That’s a nice feature of Strava, MOWC - I have yet to use it but there are times it would have come in handy.
It is dry and mostly calm here now but the winds are supposed to pick up later today again. We have a fire advisory - no outdoor burning! I hope people are listening.
Michael, isn’t the Philly marathon today? I feel badly for those folks!
Rest day for me today - I did not get much done yesterday. Played with the pups and talked my daughter through preparations for her “friendsgiving” gathering. She didn’t need much help but it was still nice to feel needed.
Oh God! It IS Philly Marathon day! It’s cold but beautiful here for Monkey. I’m heading over to do a 4 mile run and then put on All The Clothes and great runners at the finish line with wooden medals, Silly Pint beer glasses and cheers.
Took my test run this AM - 39 degrees and windy. Did well wearing a long sleeve T and my new jacket. I only have capri length running pants, but I was fine. I will need to invest in longer tights for colder weather. Also I was pleased with my run, much better than last Sunday. Only walking and yoga until Thursday.
Mr. Sabaray and I headed over the mountain today - went to Lulu and picked up the Restless pullover and Outrun 1/2 zip. My cold weather running wardrobe has seen better days and I like having options. I had looked at the pullover a few weeks ago and immediately regretted not getting it at the time. They only have it in white online now - mine is heathered black; the 1/2 zip heathered white/heathered black pattern. Both very comfy and warm.
Love both of those! I could wear that Restless pullover to work under a blazer or cardigan. I wore the puff pullover from a few years ago (bright yellow) on my run this morning. It wasn’t really really cold (35) but I didn’t want to feel chilly. I love the underarm vents.
Monkey was a success. It was a slow Monkey this year with only 2 runners under 3 hours. It was sunny and pretty and I was fine at the finish line without tons of layers (I had a few).
I’ll admit to doing a little FItbit dance tonight to get my last 1200 steps or so. I’m not proud of myself. Drove down to pick up D2 from school to be home for Thanksgiving week so 5 hours of driving, not stepping! Thank goodness for the three pup walks today.
Raked what I hope the last leaves that the neighbor’s trees dumped on us! Got a headstart on my Thanksgiving cooking. Not much, but at least something.
Back home after four weeks on the road. While I got plenty of steps and cardio, I haven’t done strength training in a long time. Granted, I pulled a muscle in my side just before leaving which would have sidelined me for most of this time anyway. The plan is to hit the weights tomorrow. Also need to start yoga again.
I did a lot of solo hiking last week. My first hiking experience was in my 20s, and I always had trouble going uphill, having to stop frequently to catch my breath. That is no longer the case. A lot of the hikes involved ascents, and I rarely had to stop. All that running and cardio has definitely paid off – in some ways I am in better shape now than I was 30 years ago.
Now, my diet the last month has been horrible. I need to rediscover vegetables and fruit, and lay off all the white and processed stuff.
Glad you enjoyed the hiking, fireandrain - sounds like a much needed trip.
It is cold here. Why can’t there be a happy medium? Low twenties this morning…windy…hello dreadmill. 6 boring miles but it’s done. Worked on keeping my HR moderate the first 30 minutes, then bumped up the pace every five minutes. Listened to Hamilton instead of watching/listening to the news. Happy Monday.
Sounds like a good trip, fireandrain. Welcome home!
It is really cold here, too. I did a couple of miles on the dreadmill this morning. I was having some stomach issues overnight and didn’t, um, trust running around my neighborhood… Sounds like you did a good treadmill workout, sabaray! I have been eating horribly with all the Monkey activities- after my own 4 mile run yesterday I was grazing at the potluck awaiting the finishers and ate things like potato chips, brownies and pie for breakfast. Lovely. We leave for Santa Fe in the morning, so there won’t be any fast improvement.
Stress level critical this week. The daily headlines make me hyperventilate. 23 people coming for Thanksgiving. Balancing two jobs. Aargh. Breathe, run, breathe.
Wow Gertrude – that is a lot of stress. Glad you have a healthy outlook on how to manage it. I started meditating about a year ago and when I remember to do it, it really helps. Hang in there!
3.7 miles of my run/walk this morning. Run keeper tells me it’s been 47 days since I’ve done any running. Too long!! I was also on the treadmill at the gym. I don’t mind it all that much; I listen to podcasts – especially like the TED Radio Hour ones from NPR. So now I’ll see how I feel in the morning. I’ve hit my 10K steps, but will still take the pup out this afternoon.
I can honestly say I’ve never had to cook an entire Thanksgiving dinner – I (now we) have always been hosted by someone else. I bring my fear share of sides and desserts, and H always gets the wine, but I haven’t had to clean the house, set the table, AND do a lot of cooking. I’m pretty OK with that …
I had to brush snow off my car this morning – and Friday we were out in our shirtsleeves washing windows. Crazy!!
I don’t really cook, but I make a cranberry salad. This year we are going to Santa Fe and my daughter has found a good restaurant for us. I normally don’t like to go to restaurants on Thanksgiving but…Santa Fe.
We always have a big crowd at Thanksgiving, but usually some branch of the family doesn’t come so we end up at 16 or 18 or so. This year, EVERYONE is coming. It’ll be fun once we get going & it will be good to talk to everyone, but the planning, cooking, cleaning etc can be overwhelming. I have to admit, I’ve been thinking about how to wriggle out of this in the future. We’ve done it for close to 20 years. I dread it every year, then love it during & after each successful event. Maybe sort of like miles 8-12 of a half marathon!
Probably not more than 10 days ago I was bundled up to go out and run as dusk because it was so chilly, about 50! 50! How quick we miss it! 32 today - at least no wind! Trying to sneak in whatever I can (including a 1.5 mile fast walk on the track at my work fitness center mid afternoon to combat the eating fest (and feast) that will surely occur later this week - we’re celebrating a birthday with dinner and cake one day and Turkey Day the next!
