Diet/Exercise/Health/Wellness Support Thread

Long day. Meetings, trainings, car driving. 3 hours I didn’t meet my 250. Some days are like that! Did get my steps and a cardio/strength training class in. On a scale of 1-10 of nutrition probably about a 4 - a good for me breakfast, but lunch was Costco samples as I ran in to buy Halloween goodies, then there was the stop at the special cookie store because I was in the right town…some pasta for dinner but a reasonable amount with some snap peas on the side. Maybe tomorrow will be better!

Yoga was all I had time for today. Had a 4-hour car trip. Strength training tomorrow.

Good luck Sabaray.

4.5 miles on the trails yesterday. It was very muddy and wet so will try a different place today. Hope to get
5 miles in if the weather cooperates.

Good luck sabaray!!!

That sounds like an amazing race sabaray! I love the idea of ending at the Iwo Jima memorial.

10 days to NYC marathon (my first). So me and PlantMom will both be in our respective corrals Sunday morning Nov 6. I’ll be thinking of you, PM!

Wow, that’s so cool @Classof2015 ! Didn’t realize you were running NYC! Can’t wait to hear about all these big races!

The thought of doing indoor wattage cycling training last night was more than I could bear. I’ve got to get outside on the bike. This weekend is supposed to be warm and sunny so hopefully I’ll have two days of riding. To console myself last night, I did 5 sets of front barbell squats and 5 sets of deadlifts. Great whole body exercises. Haven’t done them in a while. Feeling it a bit this morning, lol. For those looking to build usable, functional strength, barbell squats and deadlifts are hard to beat. Can’t wait to get my new power rack so I can really start playing with the squats.

You got this sabaray! You will have tons of good karma from us!

I’ve missed that you are running the NYC marathon @Classof2015, have fun! Is @PlantMom doing it also?

Off to run this morning, then going to bil’s cottage for the weekend. The good news is that sil loves to go on long walks, which will somewhat mitigate all the food! The weather is getting better and they say it will be peak fall color. S and fiancé will be joining us. They are coming up to do some wedding planning.

^^^Sounds beautiful.

Those of us in climates that DON’T stay nice year around really need to savor these days we can get outside and enjoy it!

@abasket – thanks! I’m a mixture of excited and nervous. For all us moms, here’s my mindset: labor and delivery was 5 hours. How bad can it be?

@deb22 – appreciate the good wishes! PlantMom is doing a very fun sounding half marathon at Disney World. I love the idea of running through the Magic Kingdom – so many happy memories of going there with the kids.

Sabaray- Look around while you are running and take it all in. Sunday is YOUR day! My daughter’s picture with the female Marine hanging the finisher medal around her neck in 2012 came up on my facebook page this morning and it made me think of how happy you will be when the Marine puts that medal on you!

I think I found MnK’s next bike:

Wow is that intriguing. Very curious about how the drivetrain works. 26 lbs for a road bike is very heavy by today’s standards though, where high end carbon fiber road bikes are weighing in at 15 lbs or less. Still, it’s amazingly innovative.

I am in LOVE with my new workout gear! They make me want to go to the gym everyday.

I got a couple of compressions shorts, tanks and additionally cut up some tees I never wear (Thanks, college!). Compressions shorts are so comfy and there’s no riding up! I love you, leggings, but I think I’m going to bare some leg while the weather is good.

Hey Niquii77 your gear sounds great! I love compression shorts - -no chafing! What brand did you buy or is it a mix?

I’m going to share a few things from my son’s Miami triathlon- mainly to remind us how even the experienced, most accomplished athletes can screw up. So- remember this when you beat yourself up for going out too fast, too slow, wrong nutrition, wrong shoes etc.

He was wearing a new skin suit (not wetsuit, but these swim skins that make them more hydrodynamic) and when he got to transition 1 (swim to bike) he couldn’t get it off! He lost over a minute, which there alone cost him third place.

His bottle cage on his bike (only had one for this race) broke half off and he lost his nutrition right at the start of the bike. He had no nutrition drink or even water. He missed the 20 mile aid station since he forgot to look where it was going to be.

He was trying to pass the female pros who all started ahead of him and were riding much slower than he was…ALL the pros at once, basically. To do this, he sat out to the left and didn’t come back over to the right in time. Since he was passing the pros, there was a course marshall with them and he got the 5 minute penalty for blocking. Upside of that was he was given a water bottle in the penalty tent.

He doesn’t like to lose time by putting on socks for the run and he runs without them. Hadn’t tried that in his new Hoka Tracers, and knows Hokas don’t tend to do well without socks. He Snapchatted me a picture of his blistered, bloody feet. Lovely.

Part that wasn’t his fault- they split his age group into two waves since it is so big. He was in the first wave, so he had no idea how he was doing against the guys who started behind him. It’s chip timed. So- the first guy (who he wasn’t going to beat) was in his wave, but he didn’t know about the two behind him. That’s really a bad system for the top competitors. I don’t know what the answer is.

So- just a little aside on the errors…

I found mainly like random brands as I went to a mix of Ross type stores on a quest for Tupperware. (See how that turned out!) Brands like Danskin, Vogo, and I’m not sure what the other ones are at the moment.

Sounds like you have good gear, Niquii! That makes it more fun, for sure.

MOWC – he sounds like a very dedicated athlete (apple…tree!). His poor bloody feet! Very interesting how many things can go wrong or not go as planned even with a lot of training and prep.

Live and learn they say! Best laid plans!

Very interesting MOWC! It sounds like everything that could go wrong did. Hope he’s not beating himself up.

I’m glad he knew why he got the penalty, now he knows what not to do. It does sound like a crazy set up though. 2 waves for his age group? And I guess I’m somewhat surprised that the women pros were that much slower that he passed them on the bike. He must have been in the wave behind the women pros?
