Diet/Exercise/Health/Wellness Support Thread

Sending healing mojo to all on the injured list–MOWC and family, OhioP, OP’s son, and BB. Hang-in there.

Started my stair training–did 15 minutes on the stair ladder at the gym (one at my gym is called a Jacob’s ladder stairway today at the gym. (It killed me.) Plus worked out with my trainer before. I was going to tackle the big hill near my house, but we had 3 inches of snow this am and later on it was icy. Might try to get out there tomorrow.

Very long travel day today. I thought I could do some walking during a 3-hour layover, but then the flight was late plus other complications- so that didn’t happen.

Feel better soon, MoWC and Ohio!

Sending out the healing thoughts to MOWC, ohio, PlantMom, BB and anyone else who needs them. No fun being sick and an extra bummer when you are a person who takes fitness seriously.

Sending the healing mojo to all in need.

Since Saturday my main exercise has been going out to eat! Yeah, good/not good. Book Club holiday party, dinner w/ D and fiance after a holiday show, dinner with our condo neighbors … Tonight we’ll be in Stowe, VT with my father and, you guessed it, going out to eat. Then a big annual Christmas gathering on Saturday night, followed by a 2 night trip to NYC. The scale is NOT my friend.

I am really trying hard not to overeat - I’ve been waking up in the middle of the night with heartburn or something - not sure, but it’s hard to get back to sleep.

Ran from home this morning - a bit over 5 miles. Need to take advantage of good weather when it happens and this weekend is looking lousy. I’m trying to complete all of these silly challenges - one from Brooks, my challenge goal, my 2016 goal…stupid, but it keeps me on track.

CBB, I’d like to be you! Sounds fun. I had some beef tenderloin in the freezer so prepared that for dinner last night along with some creamer potatoes and salad of greens, apple, dried cranberries, pecans, blue cheese and balsamic vinaigrette. Oh, and a glass of red wine…for heart health, of course!

ohiopublic – my son had Osgood Schlatter too when he was a catcher. A coach gave him stretching exercises to do, which helped. Eventually he ended up playing other positions. You look at old catchers from professional baseball – they can barely walk. Hope your son heals completely from surgery.

That sounds so good, sabaray! Catchers- that’s what is so incredible about former Phillie Carlos Ruiz (Chooch)- his longevity.

Thanks, everyone. I don’t seem to have this nearly as bad as my husband did. My fever is down and I’m just tired and weak. I think I’ll be able to do my streak mile on the treadmill later today. Fortunately, it was a light day of meetings at work. Just have one conference call I need to do this afternoon (from home). It’s gloomy and rainy outside…

Hi all - just popping in to say hi. I’m crazy busy & kind of stressed from balancing two jobs (one ending, one beginning) & all the holiday stuff. This will all be over by Jan. 6 when the old job finally limps to an end. I’ve got a half marathon this Sunday - this is the one I did last year as my first ever half. I would love to run this one at least a smidge faster just to show a little progress for the year! Keeping good thoughts for everyone to be healthy & injury free!

Good to “see” you Gertrude! I’d be stressed too but glad to hear that all is well. Two jobs sounds like a good problem to have.

I’m wondering, does anyone here run with a sweatband, and have a type they recommend? I have noticed lately that when I run, I seem to be sweating from my head profusely. My body has barely any sweat, and it’s not like I’m running that fast, but my hair is drenched. This is annoying and kind of new for me. Was thinking that maybe this would help my head from being all wet, but then again, maybe I’m just going to have to put up with it!

Hi Gertrude! Sounds like a lot of stress. Glad you popped in. Good luck with the half.

The best part of being home sick is…cats! Dogs, too, but they aren’t on the bed.

busdriver, I usually wear a cap - I know a lot of women like Bondi bands and several in my running group wear them . They have fun prints, etc. and seem to hold up well.

Hey Gertrude – good luck on Sunday! May your feet be speedy and your hamstrings loose!

Hi Gertrude! Hang in there! January 6 is less than a month away.

Hope all who have been hit by the nasty bugs are on the mend.

The funny thing about me is that I feel fine except the one dang area of my body. If I tune out the pain, I can do my daily activities pretty much like I have always done them, except running and falling asleep.

Daily “pain” just isn’t ever good. Healing wishes to those temporarily under the weather as well as those nursing longer conditions!

I wear a headband almost always - for sweat as well as just to keep all hair out of my face. I rotate between thin NorthFace ones that just feel good and several Lululemon ones that seem to do a pretty good job of absorbing the sweat - and they have been washed a million times and look as good as new. I have short hair but absolutely want no hair on my face or in front of my ears when exercising.

Thanks, sabaray! I’ll check out those Bondi bands.

I just buy the cheap 5 pack headbands from the drugstore.

I hate headbands, so I either wear a cap with a terrycloth headband built in (when the weather calls for a cap or hat) or a little absorbent terrycloth cuff for wiping sweat on as needed basis.

I am getting up from my bed-office every hour to do my 250 steps!

The streak lives on. 1.2 slow miles. I thought it would feel easy at a very slow pace. It did not. Worth it, though.
