Diet/Exercise/Health/Wellness Support Thread

I think those walks would be really hard! I’ll support you, too.

3.5 miles this morning and I felt not so good. I’m wondering- too much candy? A little dehydrated?

Does anyone eat Noosa yogurt? I think it’s really good, but I’m wondering if it is a little sugary. The containers are tiny. In fact, my daughter did a funny Snapchat about it along the lines of having to eat 2 of them after her run. I’ve started having one for my evening snack. It seems healthier than cookies or something…

I’m a Noosa freak - in fact, this morning on Twitter there was a promoted tweet for Noosa to sign up for a free container! You can send a friend a coupon for a free container - my family was frantically sending coupons onto each other!

It may be a little sweet, but I really enjoy the texture and flavoring. As I’ve said before I take one 8 oz container and make 4 servings out of it by using it as a topping for fruit and nuts. As part of breakfast today I had 1/4 c. or so of unfrozen cherries with a good sprinkling of sliced almonds and that nice dollop of coconut noosa. It’s just enough for me.

Have you tried any of the flavors w/spice? Blackberry and Serrano Pepper…is YUM later in the day -just a tad savory!

I still love my Stonyfield plain yogurt. But for a already flavored yogurt, Noosa is my go-to. I’m ok if it has some sugar - I’m not eating it in large quantities and it meets my flavor and texture preferences.

See if the link above works for the free Noosa - I’m still not sure how we actually get the free container - I’m wondering if they will email it later.

Walking yesterday–3 mi and last yoga for my challenge. I helped hand out 800 pieces of candy last night! I live in a small town in MA–we have no sidewalks so kids go to the town common to trick or treat.

People donate candy and take it to town hall for people who luve around the town center to hand out. My friend lives on the Common so I went to help her. It was non-stop for 2 hours. Kids were great. Lots if Harry Potter and superhero costumes. My favorites were a group that went as the Schuyler sisters ( from Hamilton) and 2 guys in haz-mat gear who were Walter and Jesse from Breaking Bad!

@fallgirl–I did the Avon walk (two times) when it was 60 miles. Now, I do a local walk where I walk one leg (13 miles). You are right–fundraising is harder than walking! You can do it. I will support you–let us know when it is time.

Sitting here eating 1 mini Milky Way + 1 mini Snickers. I never eat this stuff… except for the day… week… well, sometimes for the entire month of November.

Thanks abasket. I’m going to figure out the link. Heading over to Twitter now, too. We’ve only gotten the 4 ounce sizes so far. The ones with spice sound fantastic! I would have to make myself not eat the whole 8 ounces, though.

I hate that when you post a twitter or pinterest link that it lists all the graphics on here! Please don’t slap my hand admin!!! I forget that it does that!

re: Sabaray’s post about training in the heat – apparently it’s the combined heat + humidity (so if those 2 numbers are over 150, most of us would struggle exercising in that heat). I know we did some long runs in the summer when it was 85 degrees and 80% humidity and I was finding it very tough.

I did a 3.1 mile run last night and the same again this morning. The hotel is near a really nice trail and it is perfect for running. I was a little nervous about running this morning at 5:30 am in the dark, but the hotel manager assured me that it’s a very safe trail. It was fine, I only saw one biker the whole time I was out this morning.

I agree with sabaray that it is very helpful to hear about the times it didn’t go so well for the experienced folks, like WC’s Ironman earlier this year and MNK’s rides that he struggled with the heat. No matter how hard you prep, sometimes it just isn’t meant to be.

sabaray - oh my goodness, I would have exploded if my mom had said something about “only” having 5 miles to go! I’m sure she meant well, but clearly she has no idea what the last 5 miles of a marathon are like. I think there is something to what MNK said about at some point your body just can’t process the hydration. It sounded as if you did everything right with all your hydrating and taking liquids and Nuun, Gatorade, etc along the way but your body just couldn’t keep up. I am so glad that you are OK. I hope that you’re able to find races that aren’t likely to have those crazy temperatures because I think it’s really really hard to train in the heat and do long runs when it is so hot.

Classof2015 - are you getting excited for Sunday?

PlantMom - how about you, are you ready for your Disney half?

FallGirl - I can relate to your comments about being more concerned about the fundraising than the walking. When we did our RAGNAR for Back on My Feet, the fundraising was a lot harder than I had expected. It’s just really hard to ask people for money. But let me know when your fundraising starts, I would be happy to support you.

Meetings all day today and then a late flight home. I may work from home tomorrow as I won’t get in until after midnight.

C3Baker – yes, getting psyched! It’s been really good for me to hear about things not turning out as you expected. I know if I just can’t run anymore, I should stop and get help. Finishing is nice; health is everything.

A very helpful article (to me) on the differences between all the “creams” from half and half to heavy whipping cream - and why you should or shouldn’t use some for different things. For instance, I have tried to use half and half before in a creamed soup (instead of heavy cream) - apparently a no-no because it can curdle!

For those of us who do bake/cook and/or are also concerned about fat/calories, etc.:

Good morning all - it looks like a have a job - phew. It is a great opportunity with someone I used to work with, just need to iron out the details. And I have dropped a few pounds, for no known reason, after going up 3-4 pounds for several weeks for no known reason. So life is good!

I did end up joining the gym and have been doing body pump (weights) and mat pilates, as well as using some of the machines. I go after work & really enjoy the transition time between work & home.

How are you feeling today Sabaray?

Congratulations, Gertrude! Glad the job search was fruitful.

Yay Gertrude!

I think I’m ready, C3B. I don’t know… I felt kind of slow and pokey on this morning’s 3 mile run; I’m nervous about how my body will take to running this distance after getting up so early and not getting enough sleep; I’m worried about getting the right pace, especially doing regular rest (walk/slow run) intervals. I question my training, and if I’ve run enough miles. Ugh, nerves I think! On the bright side, we’re supposed to have a little cool are blow through on Sunday morning (low of 58). I’m hoping for every degree of relief from the warmth. Our highs have been in the upper 80’s, lows only at about 70. Too warm!

You have run plenty of miles. You can generally complete a race of double your longest training run. You’ve run 13! You will be fine. I would be careful not to get stuck behind straight out walkers and have to weave a lot. Stay to the right for your walk breaks. See how you are feeling at 9 or 10 and pick it up a little if you want. You will want to feel pretty comfortable- not easy peazy- but comfortable enough- at 7-8 miles. ( I never do, by the way)

Congrats Gertrude.

When I get my fundraising page up I’ll let you all know.

Gave out all 108 full size Hershey bars in one hour. But if anyone had shown up at my house as the Schuyler sisters or any other Hamilton characters I would have handed them every candy bar I had right then.

Fallgirl, my brother and his kids carved their pumpkin as the image on the Hamilton playbill (the star and figure).

Congrats on the job - indeed a relief!

Wouldn’t it be great if races could be at each of our OWN perfect times?! Those very, very early times are KILLERS! Sometimes I think there is something to those evening runs! Not too early that’s for sure!

No Hamilkids at my house last night. I was bummed.

November 1st, 80 degrees, running in tshirt and shorts and sweating like the 4th of July! - not the easiest run but NOT going to complain!

I missed 2 hours of my 250 steps. One was a lunch which lasted over an hour and the other was a call that ended at 3:58. I shot out of my office and walked as fast as I could, but I didn’t make it. Oh well.

Finished October with 163.9 miles. I wish I had done one more 1/10.
