Congratulations to those as appropriate for weddings, races, birthdays, etc!
I’d feel naked without my Fitbit, too, @abasket. I don’t understand why all the models don’t have a regular watch strap type buckle, like the Charge HR. Much more secure, IMO.
We’re off to FL for 10 days. I’m bringing my exercise gear, as always. I most likely won’t be checking in here, though since I’m not taking my computer. And no promises about going back to catch up when I get back – things move so fast here!
In the GREAT news department, S should be at our place in Cambridge when we return. He has finished his 1 year assignment in South Korea, and will spend a few days visiting friends and family before driving to his next (Air Force) base on the FL panhandle. I’m not thrilled with his next “job,” but he’s very excited about it. He’ll be based in FL for 6 months out of the year and then sent anywhere in the world for the next 6. Rinse and repeat for a total of 3 years. His current plan is to leave the AF after that and go to grad school for an MBA. I’m fine with the 6 months in FL part; not so fine with the other 6 months. I do my best not to worry too far ahead …
Did anyone see that gorgeous moon? Sabapup and I took a little stroll last night to get a good view of the moonrise. Absolutely fabulous and still beautiful this morning when I did a very easy 2 miles followed up with a pup walk.
CBB, enjoy your vacation and extended “vacation” with time with your son when you return!!! 10 days without a computer - that’s a lifetime!! Ha ha! When we are at our cottage we have - somewhat by choice - no internet unless we go into a small town and loiter outside or inside their public libraries to hog off the free wifi - which we and others TOTALLY do . It’s somewhat a blessing and really truly a good mental break to be without that connection for short periods of time. ( But, 10 DAYS!!!) Enjoy!!
Thanks for the sympathy for my long gone Fitbit…I will still be curious if SOMEHOW someone returns it to Fitbit and then return to me. I may have to order those replacement bands just to get the little thingy that secures the band on. A keeper?
Thanks for the birthday wishes. I took too much food and not enough steps but other than that, had a quiet but lovely day with my husband. I have a new phone–the iphone 7–that’s going to take a little getting used to. It’s larger than the 5 I’m moving up from, thus fits different in the flip belt. I’m hoping its water resistance will carry over to sweat resistance, lol. Out for a run with it now.
Good job on the 10K, fireandrain. I’m glad your reunion went well!
Have a great trip, CBB! It’s supposed to be beautiful here with a slight cooldown on the way.
Darn about the MIA Fitbit, abasket. Fingers crossed for a quick replacement.
More congratulations, Michael, on your dd’s marriage. What a fantastic day for you all.
Yes to rainbows and unicorns, sabaray. Your pup walks sound glorious. Is your ankle holding up? Wishing the best for you!
CBB- I’m glad your son will be with you for awhile and stateside for 6 months!
sabaray- YES! Loved the moon this morning. It was dark when I started and the moon was so pretty and it made me glad I was out there- even though I wasn’t sure I wanted to be!
Currently in Cambridge, waiting to leave for the airport …
@PlantMom - look at you, posting on CC while running! Is that as dangerous as texting while driving??
@abasket - back when I had a different fitness tracker, I bought a “keeper” for it since it had a a 2-pronged clasp. Here’s a link: http://www.bitbelt.com The company was pretty new, so they sent me 2 for the price of one. Anyway, the keeper worked really well and I never had an issue with the tracker coming unclasped.
Re: no computer for 10 days – it’s my choice not to haul it with me. I do have my iPhone, but I find it’s kind of a pain to keep up with CC on that.
I travel with a phone and iPad unless it is a longer trip and I feel I’ll need my work laptop. Most things I can handle on the iPad, and it is SO much easier to lug on a trip.
Six weeks later and I’m back in business! The series of cracks on Friday were good sounds! I was able to squat moderate weight today within my working reps and experienced zero problems. i was afraid I would see an increase in strength but my body treated me well. I’m extremely grateful. Now if I just could’ve told my past self not to do those stupid leg raises! :))
Back from wedding travel–fun to see my brother/sil and cousins. Kept up yoga by doing 20-30 minutes with You-tube sessions. Two weeks left of the Sadhana.
Abasket–hope you find your Fitbit. I’ve had my Charge HR fall off, especially because I’ve been putting it on so that it isn’t snug against my skin and causing a rash.
CBB–enjoy your trip. Congratulations on your D’s wedding, Michael–sounds like a great event.
Obsessive FitBit story. It’s normally over 250 steps from my office to my car (3 flights of steps, out of the building, across parking lot etc). Today I was parked a little closer and I was about 2 miles from home when the 10 minute warning told me a I needed 4 more steps. I sped up and was prepared to leap from the car at home and get my 4 steps. Well, as a I was turning the steering wheel to get in the garage, my 4 steps registered! All is well.
You guys and your Fitbits. I am really trying not to obsess over mine and this is not helping!
I had the nicest surprise in my mailbox yesterday from one of the best, more supportive people I know - MOWC. I am the proud recipient of a beautiful wrist wrap which assures me “you got this!” I finally feel like I do.
Easy three miles this morning and some pup walking. No Pilates yesterday, working with my trainer Friday and then a hiatus until post race which I am kind of sad about because I love Pilates! I signed up for a “holiday challenge” with “Ask Coach Jenny” from Runner’s World that starts November 1st. $15, an easy inexpensive way to keep myself accountable and active instead of turning into a couch potato like I’m sure I’ll want to!
Happy to help! You have inspired all of us so much!
I sort of have a different attitude towards my FitBit than I do about my other fitness activities. I don’t know if I can explain it, but it’s sort of a game and I laugh about it. I don’t beat myself up or get wound up about it, but I try to keep it fun and funny- sort of like a “beat the clock” type thing. If it wins, there’s always another hour! I view it more like a toy than a means to fitness and health, but I DO think there are definite benefits and it gets me off my butt.
