Shockingly, I’ve never heard of JackRabbit! I’ll check it out!

Me too. More shopping options!

I feel like they’re a new presence in NYC. They organized the group run with Nike (last 10 miles of the marathon route) that I did before the race. Great rewards program too – got $20 off a foam roller.

I guess I’m the lone voice of dissent on JackRabbit. I ordered a pair of shoes from them last month because the model I have worn for a long time now is being replaced and I needed a new pair. I didn’t want to make any changes so close to the marathon. I ordered from JackRabbit since they still had the old model available and it was a good price. (I wear the Brooks Dyad 8 and they aren’t available locally anymore, only the Dyad 9). I ordered an 8 Wide and the packing slip clearly said that, but they shipped an 8 Medium. Not a huge deal because stuff happens - it was only a real problem because it was only two weeks until the marathon and my current shoes had 350 miles on them and I didn’t have a lot of time to break in a new pair. Anyway, I was able to return the incorrect shoes but I was miffed that they wouldn’t refund the shipping charges. They didn’t have the 8W in stock but fortunately I got them from 6pm in time to get a few runs in before the marathon.

So just beware that if there are issues with anything you order online, you are unlikely to get the shipping charges refunded. This is not unusual for a regular return but I don’t like the policy when it applies to having to return something that was not what I ordered.

I would have raised holy he!! about the shipping charges since it was their mistake! I am really happy with RoadrunnerSports and upgraded my VIP membership just recently to whatever the next level is. I can almost always find an additional discount code online or in my email on top of my VIP discount. I feel like I’m paying less for shoes than I did 3 years ago. I buy a lot of shoes. I only get about 200 miles (slightly more on Hokas) on a pair and I like to have a variety! There isn’t much Roadrunner doesn’t have. I order for my son, too.

I’ve ordered things from Jack Rabbit and returned to my local store. But if they shipped me the wrong thing I would expect them to pay for the return shipping

That’s super annoying, C3Baker. I’d be yelping up a storm if that happened.

Hi all! Well, it was quite a weekend in Las Vegas. Prepping for an evening race is just different. Race morning, despite my intentions to eat sparingly, we pigged out at a buffet. That part ended up being OK - no digestive or blood sugar issues during the race. But we also did some walking around. My feet were already sore by the time the race started & they were in serious pain & throbbing by about mile 6. For the run-through wedding, we had about 45 minutes to make it to the 3 mile point of the race - DH (non-runner) made a heroic effort & we made it with a minute to spare. We renewed our vows with about 100 other couples, then I ran off to finish the race. Final count of Elvis sightings - somewhere around 12, including one who won the marathon & set a Guinness record for fastest marathon in an Elvis costume. It was really a ton of fun to run down the strip at night, all lit up.

We drove home today, stopping for lunch midway with @fireandrain - that was a treat!

Congrats to the renewlywed!

What a fun weekend Gertrude! Sounds tough on the feet though! So cool you got to meet up with fireandrain!

Gertrude – that sounds like so much fun! Congrats to you and Mr. McFuzz!

Yay, Gertrude! I did that race in 2010 in the daytime! So fun that you got to renew your vows during the race. One of my good friends from here ran the full so he could check off Nevada from his 50 state quest. He’s an older, slower runner, and he got slightly off course a couple of times! He made it , though.

It is hard to figure out the eating for an evening race.

Congrats on both counts Gertrude!

Can’t beat running, wedding vows, seeing a cc friend and Elvis sightings!

Glad it was a good trip, gertrude.

Gertrude, I am so impressed with Mr. McFuzz - just sounds awesome! He sounds like a keeper.

Headed to the gym this morning for what was termed a “fat blaster” workout from my holiday challenge. Walk 3 minutes, easy run for 5 minutes, then intervals of 60 seconds hard and 90 seconds recovery for 20 minutes followed by slow run/walk to cool down. Done in 30 minutes.

Hope everyone has a good day. I’m a little stressed at work - end of the year is no fun and I am a department of one most of the time. Oh well - that’s not going to change sitting here! Time to walk the pups!

Sabaray, I like your fat buster. I’m going to write that down in notes on my phone so I remember. 30 minutes is often all I have to give so it’s a good one!

And “high five” to us “department of one” folks - I am also - sometimes it’s nice, sometimes it’s lonely/stressful!

Today was day 500 of my running streak, which is a big number. My longest streak was 960 days. I have averaged 5 miles a day for the 500 days. This year I have averaged about 5.1-5.2 miles. The biggest thing is that I have not been injured or too sick to run in 500 days. For that I am grateful. Streaking is not an optimal training method, but it works for me and helps keep me sane and keeps me consistent.

Way to go Gertrude! Ands congrats to you, MOWC.

We’re finally back in our urban territory. Took the pup for a much needed walk through the Harvard campus. My “gait” was marginally better than a couple of days ago, but not normal, by any means. I’m ready to call a sports doc here to see if I can get an appointment, but now H is talking about changing Health Insurance since the plan we have was discontinued by Harvard Pilgrim. Their new plan which is most similar costs over 40% more than we’ve been paying! Gr-r-r-r-r!!

I don’t know which is more impressive - the streak of 500 days or the average of over 5 miles a day - 5 MILES! A Day! Really, that’s quite an accomplishment!

Here’s to another 500!! (raising glass of water!!!)

I had to cut yesterday’s planned 5 mile run short and only did 3.8. It is so stupid - on Saturday I had a great 10 mile run. Then while I was at the Purdue football game in the afternoon (a disaster…) I was going down the steps in the stadium carrying 2 jumbo drinks and a large tub of popcorn and twisted my knee going down one of the steep steps. It seemed OK afterwards but occasionally would hurt when walking. Last night it was definitely hurting while I was running so I decided I better not push things. Today it is not too bad, but noticeable when walking and pretty painful when going down stairs. Arrgghh! This is annoying! Tonight is running club and I will likely just do a very short run. There’s no elevation on the route tonight so that shouldn’t aggravate anything. It’s probably all because I was having Diet Coke and popcorn for lunch after doing that 10 mile run - the Nutrition Gods were trying to tell me something… Oh well, at least this is all after the marathon and not during training.

Gertrude - your race sounded awesomely fun! I think it must be hard to figure out what/when to eat for an evening half marathon. I’m glad you were able to get it done even with the sore, tired feet. Renewing your vows sounded like fun and how cool to see those Elvi! (is that the correct plural form of Elvis?)

MOWC - congrats on your streak! In addition to the sheer mental fortitude to maintain that kind of a streak, I think it is fabulous that you have been healthy enough to do it so many days in a row! I am looking forward to you busting your previous streak and hitting 1000. And I agree with abasket that it is really amazing that your average is over 5 miles per day. You are incredible!

CBBBlinker - I’m really sorry that your gait is still bothering you so much. It does sound as if it’s time to see a doctor. Good luck with the insurance plans - no fun there at all!
