!! ![]()
Also, yes the weather is crazy! I was sitting on the beach on Lake Huron Canada side yesterday in a tank top and shorts on October 15 - and tomorrow it’s the 80’s! I won’t complain. But admit the humidity is awful today.
Wow, Michael!! Congrats!
Happy birthday, PlantMom!
Well, the storm fizzled out before it reached our house! Lots of rain, some gusts of wind, but nothing like the craze in OR where a tornado touched diwn (!) or on the WA shoreline. We did not even lose power, but I was prepared just in case with candles, mulling spices, red wine, and our gas fireplace.
Survived! It rained today hard, too, so we did not get out to the trail.
My cats are having a bad day. They have been exiled to the laundry room so they would not try to escape outside while I put the final coat of paint on the door. It looks great!
I’m glad you didn’t lose power, Bunsen! It sounded like a terrible storm.
Abasket- what a disaster! I bet they kept your Fitbit! It’s not worth even getting out of bed if you don’t have your Fitbit! I feel like the c,asp on the Alta is pretty secure, but I have a keeper ( came with the replacement colored bands) on it, too. I’m glad you are getting a replacement.
Oh no, abasket. I had to take my Fitbit off when the doc put me out, and the first thing I thought of when I woke up was my Fitbit! Hope you get your replacement soon.
Weights and pushups today.
I’ve been lurking for a week. Just not inspired to write, but I have been following everyone else.
Last Monday I agreed at the last minute to join a friend for a 10K in Boston – a women’s-only race. It was a stunningly gorgeous day, the route was spectacular, and I had a very speedy race (despite a logjam right after the start where everyone came to a halt and had to walk for several feet). It was inspiring to run surrounded by a few thousand women.
I survived my HS reunion (got several compliments on how fit I looked), but have been fighting a cold ever since, which has made me sluggish.
